Enough Now, What to Do to Lose Weight

I am tired of being FAT all my life!

With all these pizza/Krispy creme/7-eleven deals etc, I am becoming fatter day by day.

I can't give up food, I can't starve which is my weakness.

I just need a 1 line tip from Ozbargainers to reduce weight.

Thanks

UPDATE 1: Thanks so much Ozbargain - I am overwhelmed by the response.

You are such an awesome community. Helping a stranger out. I got several PM's as well. The world is an awesome place.

Today is my Day 3 without sugar and Day 2 of Food logging. Been a tiring day and I am sure worth it.

Comments

    • Being fit doesn't mean you can't indulge in KFC every once in a while.

Those things are not mutually exclusive. And how do you think they got all those properties. Being on ozbargain definitely helps. =)

When was the last time you did a full body detox?

    • -1

Tell me what this detox does that the liver doesn't?

    • I did get a few foot detox pads on eBay. Did it for a month, thought my overall health was improving but then came across a video explaining that the pads go black when it comes in contact with moisture. So not exactly good. False advertising.

      I stopped a year back.

  • +1

    Stop eating sugar.

  • +4

Honestly, the answer to your problem is this:

Eat only celery for 2 weeks straight.

YOu will be slim, happy and awesome in no time.

Dont listen to the following comments telling you its unhealthy. Being fat is unhealthy

2 weeks of no food will be good for you.

Cavemen did it. so can you.

    • Only Celery? Man, I will die of food starvation.

Can't try at this stage. But hopefully once I lose 10-12 kgs will give it a thought, with cucumbers and watermelon.

  • +1

Eat smaller portions of food, that's healthy, not processed.

  • I lost 18kg a couple of years ago and have kept it off. The most important thing for me was mindset. I had to decide to be healthier. That was how I looked at it, not as a weight loss thing.
First I dropped soft drink. Just doing that over a few months dropped around 2kg off me.
Then I went all out. I stopped eating any sugar. I also stopped eating pasta, potatoes, bread (except the occasional sourdough that I bake myself), cereal, rice, etc.
I ate lots of salads, piled the plate high with it so I felt full. Drizzled olive oil over the top.
I stopped having low-fat milk, cheese etc and started on the full fat versions.
Ate lots of veggies, a little bit of lean meat and so on.
    Walked the dog every day.
I felt like absolute crap for a few months. I constantly had colds.
Then I came out the other end feeling so much better. I was a lot lighter and had more energy. I was sleeping better, I was happier. The difference is amazing and well worth the effort of sticking with it.

    • @Showmethebargains - Good on ya mate. Yes I need to cut on bread/potatoes - which I find the most difficult.

  • +1

Diet wise you need to have everything planned out. Other wise once you are 'done' you will just go back to existing ways. Stuff like lite n easy works. They have a great indication of meal sizes. So do that for a little while until you get the understanding of how many of X you need to eat.

A personal trainer at this stage is overkill and a major waste of money.
Walking a little bit then walking a lot more is how you start. Start 10-20mins a day then go up to 50mins a day.
Own a dog take it for walks. Don't own a dog ask if you can walk a neighbours dog* or one from your local animal rescue.

Once you have managed to get upwards of 50mins a day walking then get a personal trainer. :)

    • depending on the neighbour you may even be able to make a little bit of money from it.

I'm not overweight at all but I have started to pork up a bit in the previous twelve months.
I recently had 4 weeks leave from work, and because I wasn't buying myself junk food every day at work, I lost 7kg. That was all purely from a diet change.
I went back to work, went back to eating the junk food and put the weight back on. Since then I have cut full sugar soft drink to one a day, and I prepare my own meals at home to take to work and I am now almost 10kg down on my original weight.
    No exercise required.

  • Cut the hell out of sugar as much as humanly possible
Cut bread and carbs as much as you reasonably can
Reduce fat, cheese etc to reasonable levels
Drink nothing but water or milk
Get some scales and reduce portion size (it will hurt for 3-4 days then normalise) to a consistent amount for all meals even if healthy

  • You can eat your way in I am sure you can walk your way out.

