4 Reviews is hardly enough to form a balanced judgement.

      Here's 11,000 reviews:

I own a set and other than having to buy batteries, it works great!

      • Cool!
Thanks for the link and your review on the cam :)

      • I have a set and can confirm that it is garbage. Apart from the batteries being chewed up like candy, the quality control on assembly must be non existent. I have had every single camera (bought the 3 pack) replaced multiple times. They replace them quickly enough, but it's annoying that I have to send them back in so often. Postage costs for failed cameras sent back in for replacement has almost eclipsed the cost of the original system.

If you want a good indication of just how garbage these cameras are in terms of quality, just get on the Arlo forums and look at the amount of people asking the same questions and they all end in.. contact support and get and RMA to send it back for replacement.

Next is dealing with their customer support. The process is painful at best. It once took them over an hour to decide that I needed a camera replaced because they wanted me to basically start from scratch and reassemble the system.

So, concept of the cameras gets a 10/10. Great concept. Execution gets a 5/10. It works "ok". The need for camera resets and base station resets is a little annoying. Quality gets a 1/10. Seriously, why have I had to replace all the cameras already and replaced some of the replacements. It's just garbage.

The only thing I like is that the new 1080p cameras are rechargeable and will add onto the original base station. That being said, the original base station has 2 USB ports that have absolutely nothing to do with the system at all.

So, in a few words, use this system if you can't be arsed putting up wires or can't get power and wires out to an area, but be prepared to have failed cameras, spend a small fortune on batteries and returning camera and be ready to reset the system every other week or so because it just stops recording…

        • The Arlo pros are also 720 like the original, not 1080. The Arlo Q is 1080 but you have to keep that plugged in and is for indoor only.

I am on the side of having had no problems with any of them (I have 4 of the original) - I have never had to reset them or anything after initial set up but experiences can obviously differ (not dissimilar to most tech products)

        • @Fiximol: My mistake, sorry, dont know why i typed 1080 in there. The only benefits the new cameras have is that they have 2 way communication and a rechargeable battery. And even it looks like it isnt a standard battery. Just looks like a square block from what i have seen. Very proprietary looking. Probably to stop people from buying their own rechargeable batteries.

And it just seems as though i got a "friday" unit and keep having the cameras replaced with "monday" units. If you get a good one, you're very lucky and among the very slim minority. Look after it, because when it starts to go wrong, everything will go wrong…

Ninja Edit: I almost forgot to add to the list of rubbish this camera system has is the delay between when motion is detected and when it actually starts recording. Every day the bus goes past and i hear it. get the notification that a video has been uploaded and all it catches is the back end of the bus going out of frame. Same thing when the post man cmoes by. It only catches him going out of frame. People coming to the front door. It will capture them standing at the front door, but not approacing. So before i moved it to allow for this, it would just view the backs of their heads at the door…

        • @pegaxs:

Wow, you've had some extremely bad luck there.

My 2 camera system hasn't experienced any of those issues, except the delayed recording.

I was actually very impressed with the build quality.

I've bought rechargeable batteries so that's not a problem either.

I have never experienced any disconnections, and have never needed to hard reset the system. (I have superfast cable internet though.)

Where are you putting your cameras?

I have mine indoors to avoid false positives (e.g. trees swaying in the wind), and the delayed recording seems to have reduced to 2 secs or so.

      • You can use 3.7V RCR123/16340 batteries . They are around $5 each for an OK one (e.g. soshine RCR123 and I charge them with a Nitecore D4.

        • Agree with Fiximol. Have not had any problems with my Arlo cameras at all. 2 are 100% exposed to the weather and still going strong.

I knew when I bought them that I needed to get rechargeable batteries.

But Pegaxs is correct about the delay between when motion is detected and when it records.

Hopefully the Arlo Pro will have a lesser delay. I will find out this weekend. Just got my Arlo Pro.
