    first 28days only?

    • yes.. recharge costs $29.90

    • +1

4.90 for even 10 days is good, let alone 28 days.

    • Do u have guys any idea what's the estimated delivery time in Cbd….thanks

  • +1

this appears to be better value than Lebara other than 2 days less expiry period.

  • +7

Does this have to be activated within 60 days?

    • I am wondering same. I need one cheap sim for July month as visitors are coming.

    • +2

Curious too. Am on Kogan atm with a lebara sim waiting, will like this too….

Once you have a sim for a given carrier can you go back to it? New to being a prepaid slut :)

      • +4

All these deals are making me into a sim slut too :(

      • most members here won't admit it but they are all telco churned and re churned recycled prepaid sluts.

      • Yes you can. For Optus, Telstra, boost, Vodafone, Amaysim etc, but not too sure what happens with certain deals like Kogan, Woolworths and this one with special one off deals for new customers first month. Obviousely if you port in for the first time as a new customer you will get special deal, probably if port out and back in as your only ( one sim and number in your name ) you could be eligable again but can't guarantee that, depends on their system.

Maybe someone with that experience can elaborate more please.

      • +3

        I'm a sim slut 3:)

    • +1

I called their customer service on 1300 854 607. They said "if a service has been activated and isn't used for 90 days it will be deactivated, but if it was never activated there won't be a problem". …not the most reassuring response, perhaps I didn't ask the right questions.

  • +1

Nice! Lyca uses the Telstra network

    • +1

      i think "part of" telstra?

  • On Payment page on top right there's an Amex logo however couldn't find and option for Amex card in the drop down list :-(

  • Can this sim be purchased instore somewhere?

    • I am sure you need to get this online and they activate promotion on the sim when you buy it.

  • +2

Do these starter kits have expiry date? Or I can store it as a backup Sim?

    • I would like to know this also

      • I would like to know this also

  • +1

Bonus data effective from 23/03/2017 to 30/04/2017

    • +1

only 20 days left and ticking tick tock.

  • Is the All in one 29 better value?

  • +10

There is a little sneaky checkbox (Auto-Renewal) under "Cart Summary" on the right side of your screen. Don't forget to uncheck it, if you are buying just for the first month!!

    Cheers!

    • Noticed that one all by myself ;)

    • how is it possible for them to charge renewal? isnt this prepaid

    • Good to warn people, looks like they learnt from Kogan, or other way round. They have credit/debit card details from ordering online, just like Kogan.

      • They take it one form of identification and I am happy to hand it over compared to my licence details.

        • Why? They can't get money from a drivers licence, unlike credit/debit card. Someone could use your drivers licence id details for crime/fraud ( like happened to me over two decades ago for getting expensive multiple mobile phone plan contracts out in my name ), but you can not be held liable as you did not purchase or sign contract yourself.

        • @ozhunter68: Untick auto renewal and you are done. If they still do, you can get it back.

  • +2

Anyone has any idea about the deadline for activation after purchase?

    • Nothing their website that mentions anything about a deadline ! Yipeee

  • Do people actually stay on these first month super cheap then expensive forever deals? Talk about set and forget.

I am not talking about you, ozbargainer. I am talking about the target market the company has in mind.

  • +2

Thanks OP. How about the expiry? I need to Go through kogan and lebara sims first

    • How about the expiry? I need to Go through kogan and lebara sims first

In my case it's Kogan and Woolworths mobile, with some Telstra data SIM's thrown in for good measure. I just took a $4.90 punt and bought one of the Lyca SIM's anyway.

      • +1

Haha, sounds like similar situation as me. Hard being a sim slut and keeping up with dozens of sim expiry dates and numerous changing offers from over half a dozen different Telcos lol.

  • +1

I did not get the 50% offer. they turned out with new terms (which is not mentioned on their website).
as I was with Lyca earlier in 2014 and I again went back to them in 2016, I did not get new customer benefit.

So be aware !!!! if you have been with Lyca before, DO NOT port back…

Lycamobile is seriously time waste, better stay with other teleco`s who has similar offer..

I will NOT recommend Lyca any more….

    • Are you porting in the same number that you used in 2014 or a different number?

      • It is the same number.

        • Okay makes sense. Wonder if you could be classified as a "new customer" if you activate it on a different phone number.

