Refurbished laptop but comes with 12 months local warranty. Good specs with incredibly low price. Original price $899 which is already reduced to $610.95 plus use coupon code C20SHOP to bring the price further down to $488.
In my opinion it only needs a ram upgrade. Another 4gb stick will do the job. I own one of these models and can confirm that existing 4gb ram is soldered on board and it has one spare ram slot for up-gradation.

In my opinion it only needs a ram upgrade.

My 2c but the conversion from a 1TB 5400RPM HDD to an SSD would make the most pronounced and significant and value-for-money upgrade. If you're still using spinning rust OP; I'd recommend upgrading that too.

Having more RAM does help, but that's an upgrade I'd do if I notice constant disk% usage (which is a sign that you're low on RAM and you keep hitting the pagefile on disk).

That aside — 720p display and kind of lackluster KB, it's a pedestrian laptop on par with Inspiron 3000 / HP 250 series.

    • how does (For the newbie) one monitor or see what constant disk % usage is, and therefore if insufficient memory?

What's a standard/ok range for disk % usage in terms of pagefil usage?

      • there is a simple monitoring tool in your Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL), and then click the "Performance" tab. Apart from the simple graphs, you can open a more detailed view using "Resource monitor".

for experts, and system administrators there is the Performance Monitor or Perfmon
        https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2008.08.pulse.as…

to find out if you need more RAM, reboot your computer, and run the 'worst case scenario' by opening all the apps you could possibly one by one, while keeping an eye on how much additional RAM is utilized.

In my scenario you can see I have plenty of RAM, and opening up about 15 different programs and a 64-bit browser with about 60(!) active tabs I'm hitting

        5.2GB Physical memory used
        6.6GB Phys memory Available
The paged pool consists of virtual memory that can be paged in and out of the system — it's basically the pagefile located on C:\ drive. As long as you have enough for all the programs you're using, Windows doesn't need to rely on constantly fetching data from your slower hard disks.

If all I had available was 2GB of memory, the memory pools would have to swell up several gigabytes to account for the lack of RAM and that would account for higher disk activity.

it's the HD screen that kills it for me ….. you can upgrade to an ssd but can't change the screen from HD to FHD.

once you had FHD on a laptop it's hard to go back , got spoiled with the lenovo deal over christmas .

Be better off with something new at that price, with a full HD screen …

    Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch Full HD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U Processor 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black
    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575-33BM-15-6-Inch-Processor-…
    which is USD$350

Then add 4GB RAM for USD$36
    Ballistix Sport LT 4GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) SODIMM 260-Pin - BLS4G4S240FSD (Gray)

AUD$568 delivered (with our poor exchange rate vs USD, and Amazon's crappy currency conversion)

    • But the graphics card is better on the Vivobook.

      • Actually the GT920m and Intel HD620 are within 2% of each other, the 920m has dedicated RAM so will help if you don't upgrade the 4GB system RAM, but will also consume a lot more power than the integrated HD620.