  • +3

Pick the worst food you eat and focus on changing that for one month, changing your habits. Repeat.

    • Would be Potatoes and bread.

      • +1

When I say the worst food I mean the most calorically dense. If it's potatoes and bread then okay but I'd think very hard about what your actual eating habits are. If you think that's where to start then go for it though.

  • Personally lose 35kgs. Secret - Diet and exercise

    • Congrats. Keep it up.

  • It is all about - finally deciding to JUST DO IT. As much as you don't want to hear it, it is all about making lifetime changes to your eating habits.
When you have had enough of being overweight - you will reach a stage that the desire to lose weight will be more than the desire to eat fat producing food. If you have not had enough of being overweight and the draw of the fat producing food is still stronger than your desire to change, then you will continue to be overweight. It is not enough to just "cutback"one day or take the low calorie option occasionally. That will not end in much joy in weightloss. It has to be a sustained effort. Eat healthily and halve what you would normally like to put on your plate (unless it is healthy vegetable - but not starchy veg). Unhealthy vegetables are just healthy veg that are cooked in too much fat and/or sugar and/or salt. Go easy on the sauces - just a smidgeon only.
After the first couple of weeks, it does get easier. Don't beat yourself up if you have the odd relapse - just get back on the program. Here endeth the lesson…

    • I had so many bad relapse and put on double of what I lost. But not this time. I am very motivated by Ozbargain community. Thanks to everyone.

No junk food, exercise, more protein and veg.

chicken breast and broccoli lunch and dinner, no sauce, only salt and pepper and other powdered seasonings that dont have extra sugar

Your snacks are 1 carrot in the morning, 50 burpees and 1 apple in the arvo with 50 burpees, no dessert. Breakfast is a whole grain cereal like muesli. I coffee/tea per day, rest water

craving a snack? 50 burpees is now your snack. the endorphins will kill the cravings quickly and for a long time.

Why burpees? you can do it anywhere, even on a plan and are quick to do

Once you can do 150 burpees a day, and not cheating with pissy 10cm jumps, or half assed push ups you can then incorporate more pushups, jumping knee raises, knee pull ups etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEHvu7Dt2EQ

If you cant do 50 in one go, do 2 sets of 25 with a 15 second break or 3 sets of 20 with a 10 second break.

you want to be around 1500 calories per day in an office type job which will put you in a calorie deficit. Might be +/- depending on your height.

Dont get a gym membership unless you like to pay for one to stand around waiting for equpitment in peak timnes

  • Sign up for the next season of The Biggest Loser.

  • Cut out simple carbs, eg. sugar.
Fibre is a carb but isn't digested eat as much fibre as you want.
Don't focus on the amount of fat, focus on the amount of sugar.

    • Cut out white foods for a month (dairy, bread, refined sugars). Watch your weight melt off you.

  • Its tough.

I'm lazy to cook my own food usually and can't resist the ozbargain Dominoes pizza deal, I can get a deep pan Supreme pizza for under $8.

My advice would be to , don't focus on the cost too much in first couple of weeks of dieting otherwise you'll be unsatisified or too tired preparing all the healthy food and give up.

Try convenient fast healthy food that suit a lazy person:

    • pre-pack salad pack (Adli cheapest) , just add your own lean meat to it for snack or meal
    • shredded lettuce (yes, its expensive at $2 a small pack, but I never eat that much lettuce so it lasts whole week sandwiches)
    • can tuna not in oil
    • breast chicken , if you too lazy to cook it, grab the $8 chicken and remove skin and discard it (yes discard skin) and then use the chicken meat for sandwich, salad addition etc
    • decent quality packaged soup without the "glugness/thickner" , look at ingredients
    • frozen vegies
    • frozen vegies with steam pack , if you after a snack, steam the frozen vegies in microwave pack and eat proteien (chciken or tuna) and this should put those cravings away for 3 hours hopefully
    • because salads or lean meat taste "bland", try adding balsamic vingegar or tobassco chilli

    • DO NOT LOOK AT THE FROZEN PIE Section , its just so cheap and filling so AVOID

    • No sandwiches.
Can tuna in oil is actually the best of the lot.
      Packaged soups aren't food, wtf.
      Rest is fine.

