Spigen Galaxy S8/S8+ Ultra Thin Fit Slim Case $13.99 Delivered @ Pro Gadgets eBay

1160

As the soon-to-be owner of a Galaxy S8 (thanks to rzrz's stonker of a deal) I thought it would be prudent to invest in a good case; ideally one that doesn't mess with the phone's form factor. I found this case on ebay at Pro Gadgets, an approved Spigen distributor, so it won't be an Ali special. $13.99 is a good chunk less than the RRP ($24.99) and the nearest cheapest I could find from Mobile Zap ($21.99), and a good price for a branded case.

Comes in a few colours including black for both the S8 and S8+. The S8 cases appear to be on pre-order (not sure on the time frame right now) but the S8+ cases are instock.

Should be Australia stock - please correct me if i'm wrong.

every phone model has 3rd party phone cases available prior to release.

    • +10

i've previously used Spigen cases and never had issues with quality. pretty safe bet I think

    • +2

Otterbox has cases for sale too. Will that be bad as well?

    • +1

I have a Spigen OnePlus 3T case I brought off Pro Gadgets, it's excellent quality but you're paying extra for a name brand.

I have brought some phone cases off Aliexpress that is about half the price $7-8AUD and it was very high quality as well. However, shipping takes 2-4 weeks and Pro Gadgets ships it using Priority shipping (1-2 business days).

      • +24

Guess you have to take it on a… case by case… basis?

    • +1

I had my spigen case delivered before the iphone 7's were officially released. I had it in my hand to check the size and everything, and it fit perfectly the moment it arrived a week later. Spigen is a big brand, you're just making an unnecessary deal out of it.

  • +11

For anyone looking for something with slightly more protection, research suggests this case is best: Spigen Neo Hybrid - available from the same seller http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Galaxy-S8-Case-Genuine-SPIGEN-Neo…

  • +12

+1 for Spigen. Such a good case brand.

  • +8

Spigen are a great brand with usually very high quality.

I love Ringke cases though: clear TPU so you can see the device, very high quality. They make sure there's no wierd effects when you look at devices through clear cases.

    • +2

Ringke Fusion only $9.99, that seems very cheap or normal pricing for them?
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Galaxy-S8-S8-Plus-Case-shock-proo…

      • Thanks ordered a clear ringke case as well as a spigen. Highly rate ringke been using a case of theirs for a few years.

        • Do they turn yellow over time?

        • @plasmapuff: mine hasn't

        • @plasmapuff: the fusion cases do, but only around the edges. The back is hard plastic and doesn't go yellow

        • @TheRealCJ: Thanks guys. Will stick to my tried and tested spigen rugged armour.

        • @plasmapuff: I actually really like the Ringke cases, but go with the clear back and black edges, which eliminates the yellowing problem.

  • I can't believe that Samsung haven't created a case like the ones for the S6 and S7 where it just covers the back and corners. My only guess is that they are extremely worried about the durability of this phone so want you to cover it up completely with their own brand cases.

    • +1

They have. They made them ugly af end cap rubber things.

  • I wanted the Air case for S8+ from Spigen but unfortunately Progadgets doesnt know if it will be in stock for another 2 weeks when I contacted them yesterday.

  • Great case i have the Tough Armor for my S7

    • Hi I just got an S7, do you recommend this case? its not too bulky right? do you drop the phone a lot? does it survive? how long have you had it on for? thank you

      • I've had tough armour for about 8 months and it's great. I drop a lot (unfortunately I broke back glass before I got the case ha). Mine's a bit scratched on metal coloured coating on the case, but otherwise in excellent condition.

  • What about glass screen protectors? Any deals?:)

    • +8

that's my next purchase, i'll post it up if i find a good deal (:

      • great, keep us updated! keen to see which screen protector works best with this case

    • +7

Super difficult to apply to curved screen phones.

      • otter box has some…..

