NBN Plans -Telstra /Foxtel

Hi all.

Advice needed comparing the below NBN plans. I'm currently with Telstra adsl2+ and is looking to upgrade to NBN plan

At the moment I have a $15 discount/Month on my plan which according to the Telstra rep -might be able to continue even after I upgrade.
So with the $15 discount applied towards the large bundle + international ultimate pack gives me the below services.

$120 a month with 2000GB, FOXTEL Entertainment package + Telstra TV + International Ultimate Pack(35 Countries to call unlimited) , 25/5 speed

Telstra Large bundle

I have also noticed a similar bundle in the Foxtel website

$120 -Unlimited data + Foxtel Sports bundle + Unlimited local national calls (excluding mobile) ,25/5 speed

Any other providers i should look at? In the past i had TPG,Ipimus & Optus and since moving to Telstra 6 years ago, I am kind of happy here .

So my mind is in favour towards Telstra bundle as it has more value for money.

Also I presume their basic Foxtel pack have some HD channels available or do I have to upgrade to get HD?

    Presume nothing. :P

No you don't get any HD included (which is bonkers in 2017 IMO) and you need to pay $10 for it. Also remember that the $26 base entertainment pack has basically nothing good in it besides Sky News. By the time you get some sport and movies and HD you're looking at $75+ a month. So all of a sudden your $120 bundle is ~$180+.

Also be careful with Foxtel as an ISP. Fairly sure they don't use Telstra back haul so don't expect Telstra like speed/reliability for the internet.

      So nothing good then…

Personally I think Foxtel is horribly overpriced for what is poor quality shovelware. It depends on what exactly you do, but I'd be looking at something like 50/20 NBN with 500GB from AussieBroadband, together with VoIP for the phone, and Netflix for entertainment.

    $75+$15+$9 = $99

Yeah i recently got the telstra 1000GB + fotel entertainment bundle for $114/m. Was paying $110 with optus so not bad for the foxtel. No HD channels, as stated above you have to pay $10/m to get HD.

I can't comment on the NBN quality with telstra as they haven't showed up in over a month and 3 NBN technician appointments.

I have only heard bad things about Foxtel broadband but it may have improved. idk

Anecdotally, it appears that this happens a lot. I'm supposed to have an NBN appointment this afternoon, but it's half over and there's no word yet. And it'll only be a 10-minute job because I already have Foxtel on HFC.

My daughter also had an NBN no-show, but that appears to have been the retailer's stuffup rather than the NBN.

    • Fears allayed, the NBN guy turned up with an hour to spare and did his 5-minute changeover.

Unless you are getting foxtel for sports, or specifically a certain channel then dont bother getting it. I have foxtel for the sports, but if it wasnt for that i wouldnt even have it.