      • Cheers, just got some half price tuna cans.

        • Np. The first two weeks will be HELL. Your brain will CONTINUE to tell you to give up and 'this will never work'; screw that guy! Mentally prepare for this. Print out a fourteen day calendar you can crossout on your fridge. Two weeks is nothing, you owe this to yourself.

        • @KLoNe: Yup you are right. This is my day 2. and I already feel like shite. :/ Just succumbed to an omelette and bread.

My printer's ink run out :( Will need to print out few motivational things + 14 day thingy.

          Cheers

Eat sensibly, train consistently and divorce your old lifestyle.

  • Replace your junk food with healthy tasty salad (fresh lettuce, cucumber, olives, feta cheese, tomato, lentil/chickpea, beetroot, carrot with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper dressing whenever you get hungry) much cheaper if you buy all the ingredients in bulk capered to junk food - swap some of the ingredients with grilled zucchini/capsicum/eggplant/different types of nuts/canned tuna etc so you won't get bored

  • -6

Just eat Potatoes.. Nothing but Potatoes. If you want to lose weight the quickest and still feel good. But for long term weightloss, look at Starches as your main ingredient.

  • +1

Make lunch the biggest meal of the day, never snack, ban sugary drinks (these are barely addictive) including reducing sugar from your coffee, then work on daily exercising habit (perhaps before a meal so are rewarded with food if you are motivated that way - can change later).

Habits take a long time to form so trick your brain in the mean time and take baby steps. Exchange snacks for a walk outside. You have too many triggers leading you to food, just train yourself to be a bit more self aware and the rest will follow.

  • Consider any exercise session you would have done.
Look at how many calories you would have burnt.

You'll find it's much easier to just not eat those calories in the first place.

  • Cutting straight out will be stressful and could result in rebound-binge-eating.

tl;dr reduce sugar, alternative healthy snacks, exercise. Start with smaller changes then increase. Keep motivated. Find the right diet for you.

Sounds like you have more of a snacking problem - I say for now, just reduce sugar (not eliminate completely but cut back on any soda, candies, cakes, etc.) and go hiking or find a hobby that gets you physically moving (even if you just start off with evening walks).

Find a healthier snack that you don't mind as a replacement. You can buy healthy chocolate bars and things or go for yoghurt/muesli/fruits/nuts/rice crackers or something (just remember fruit sugar is still sugar). Some people allow them selves a small naughty snack periodically to tide them over or motivate them, but this might not be for everyone.

Mental fortitude will be your best friend in any diet. The fact that you started this thread is a good sign already. It's hard to stay motivated on your own so if you feel up to it - and don't mind sharing - keep us posted, plenty of good folk here will help you through the tough times :) If you can get an irl diet-buddy, even better.

You don't need to start out on some fancy no-everything-diet. Do what you're comfortable with to fix your bad snacking habits, then move on to a stricter diet with say healthier meals. You don't need to go full out salad diets. I mean as long as its healthier than what you are having now it means you're making progress.

Find your TDEE. Consume less than that.

Energy in VS Energy Out. It hasn't changed, EVER

  • Self-discipline.

It's literally that simple. You are fat because you choose to be (this doesn't apply to everyone, but it most certainly does to you.)

  • A moment on the lips forever on the hips

  • Put down the fork, go for a walk. See - I even made it rhyme! :D

But seriously, as a rough guide you're meant to be eating ~8700kj each day so first thing is for you to get an idea how much you're exceeding that target by on a daily basis. This will only work if you're prepared to be completely honest with yourself and acknowledge every calorie that you eat, if not then you'll never leave fatsville.

Once you know how much you need to cut back you then need to develop the willpower to act on it, but you should chalk up some quick wins if you target sugar and bread / carbs straight off the bat and avoid foods with a high fat content.

Controlling cravings is hard work and exercise is hard work but they're both good habits to get into, sooner the better.