    • +1

For those still looking for a screen protector: the official samsung plastic screen protector fits perfectly with this case ($25 for 2). The store installs it for you and there is no edge lift when compared to glass protectors. No drop in sensitivity/funtionality either.

  • -2

    any iphone 8 cases?

  • +15

next person that posts a s8 related bargain deal should do 1 for a 256gb micro SD card :D

  • I have to say this is not a good case. It's hard case which is less shock protection and even worst when choose the slim one, the color look cheap I rather use transparent case, open cut for button is ok for slim case but still less convenient to use the button. And SPIGEN is generally overprice and not any better. I used many years of Ringke Fusion, it's the best case I ever known, ordered $9.99 from local ebay store.

  • +2

i wish phone was manufactured with cases in mind. But not in a traditional way. since case adds thickness and weight, why not just design a phone that is a bit bigger and tougher. like the samsung active.

  • Like others have said, Ringke Fusion is amazing. Clear plastic back with a hard rubber lip face. Puregear Slim Shell has the same thing too.

  • +3

I highly recommend avoiding this ultra slim one. I had it on my S7 and it is shit at protection. I dropped my phone getting out og the car and the edges of my phone were damaged.. would go for the neo hybrid or something instead.

  • +1

What is the purpose of this case? It doesn't even protect the curved edges.

  • +5

I recommend the spigen rugged armor. Slightly thicker but still thin and protects all edges by forming a nice lip over the screen. Using on my S7 edge now which has survived countless drops out of the pocket.

Its the highest rated consistently of all the spigen cases if you look on Amazon.

    • Do you have a tempered glass screen protector for your S7 Edge case? If so, appreciate knowing the make or link to where you purchased it from.

      • +1

Nope. None of them really stick properly without lifting due to the curve screen. The only ones which stick are the wet application protectors.

        • Im getting the impression that most people with the S7 Edge and SPIGEN cases are unsuccessful with Tempered glass screen protectors. Some other Well known case brands may be compatible. I did read somewhere that the SupCase Unicorn Beetle was successful with some Tempered glass protectors.

        • +1

          @Scotch:
Don't think it's the case, rather the fact that it's hard for the protector to stick to curves.

I've read multiple reddit, xda threads with hundreds of comments and comparisons. The end result was that there was no perfect tempered glass protector. Ymmv.

        • +1

@Scotch:Yea I bought 2 this week what a waste of money, they didn't stay on for long.

        • +1

@Scotch: ok I just spend another $33 and finally this tampered screen is working it's by Zuslab for galaxy 7 edge with Spigen casing

        • @Buff: Cheers. Do you have a link? and, was the icheckey screen protector one of those you trialed? - Amazon comments suggested it had a good run with both the Spigen and the Supcase Unicorn Beetle?

        • @Buff: thanks. Ordered.

        • @Buff: Still happy with your screen protector? Ive got a Slim Armour case but honestly in terms of protection, The UAG or Supcase Unicorn Beetle look like the pick from all the reviews I have read.

    • Do you know if it is better than Spigen Neo Hybrid :
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Galaxy-S8-Plus-Case-Genuine-SPIGE…

      • Yup this is one…I have the same one

        • Is Neo Hybrid decent and add safety?

    • I've got the Tough armor for my Galaxy S5. It is amazing. Have dropped the phone 10 times this year on everything from tiles to gravel and no cracks or anything.

Has a raised lip on the edges too which helps, not sure how it will affect the bezel on an S8 though.

If you don't mind your phone being a little chunky, then I'd rate it 10/10.

      • +1

Had the Tough Armor on my S5 from day 1. It's a great case and I love the look and feel.

  • +1

Great seller, have bought many cases from them. Always shipped within a day.

  • Anyone know of a reviewed full screen protector for the S8 variant? I see a few appearing with a search.

  • -2

Are these case graded for bomb containment?

  • -2

    is it fire proof?

  • I had one of these for my S7 Edge, it was too bulky (clearly i'm not looking for a lot of protection).
Consider Nillkin (my current case), looks like they are doing a front glass cover.

