  I just started playing Torchlight 2 again! Awesome game, Diablo clone that improves on many aspects of the game. More of a spiritual successor to Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 actually was.

  There's some really good mods out there since, like Synergy.

    Is it worth playing through the base game first before installing a mod like synergy? I started playing this a while back, but never got around to finishing it.

      Synergy changes up a lot so it can be worth playing the base game first. However, if you don't particularly like the combat style of any of the classes, install Synergy first because it has extra classes such as the Necromancer(ala Diablo 2), Paladin and some others. I'm playing as a Necromancer on my 2nd run through, although dual-wielding pistols Outlander was fun also.

        PS for those installing the Synergy mod, the instructions on the moddb page are out of date. Took me a little while to work this out:

        1. Install Torchlight 2 (duh)
        2. Download SynergiesMOD V1323 from here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/synergiesmod/downloads
        3. Upzip the file you just downloaded, there will be a single file called SYNERGIES.mod (note, if you have VLC installed it will have the VLC icon- must think its a video file).
        4. To actually install the mod, you need to put the SYNERGIES.mod file in the right location. For a steam install, this will be something like C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Runic Games\Torchlight 2\mods\
        5. Run the game, and choose the second red button (has a play symbol, a plus symbol, and a cog). That will show you the mod management screen where you should be able to select SYNERGIES and then run the game.

        Note- the C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Runic Games\Torchlight 2\mods\ folder doesn't seem to be created until you run the game at least once. Although you could probably manually create it yourself.

        I'm still stuck working out what class I want to play. On the class selection screen it says that Paladin is still a work in progress, so I'm not sure what the go is there.

        Anyhow, thanks again OP, and airal3rt for putting me (us?) onto the mod.

    Totally agree on this being the spiritual successor. Haven't tried mods at all, guess I'll have a look at it on youtube.