  • The trick is to make food yourself that's tasty and healthy, you have to learn how to do this, it won't be easy, it takes effort. No amount of advice is going to give you the resolve to do this, you have to find it in yourself.

Nothing processed, keep it all natural and the weight will fall off, even without exercise, although I highly recommend doing some exercise as it lifts your mood and resolve.

For example, I eat only various fruits in the morning, banana, dates, rasberries, apple, etc, If I'm really hungry or I'm doing exercise later I'll eat the fruits with oats and honey, maybe some cinnamon and vanilla. And not the oats that come in a packet with added sugar, all boxed breakfast cereal is rubbish.

Lunch, lean meat, chicken breast, tuna, turkey etc, in a salad, or with a moderate portion of rice, or wholemeal bread with seeds, and mixed veggies. It sounds plain, but of course I add various spices to make everything DELICIOUS, even the veggies can be roasted with olive oil and oregano, chilli, etc, yum. It goes back to you being willing to learn to cook well, otherwise you won't be able to become healthy eating boiled chicken and veggies because it will taste so bland that you will crack and go back to your old ways. Also most fast food, even the "healthy" outlets, are just not as healthy as they let on, you have to learnt to cook healthy yourself, don't use jars of ready made sauce filled with sugar, flavoring, coloring, preservative, etc, these mess with your ability to stay on the right track. Not easy.

Eat SLOWLY, CHEW, It usually takes me 30 MIN to enjoy and finish a meal, this really helps in eating the correct amount, when you feel even remotely like your stomach has food in it, STOP EATING, that is your brain trying to tell you that you are full, I know for a fact most overweight people have been ignoring this sense.

Try and eat some low fat yogurt with various meals, it is filling, healthy and the slow calcium absolution also helps reduce fat absorption. Make sure you are getting vitamin C (not from a pill), I like to chuck a slice of lemon in boiling water a few times a day instead of tea, it upps your vitamin C and reduces cravings, fills you up a bit more than plain cold water.

I'm sure I have other tricks, but they are so natural to me that it's hard to remember everything on a whim. Losing weight and being healthy is a lifestyle, it doesn't come overnight, it takes time and energy, you have to really want to be healthy.

    • Some really great advice in here.

The only thing I would change is swap out the "low-fat" yoghurt for the regular variety, the fat will keep you fuller for longer and many "low-fat" yoghurts just replace the fat with sugar which is worse for you, tastes worse and leaves you hungrier.

      • Most unflavored low fat yogurts have no added sugar, its only the flavored ones which do, which should be avoided whether low fat or not.

Personally I would go with low fat if the aim is losing weight, yogurt is filling no matter what the fat content is, and the reduced calories from low fat will help towards your energy deficit, fat is exactly twice as energy dense as protein and carbs so it quickly adds up.

But your stance is also perfectly valid, and if for a particular person the regular yogurt helps them eat less frequently or later, then it all evens out, it all comes down to the persons awareness and resolve, either way works if you make it work! Just eat natural foods and be aware of yourself.

  • travel to africa…or asia for 3 months. i doubt you will be able to be fat

Might have been suggested already. Everyone you feel like eating anything, drink 2 glasses of water first, then eat, then 2 glasses of water afterwards. You will most likely eat less after that as water is going to take up some room. Even if you pig out, at least you already have water to help digest.
Water is extremely important for weight loss.

  • I Lost 21kg with Lite n Easy …. :) i now only use them for lunches and control the portion of my dinners … stay away from diets that cut out specific things and control portions you eat.

Get a fit bit or similar to see how much calories you are actually burning and use the app to track how much you are eating… its amazing how much cal you can have in a day if/when you dont pay attention.

Anywho it takes some will power in the beginning and its embarrassing when you realise how much you were over-eating at the start, don't let that discourage you .. once it starts to come off or you reach your goal you'll just never want to go back so that was a plus for me.

The things i learnt is that in the end it comes down to what you burn vs what you eat… i drink, eat out now and again .. enjoy food with friends and family and haven't gained any weight back .. Best of luck.. feel free to PM me .. i've killed my 1 line limit as it is hahaha

I can't give up food, I can't starve which is my weakness.

it is up to you really, one of these days, you might one day wake up and decide to do something about it, or you might not.