  • I am very tempted for this phone but really need to see the fit of its form factor in my hand first, especially given the location of the finger print scanner

  • Spigen are quality.

  • Thanks for the tip about the Ringke Fusion. It looks much better than this. My last two cases have been spigen and they are good but nothing outstanding.

  • Is there a good deal on s8 mobile that anyone can recommend?

    Thanks

  • This is the best case they do…doesnt feel bulky at all.

  • +1

I've got the S7 edge version of this case. However I dropped my phone in the gym and cracked the glass back of the phone. Its good for usability of the phone but it only offers limited protection. If I was going S8+ which is worth over $1400, I'd probably get something more rugged that protects the edges more.

  • -1

    What an explosive deal!

  • +3

Minimum screen repair cost will almost be $400. This model does not offer enough screen protection.

    • Yeah, I'm scared. I'm probably going to go overboard and get an Otterbox Defender.

  • +1

What does everyone think of the UAG cases? The Spigen Neohybrid failed me partially unfortunately, my phone developed a tiny hairline crack despite having a screen protector and falling on a flat surface.

    • I have a UAG case on my s7. Very good looking case, not too bulky, and feels great in the hand. Great protection too.

  • +1

as a s7 edge owner. I prefer an all of in one case with screen protection built in. you will find the curve lifting your screen protector. Lifeproof S8 case is the one to get if I was to own this phone.

    • Is the lifeproof case out yet for this phone? Where's the cheapest place to buy (genuine) lifeproof cases? Cheers.

  • Don't get this particular case. Horrible experience with the S7 Edge version of this case, slips off easily. Spigen is an awesome brand though.

    • I have this case on my s7 edge and it is solid, no slippage or movement what so ever. Maybe you got a defective one?

    • Just got mine today in coral blue. Slippery as!

  • What is the best shock proof case you will get for S8? to provide screen protection?

  • +3

    Steve Jobzzz buying a Samsung?

    Btw +1 for spigen quality.

    • +1

      Beat me to it

  • -8

The big question is whether this Case is gonna stop the Samsung Galaxy S8 from catching fire or blowing up!!!!

    • +3

You joined Ozbargain just to leave that comment?

  • Bought nearly Spigen cases from this eBay store and Spigen are my goto for all cases & screen protectors!

  • Bought this Zuslab one for $8 on Sunday and already arrived today. Nice quality from what I can feel. I like clear case so that I can actually see the phone.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/142328460296

Side note: the dimension feels good by holding the case, coming from a current 5X owner. Bit taller and a bit skinner.
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/94742/47946/2017040518…

    • When I bought cover for S8+ from this seller, I accidently bought cover for S8. I emailed them about it, but they had marked item shipped already. Most of sellers create the postage in ebay and ebay mark it shipped. But seller didnt respond in last 3-4 days. Now I will have to send it back, but will fork additional $3 fee they notified today.
Now looking at the clear cover you have linked and purchased, can you advise if your phone feels safe in it. Asking as S8 is slim and it will hit ground hard due to its compact design and metal body compared to few plastic body phones.

The cover you linked is cheap and if it can protect, might be good alternative.

      • I've always used TPU cases on all my phones going all the way back from iPhone 3GS. This one here does have a premium feel in compared to other no-name ebay $2 ones (which I also have sitting right next to me as a spare) but as for drop protection I suppose it's just as good as TPU can get within physics. Personally I have never dropped my phones bad enough to cause any significant damage in the past so it's good enough for me :)

  • For those still looking for a screen protector: the official samsung plastic screen protector fits perfectly with this case ($25 for 2). The store installs it for you and there is no edge lift when compared to glass protectors. No drop in sensitivity/funtionality either.

    • is that for s8 or s8+?

      • s8. The protector is edge to edge. There is only a 1mm gap between the protector and case on the L/R side, and 1.5mm gap on top/bottom which ia pretty ideal.

  • I went to Bondi Samsung store now they advised no Samsung store sells screen protectors
