(PS+) Wipeout 2048 Vita - $2.96

210

Generally don't go for deals showing only one game on sale when there's a bunch on sale in addition to that one, but like, this is ridiculously low for a ridiculously good game. My second favorite in the series, and one of my favorite Vita games period, WipEout 2049 is probably the best in the series, it looks amazing, runs beautifully on the Vita, and is just an all round great game. $2.96 is a steal, especially when the original PS1 WipEout game is also currently on sale, and even it is going for just under 5 bucks.

  • 2048* :)

    • Haha, sorry. I was playing through the 2049 season the other day on the train and it was fresh in my memory. Cheers!

  • Haven't played the Vita but Wipeout on PSP was freakin' awesome.

    • +1

Hells yeah, dude! WipEout Pure was one of my first PSP games, to this day I still pull it out every now and then. As much as I love it to death, this game does shit all over it. I personally still prefer it (and Pulse), but this one is a far better game from a strictly objective standpoint.

  • Why is Sony so scummy that they make you put $10 in your wallet minimum?

    • +1

I have hated that for years. If it helps a little, EB sell $5 PSN vouchers.

  • are the load times better than the physical version?

    • Can't tell you either way, but maybe? Though even still, there's been the odd time I've actually burned through a whole event (like a short time trial or something) in less time than the loading screen, which is ridiculous.

      • i know, i love everything about the game, but the loading times are a major turn off for me.

  • Does this play on Vita TV?

    • No, and it really should because it would benefit from being on the big screen. Can always try your luck with the whitelist though if you've got the right firmware :)

      • Thanks.

I have been reading up on it and I think I might be okay firmware-wise (its been a while since I turned on the Vita TV). I'm just trying to work out whether you can still access PSN if you do it.

Anyway, I didn't realise that the $2.96 was for PSN+ subscribers and the regular price is $7.55. I don't have PSN+.

        • Free trial? I don't know. If you've used the trial too, just remember, booting into online on a PS4 game will usually give you another 2 day free trial as well. I've done that a few times in the past when I was transferring systems or something and only wanted to upload my saves instead of backing up to USB.

        • @TheDukeOfNukem: Thanks for the tip but amazingly I don't own any PS4 games that use online.

  • good price!

  • Yep, found this almost a week ago when I got Gravity Rush 2 as well but didn't want to publicize it until I'd made sure it wasn't an error but I forgot haha, nice work OP.

The game is fantastic, but keep in mind that the WipEout Omega Collection is coming out soon for PS4 and features WipEout HD/Fury + 2048 in 1080p/4K/60fps.

    • Which is why it seemed all the more weird to me that they'd throw this out so cheap so close. If it were me, I'd be leaving this sucker alone for a while and trying to push all the sales of Omega I could.

      • To play devils advocate, they probably assume that people won't want the old version and it will never sell again once the new version is out so they're trying to squeeze it for all it's worth in the meantime. Anyway, worth it just for the intro cinematic alone which won't be in Omega Collection!

        • Fair point actually.

My launch PS4 shit itself today and I dumped it on EB and grabbed a Pro, so I might end up getting Omega anyways now, since it will hopefully be a showcase of what the Pro can do.

  • Superb game if you can put up with the loading times. At $3 it's pretty much a no brainer for any Vita owner in my book.