I used to weight 130+kg, it was getting to the point where my knees hurts just by walking up a few steps, so I decided it is time to do something about it.

    Some of things I did:

    • have slightly healthier food, instead of chicken schnitzel with double chips and gravy or lemon/honey chicken with fried rice for lunch everyday, I switched over to roast meat with veggies or a loaded out sandwich, lost like 20kg within a few months

    • instead having 4 or 5 cans of regular Coke everyday, I switched over to Zero, and eventually, plain water, also gave up most other sweet things, lost another 10kg

    • I did laxed off and re-gained some weight, maybe 10kg

    • found a girl I really liked, motivated me to loose some weight (let's face it, most girls don't like fat guys), cut down my meals portion, loose all the chips and other snacks, lost another 10kg

    • still got rejected in the end, got into a massive depression where on most days I would barely eat anything, used to think I can't live without a full stomach 24/7, but turns out emotional pain can easily overcome/overshadow the physical pain of a constantly empty stomach, lost another 15kg

    • at the moment I am eating about half of what I used to eat, but still feel full at the end of the meal, made me realised that I was just stuffing my face with food because I could, currently I am loosing weight slowly (maybe 0.5 per week)

    • once I get to the ideal weight of my height (another 10kg to go), maybe I will have another crack at the girl (assuming she rejected me because of my weight), this is my main motivation at the moment.

I used to think I can't live without burgers/pizzas/donuts/ice cream/anything deep fried and what not, but turns out not, but like I said, you will need to find the motivation within you, no one can force you to do anything you don't want to do.

    • Sad to hear that you got rejected. Was thinking it may be worth trying out some strength training at the gym, it helped me though a tough time and I've heard if you're a bit heavier you put on muscle a lot quicker. It could also serve as a good ego/self confidence boost and help you be a bit more confident when asking her out again.

      • +1

        thx for that :)

yeah I have been doing a little bit of weights as well, I found an old dumbbell (only 6kg worth of disc, plus whatever the bar/pole weights) in the garage, so I have been using it over the last month or so, slowly working my way up, plus whatever other exercise I could do at home like planking, squats, push/seat ups etc.

don't really feel like going to the gym right now as my body weight/shape is still too embarrassing compare to the regulars there :) (I walk past a few gyms everyday going to/from work)

anyway, to the OP, I am about 85kg/175cm at the moment, still about 10kg off the ideal weight for my height, but a far cry from 130+, but it took me several years to get to this point, so there will be no overnight magic solution, and you will need to motivate yourself for it.

  • Cycle to work and get plenty of sleep

  • Late to the party but mine would be 'exercise is an opportunity, not a chore'… So if you can walk to the shops to buy food… Take that opportunity. Early for work? Get off the bus /train a stop earlier and walk. Use the opportunity to walk along the beach before you lose that chance.

To lose weight you need to hate yourself enough that you feel sickly guilty when you eat bad food.

    Good luck

  • Hi there,

Your answer, if you REALLY want to get lean & healthy, is "juicing":

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XDSpuMIMPs

You have to commit to it. You don't have to go for an entire 60 days, but use the time to get out of your current, self-defeating mindset. You CAN change your ways & it takes a jump-start, like this juicing detox, to snap yourself out of old & very bad habits.

Once you get to a weight & level of health you think is good, start to gradually add back good, nutritious foods. No more junk, no more processed cr*p. You'll start to see "real" food as the best.

    Good luck to you!

PS: Joe Cross stated that the first three-five days are very hard on the body. Be prepared, drink plenty of water, & just stay the course. :)

  • Increase your muscle mass to increase your calorie burn rate to match that (ideally exceeding) of your calorie intake.

  • Every answer is bullshit. There's only 1 true answer to:

"I just need a 1 line tip from Ozbargainers to reduce weight."

    Answer: EAT LESS

You're fat because you eat too much. Literally every single person in the world who is fat, is fat because they eat too much. There's literally no other reason. (some other factors may compound, but those other factors only matter when you eat too much).