        • @squeeb:

          http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/transfer-your-number-to-lyca…

In this link it clearly says porting number gets 50% off…
But Lyca guys are pain.. Stay away from Lyca and live a happy life :)

        • @squeeb:

Thanks for your input. Would that same number porting also apply to the Kogan $1 / 12GB 30 day new customer offer or not?

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
I haven't gotten around to porting to Kogan yet. Still using up my other sim packs before expiry. Someone else may be able help in the Kogan thread.

        • +1

          @Mithu9:
Yeah. Doesn't mention that you have to be a new customer on that page.

The $4.90 special is a different deal all together. I was just wondering if they classify you as a new customer if you port in a number that has never been activated on Lycamobile or if you have never had a service activated with them under your name.

    • Buy the bundle as a new customer then use the pin you receive in your email on your old sim!!!

  • This may be a noob question, so my apologies, but does anyone know if a phone/voice SIM (i.e. this one) can be put in a WiFi dongle and use the data that way? Or is there a network restriction detecting what device the SIM is in?

  • Ordered two, thanks OP

"Bonus data effective from 23/03/2017 to 30/04/2017" … does this mean you must activate the sim b4 30/4 or that the bonus data disappears on this date?

  • Very good offer indeed but maybe worth reading the reviews before buying?? Don't think its worth dealing with all the crap from the company for $4.90… especially when something goes wrong…
    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/lycamobile.html

    • +1

Ouch, they're some really lousy reviews, and they don't support "hot spot", I'd only be buying it for the data using an old handset, so no thanks!

  • +1

Consider only for regular heavy overseas if fine with support & data ntwk mng't mvno risks.
Feeling grateful for easy VoLte \ Skype calling cards replacing those cheapies Lyca-lebara. Must be up to mysim#3/ 42/70gb via efficient Kogan .. .

    • Can you port away from Kogan and back with same name and number and still get the $1 12GB new customer offer?

      • Yes IMHO/experience. Unlikely that term would begin impeding returning new services or opening anew multiple <5 numbers not recharged.

        • Thanks for reply. Someone else on the Kogan $1 deal listing said they did and it still stands, so not sure now. Have you tried yourself?

        • @ozhunter68: not great if true, but I have not tested it. I may move my dormant services onto sims in boost mobile for scheduled deactivation, Kogan advise deactivate anyway automatically (IIRC >6mo+?) but more of a remote concern.

  • +1

Note that the Kogan Mobile 14GB for $1 deal is still active. This could be a good porting option between Kogan SIMs.

  • Bought a SIM card before I saw this Whirlpool thread. I'll be interested to hear if anyone has issue porting in and out with them?

    • 48 hours and still not ported. Apparently my old provider has not even received a port out request. This is the last time I am touching "LYCA"

  • +1

I called them before. They keep me on the line over one hour, stay away from them.

  • How long did they take to deliver guys? i need temporary internet/calls urgently

  • Might have been asked previously.
Can you port in from aldi on this? Or as per advert it says it's new sim only (which may mean you can't port in). Looking to buy more than one of these to port out/in. Easy with lyca?
    Ta.

  • +1

I activated the bundle on my old sim!!! Ha haaa

  • If you click the more link, it states:
    Valid until 18th April 2017

  • Just got the samecard. I have got a prepaid boost sim which I want to transfer to lycamobile.

The issue is I cannot see (boost mobile) in the list of providers to churn from.

Also it asks for an account number which I am not sure I have seen before on the boost prepaid.

    Anyone?

    • deleted comments, Kar200 has answered what Lycamobile require

      • No worries,

I followed the instructoions. The guy over the phone said that it would take up to 2h30 for the transfer to happen.

I am using the new sim but it still got the old number. I wonder what I have done wrong.

  • For the sim sluts out there,

I jsut called Lycamobile and for boost you have to select (Telstra).
For the account number you have to use 61xxxxxx (xx for your mobile number)

    Good luck.

  • I have the feeling Lyca is very sketchy.

Since a couple days of activating the sim I've had:

TEXT - "Westpac Alert: Transaction blocked on card ending 7040 at an ATM for $100 at 22:28. If genuine, reply 'Yes'. If fraud reply 'No'.

CALLS - 6 different calls from Marketing/Scammers from 6 different states.

I activated it as a new number. Lyca has to be selling details to third parties.

  • bought this and never received the sim card until today

  • Does anyone know if Lyca is roaming free in the US?
