Haven't seen skinless chicken breasts at Coles this cheap ever. Bloke at the counter said it's a weekly special so not sure if just this store, Coles Camberwell or every Coles.

Great pickup - thanks OP
cheap proteins
Can someone please confirm NSW coles?
Thanks
Didn't see them on sales in NSW
Can confirm it's $9/kg @ Fairfield
Thanks, 2165!!!!
Did you ask if they are close to use by date? I'd be freezing these if not cooking them tonight.
Usually if they are trying to clear out stock, it will say CLEARANCE rather than SPECIAL. SPECIAL is usually statewide or national whereas CLEARANCE is generally per store. Of course, they could have put the wrong tag out so who knows.
They could have run out of Clearance tickets. They may not want us to know that they are short dated. Who knows.
My point is I wouldn't mess around with chicken. Play it safe.
Love breasts
amen.
Hope some of you lot get to grab these breasts - it will probably be your only chance.
what does chicken breast usually cost?Edit:
looked at the pic… sorrywinner winner chicken dinner
I prefer Free Range any any product, but unfortunately, the more an animal has had restrictive movement, I find the meat is softer. Tortured animals taste better. :(
How could you be so cruel? Making chickens go out and scratch around for food when their mates are lying in bed all day getting fed. All just so you can do a bit of virtue signalling. How selfish!
Chicken should have their freedom to choose the cage or range.
Form a Poultry Union? Chicken PU?
next time use a meat tenderiser.
My hand?
Don't know what happen to your chicken but free range animal (meat or egg) usually taste better. Maybe the one you tried is a bit older than non-free range one.
Try it, get one Free Range Chicken and one cheap ass Caged Chicken. You'll find the lack of movement prevented the muscles from developing and from becoming firmer, while the overfeeding leads to more fat and therefore more favour.
Doing the right thing isn't always easy.
Agree with fabman sadly. I'm against caging any animals (that includes leaving dogs in confided backyards or fish in tanks) btw.
But free chickens meat is generally tougher and gamier than caged ones.
Depends on your preference. You can get free ranged ones but they cost more generally.
I personally don't like the taste of free ranged ones v caged… but perhaps i should turn vegetarian.
Poor chickens.
umm..probably all the unhealthy fat and crap keeps getting collected. Exercise releases toxins from the body.
"Exercise releases toxins from the body." What are you basing that on?
There is unhealthy fat on a chicken and healthy fat? Can you describe the differences please?
I dunno man, I wouldn't even eat sick or wilted veggies, not going to eat sick chicken, pork or beef either. Perhaps you're right but I'd prefer firm meat instead.
Hmmm, I sniff food and if it doesn't stink, I'll eat it. Different strokes I guess.
We used to do this at woolworths all the time, clear the old product or product that was frozen or product where we have overstock and we'd clear it with a special ticket, rather than a clearance ticket.
People tend to get funny if their chicken is a product that is reduced to clear. :PDoes anyone know how RSPCA compares to lilydale free range in terms of chook living conditions?
RSPCA makes sure that every homeless chook goes to a good kitchen. ;)
Lilydale are FREPA audited so what you really want is a comparison of FREPA and RSCPA standards. Take each set of standards with a grain of chicken salt of course.
This site has a table which is easy to make sense of compared to going through each organisation's website: http://www.makeitpossible.com/guides/chicken-meat-labels.php
Edit: ah, that link actually paints both sets of standards in a bad light. FREPA (Lilydale) actually looks really good though.

And to really scare the Hansonites…. all Lilydale chicken is halal certified.

anyone found this in other VIC stores?
Yup all vic stores
Its a clearance line, as haven't seen it anywhere else.
RSPCA Chicken Breasts
Do PETA have their own range too?
Yeah, when you open the packet it explodes red paint all over you and a voice recording of someone calling you a monster plays.
same price at rainbow meats (chicken breast skin on - not sure what brand lol)

Good spotting, Coles may be price matching the local Rainbow Meats store
Just be careful with the freshness of the chicken…
The cheap chicken breast seems to just taste worse. I know free range costs more, but it's not so terrifyingly big and tastes better.
Not at Melville wa Coles. $10 in the case, $9 in prepackaged. 😪
Guess VIC only :/
Did RSPCA adopt the chickens first then butcher them for quality and control??
I didn't even know the RSPCA had their own abattoir operation.
Just rang up, the special's on "at all Coles", not sure if that's VIC Only or aus wide.
Can't find it available at any of the inner Melbourne stores I've checked.
Yep I just checked at South Melbourne Coles and they had it for $9 per kg. :(
$8.50/kg in Brunswick, VIC.
That's value!