You are fat because you eat more than your body needs. Eat less than your body needs to lose weight, and eat the right amount your body needs to stay the same weight.

    Yes, it's that simple.

There is no diet out there that isn't bullshit. None of it matters. You can eat chocolate cake every day and lose weight so long as you eat LESS THAN YOUR BODY NEEDS. It is all calories / kilojoules.

    • +1

You are fat because you eat more than your body needs. Eat less than your body needs to lose weight, and eat the right amount your body needs to stay the same weight.

the way I look at it is, food = money

with money, if you earn more then you spend = savings, which is literally what fat is, your body is storing the excess food you don't need now as fat
if you earn less then you spend = debt (loose weight)

with food, you would obviously want to aim for debt (or at least living from pay cheque to pay cheque) rather then savings

does the above fit in with the ozbargain theme? :)

      • I'll give you an upvote for that analogy.

    • No shit; but I'm answering the question assuming for some stupid reason they can't stop eating food.

THis is the only line you need. You dont put in more fuel than is needed.

  • Hi mate,

I have also decided to lose weight and so far lost around 4.3 kg in past 4 weeks.

Below is my strategy and required tools:

    -> Problem1 - Lose weight in a given timeframe
-> Solution1 - Download My fitness Pal to track calories
——>Problem2 - How to track calories in a given food portion?
——>Solution2 - Buy a kitchen scale, and learn how to read nutrition labels
————>Problem3 - But if I am eating less, then I would have cravings and headaches
————>Solution3 - Drink 1-2 teaspoon of Apple cider vinegar in the morning. This would suppress food cravings.

Simple. Calories burned should be greater than calories intake. It's all maths…:)

  • Cut sugar as much as you can. You may be surprised how much it can affect weight.

  • get a gym membership
    get a netflix subscription
download netflix on smart phone or tablet
load it with what ever movies/tv episodes you want to watch
    go on treadmill
    watch movies/tv episodes
    lose weight
    PROFIT!!!
(sorry had to chuck in the meme)
still need to watch what you eat though.

    or
if you have no self control. get private health insurance that covers bariatrics, wait one year and get stomach surgery.
out of pocket is like 6 grand even with private health
this still requires you to watch what you eat, you just get full quicker so if you stuff your face then you will probably spew up.

Wow so many fitness health experts and advises was given here but the question why bother helping when the OP is so -ve at everything and not willing to give up his/her food cravings.

    OPTION 1)
So the question is when highly obese people is treated as a crime and punishable especially when our food supplies go low.
Well its a sin for the Christians anyway so why not start enrol yourself to be a christian if that helps.

    taken from Wikipedia

Gluttony (Latin, gula) is the overindulgence and overconsumption of anything to the point of waste. The word derives from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow.

In Christianity, it is considered a sin if the excessive desire for food causes it to be withheld from the needy.

Because of these scripts, gluttony can be interpreted as selfishness; essentially placing concern with one's own impulses or interests above the well-being or interests of others.

During times of famine, war, and similar periods when food is scarce, it is possible for one to indirectly kill other people through starvation just by eating too much or even too soon.

Medieval church leaders (e.g., Thomas Aquinas) took a more expansive view of gluttony, arguing that it could also include an obsessive anticipation of meals, and the constant eating of delicacies and excessively costly foods.Aquinas went so far as to prepare a list of five ways to commit gluttony, comprising:

    Laute – eating too expensively
    Studiose – eating too daintily
    Nimis – eating too much
    Praepropere – eating too soon
    Ardenter – eating too eagerly
Out of these ardenter is often considered the most serious, since it is extreme attachment to the pleasure of mere eating, which can make the committer eat impulsively; absolutely and without qualification live merely to eat and drink; lose attachment to health-related, social, intellectual, and spiritual pleasures; and lose proper judgement[original research?]: an example is Esau selling his birthright for ordinary food of bread and pottage of lentils. His punishment was that the "profane person … who, for a morsel of meat sold his birthright," we learn that "he found no place for repentance, though he sought it carefully, with tears." [Gen 25:30]

    OPTION 2)
Start with my idol MJ's :) song. "Man in the mirror"

I’m gonna make a change, for once in my life
It’s gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference
    Gonna make it right…
As I turn up the collar on my favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin’ my mind
I see the kids in the street, with not enough to eat
Who am I, to be blind? Pretending not to see their needs
    A summer’s disregard, a broken bottle top
    And a one man’s soul
They follow each other on the wind ya’ know
’Cause they got nowhere to go
That’s why I want you to know
I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
(If you wanna make the world a better place)
Take a look at yourself, and then make a CHANGE.

Today most food are engineered/processed to be longer lasting, cheap ingredients and addictives/additives keeps the consumers coming back for more. Sadly there are already too many processed food and drinks in our daily food menu which will cause the victims/addicts who over consumed the limit of the body can burn, filter or repair.

Here are the top 10 Tips from the people who live over 100+ .

    1) Have friends
    2) Eat straight from the garden fresh foods
    3) The earlier you study the better (knowledge)
    4) Be happily living/married when everything is perfect harmony (keep trying until you reach that)
    5) Behave well to other people, respect and you will receive back a 100 folds…. ( i think they meant karma)
    6) Always talk and listen to your parents, or consider their advice….. ( I guess this is for normal parents, as I could with my mum but not with my dad)
    7) Always be independent and ask for help when you need them.
    8) Keep right on until the end of the road (….its coming from a music box)
    9) Have a glass of whiskey every nite…. (delete, ignore)
10)Ask anyone you know that has live passed 100? you know none? hmmmmm I must look at the current sadistics.

    • Laute, Studiose, Nimis, Praepropere, Ardenter

These sound like they could be awesome character titles straight out of a magic game.

      • Yes….they could "Dante's Inferno" which there is already a game for xbox 360 and ps3.

  • The best diet is one you can stick to.

I managed to lose 10kgs a month on a strict low carb diet. Chicken, tuna, broccoli, pumpkin is all i ate, eating a sub from subway was a cheat meal for me. Biked for an hour 3-5 days a week. Went from 119kg to around 76kgs. Started gym after I hit my lowest weight, gained about 10kg in mass (I assume mostly muscle).

Weird hours at work made me quit the gym. It's been about a year off gym, back to 100kgs. Gonna go through the journey again… Looking forward to drastic weight loss again.

  • Try a 5+2 diet.
5 days eat normal, 2 days a week not one after the other eat only 2 avocados.
    In general avoid sugar.

    Keep it simple

    • Or two, 250 calorie meals ;)

See the Coles and Woolworths catalogue specials posted each week by TA and co -> don't buy most of that sh*t - it's processed food.

Try to buy whole foods and cook it yourself.

You mentioned getting a PT. Why don't you go for a long walk - 30-45 minutes, start slowly and build it up.

Try to find the motivation from within, as opposed to without (sorry poetic license).

  • Dismiss anyone saying Keto. You don't need to read a book or go on a strict diet and do all this hipster mid-30s bullshit.. Intermittent fasting - AKA don't have breakfast. It's a calorie deficit that will build over time.. That's all you need.

Read the 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. I was 92 kg for many years and after reding that I lost 10 kg within 3-4 months. It is possible without any or minimal exercise!

  • Change your life

  • how much money you got?

get a personal trainer. if you aren't confident enough to go to a gym, you can get one to do outdoor classes in private.

  • Ditch bread, rolls, wraps at lunch and put it all in a bowl instead.
I was having 2-3 sangas a day and was staying mildly oveweight. Ditched the bread and just put the inside of the sangas in a bowl, lettuce, chicken etc and lost a fair bit. Mind you I have a fairly physical job.

    • You have a physical job, eat only 2-3 sandwiches a day and was slightly overweight? Man that sucks!

Move to the moon. 1/6 the weight there. No mass loss unfortunately. 😉

  • Get a personal trainer and stick with it. Expensive but it's worth it, and it helps with motivation issues. I lost 12 kgs last year (the weight I put on after finishing year 12) and am now at a healthy weight. But you've gotta stop being lazy.

  • energy deficit

  • Don't eat breakfast
    Don't smoke
    Don't have coffee
    Rarely have sugar
    Ignore snacks
    Big lunch
    Medium dinner
    Alcohol on weekends only

    Drink lots of water
    Works for me

  • Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a peasant. Oh, and exercise regularly (3-5 times a week if possible). Any activity is fine.

  • Get a job that requires being physical. E.g. courier driver, bread/milk run etc or get a vegan partner. Sorry I've been skinny all my life so take my advice with a grain of salt.

  • Unless your willing to make a lifetime commitment to keeping it off don't bother.

You see it all the time on the Biggest Loser, people lose the weight, then end up putting it all back and then some and this is why in laymens terms.

When you restrict calories you burn calories from fat, obviously. So if your Basal metabolic Rate is 3000 Calories and then you restrict to 2000 Calories per day, your body still burns 3000 calories, 2000Cals from food 1000Cal Fat/muscle tissue.

    Straight forward right?

Problem is this only works for so long, so your body slows down your metabolism to this restricted calories, (body thinks there's no food, lets slow down metabolism to compensate, it doesn't know there's a Mcdonalds around corner)

So your new BMR eventually becomes 2000 Calories per day and the weight loss stops, Great i've lost 10 kgs, im at my goal weight.

Let's go back to eating before where I was maintaining my weight at 3000 Calories and not putting on weight. Stable.

Body says no you don't, your new BMR is 2000 Calories, Now lets feed 3000 Calories per day, so you put on all the weight and then some and end up with a worst metabolism for it.

    In laymans terms.

Unless your willing to commit to eating less for the rest of your life, maintain eating less, exercise, then don't bother.

Harsh truth about losing weight, that's why most who lose end up fat again.

  • Apparently weight watchers is really good. I'd get on that. Or cook for yourself. I can't believe how many people on here live on pizza.

Most of all OzBargain always has pizza promotions or hungry jacks promotions or whatever. Stop eating that crap.

Next - exercise. Go for a walk after work, if you tram or train to work see if you can get off at the previous stop and walk. It's good for you and it's free.

I've given up soft drink with lunch. I get water so I can take it back to my desk.

There are several apps for this. Download one and try it out.

  • Consult your local dietitian, participate in VLCD program. You get 5 free sessions under Medicare each year start from 1/Apr each year. Personal experience I lost over 25kgs in about 6 month and all my vitals improved.

  • Im in the same boat op and it is sinking until one of us gives up the shit food.

. Replace the unhealthy food with healthly.
. Dont eat carbs or very minimal at dinner.
. Healthly snacks like fruit, nuts not salted.
. Beer drinker? Start drinking lo carb, no largers start to reduce and reduce intake of burbons and whiskey.

  • I lost 20 kg a few years ago using myfitnesspal. www.iifym.com/iifym-calculator/ is also a decent. Also check out https://www.reddit.com/r/loseit/ it's what initially got me started, especially their FAQs and quick start guide. Calorie counting and eating at a healthy and sustainable calorie deficit was basically how I did it.

    • I practice IFFYM. Lets you eat the foods you enjoy. Also use MFP everyday, obviously to track the macros.

Currently doing intermittent fasting and my eating window is 11am-7pm. If I feel hungry outside of that then I'll drink 800 ml of water (Voss bottle) and the hunger subsides for at least 2 hours. Really useful trick to fight through the hunger.

  • Subscribe to Netflix. Watch "Fat Sick & Nearly Dead" documentaries by Joe Cross. Also, Fork over knives.

This should help with the jump start. Motivated me to eat healthier.

    Cheers
    John

This question shows you are lazy.

Give me one word to make me rich.

Give me one word to make me an amazing lover.

Give me one word to make me smart.

It doesn't work that way. If it did, everyone would be successful in all areas of life.

It take work and motivation. Probably moreso motivation.

Nothing is going to change unless you connect with that underlying emotional (usually painful reason) you want to change.
