Pretty much same as this previous deal but can get extra 10% off if you sign up for the stacksocial marketing emails (can use any throw away email to get the coupon code). The 10% off offer should come up automatically when you first visit the page if it doesn't show up you probably need to delete your browser history and cookies and you also must use a email never used with stack social before.

Since the coupon gets emailed to you you must use a 'genuine' email; saying that https://10minutemail.com seems to work fine for me. ;)

Deal expires just under 16hrs from now but from what I can tell you have 30 days from purchase to activate the service.

My friend whom exclusively uses them says they are excellent and if you read the comments on previous deal they seem overwhelmingly positive, not sure why you say that is there an actual reason you think that?
Is it possible it is user error on your part rather than PIA being a PITA? :p

Well I signed up as my 2y subscription with nordvpn ends in 2 weeks so I will know soon enough but from others comments I am already fairly confident their service is good.

    • +3

I have been a customer of them for the last 2 years.

No problems with them and had the client running on Win7, 10, OSX and IOS.

    • After 2 second google could this be your problem?
      https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/forum/discussion/8848/…

      • No, it didn't launch at all. I tried various settings in compatibility mode, it simply never even launched. The best I got was a window flickering up for about 0.001 seconds. I contacted support to make sure I was using the right download, there was only 1 file anyway for pc from memory.

I don't have my 'subscription' any more to try again, but yeah, don't worry I do actually work in IT and I have no trouble fixing fairly advanced issues normally.

        • +3

It installs and runs fine on Win10x64 here with ipv6 enabled and no needing to run anything in compatibility mode.

Probably an old problem and sounds like they had ipv6 issues with previous versions and you didnt mention if you disabled that? Maybe you cant idk.

There is 5 versions available from September 02, 2016 to the latest, and you dont HAVE to use their own software, as someone that works in IT I assume you know you can use openVPN as well as other options.

    • +1

Well I can attest that it works on Windows 7/10. Using a VPN on a device made to spy on you by the world's largest internet advertising business is pretty hilarious :)

      • I dont own one device made by google

  • +2

Ive used it for 2 years and my time's nearly up lol might have to get this deal.

(seems I have 3 months to go)

When I login it states I have a subscription that renews in 99 days, is that automatic as I paid by paypal And I'm hoping it won't just renew, or should I press the cancel button?

    • I canceled my PIA account soon after i got it to avoid the repeat payment. Here is what it tell me.

      Subscription canceled

Subscribed since: September 13, 2015 10:30 (biyearly payment)
Your subscription expires in: 170 days
You are still able to login for the remainder of the billing period.

      • +5

PIA is a company worth subscribing too though. They are one of the few companies that actually cares about internet privacy (which is the reason you would use a VPN in the first place) and they actively try to inform the public on such matters. Just this week they took out a full page ad in the New York Times to try and inform the American public of the freedoms they were about to lose.

        https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/61ns2w/private_intern…

By all means, use this deal to try it out the VPN service, but don't drop it just because you want to save $20 a year.

    • You will need to cancel on your membership page.

Your subscription will continue until the expiry date and you will also receive an automatic email notification from Paypal advising that the recurring payment has been cancelled.

  • Could some kind person please explain to me how this works in reality? Is it software you install on your computer? Does the licence allow you to install it on multiple computers? Can it be used on your phone somehow? Many thanks

    • +1

      It's a VPN service.

You don't need to use any app to use the service. The app just simplifys the setup process, automatically prevents (most, not all!) IP leaks and has a kill switch (to block internet access should the VPN disconnect).

    • Yes, can be used on multiple devices including phones (I have it on my iPhone).

You open the software, choose a city/country that you want to connect to and then turn it on and browse as you wish.

    • you can use it on 5 devices (PC or phones) simultaneously.

Have been using PIA for a year. Have had server issues but I can say they are very quick to respond to any tech support issues I've had no matter what time of day or night. Have it installed on Windows 8.1, 2 Android 6.0 tv boxes and Samsung S5 and S4.
Really easy to install the app and away you go.

  • +2

I would highly recommend PIA. I have PIA setup on my home internet router and route all traffic over it by default. I also have it setup on my mobile devices including laptops, tablets and phones. It has never failed me either at home in AU, or while travelling around the world.

I can not recommend it highly enough. Well worth the asking price.

    • Do you have problems accessing sites when connected permanently to vpn? Whatever website I try to open I have to type a captcha as they detect suspicious activities from my connection.

      • i never have any problems with the Australian servers, but run into the captchas every now and then using an EU VPN endpoint to view Australian websites. Whirlpool forums does this for example.

I've never noticed it happening frequently enough to bother me.

    • How did you set this up via your router? Do you have one of those open source routers (DDWRT type) that you can flash 3rd party firmware?

      • I'm using PFsense for my home router, but many standard routers have similar functionality. I just find PFsense gives me more control over the connection. I have rules in place that allow some of the devices in my house to circumvent the VPN and go straight out to the internet, some will use the VPN only if it's available and most will only ever use the VPN.

    • I hope you're not routing it through one of their Australian or American datacentres XD

      • +1

Whether or not that's an "acceptable risk" depends on the reason you're using a VPN in the first place. Most people are not trying to avoid state actors, just data retention laws etc.

I can't realistically stop the AFP from seeing what I'm doing, but I think metadata retention is a shitty policy and ISPs can't be trusted with the data.

  • +7

PIA has been an amazing VPN service for me. Recently they developed a Chrome Extension which allows you to VPN your browser and leave other applications on your normal network (Games play online locally, web browser goes through VPN)

    • I agree! I've been using it for years :)

    • Didn't know about this, thanks for the heads up. Just been using the windows and android client and been working flawlessly.

    • For anyone who's interested in a free alternative, just use Opera browser, they offer a free built-in VPN.

Opera most likely doesn't offer the same kind of privacy that PIA does, but for simple stuff like bypassing geo blocking on websites, it works great.

Personally I use PIA for their proxy service, it's great and performs very well.

      • how do u use it to access file hosting sites eg depositfiles with lag/delay or cutoffs?. I been using it for a few days but everytime i use it, i keeps saying i am using a different ip. lags and keeps cutting me off. only thing that puts me off from using pia? please help.

        • Sorry, I have no idea.

  • Do subscriptions automatically renew at the same price after 2 years?

    • no.

      • +1

Yes. Got the email yesterday. Renew for $59 usd

        • $59/yr or was that a continuation of some stacksocial deal? (e.g. $59 for 2 or 3yrs).

Because my Stack deals have tried to renew at the standard rates previously

        • +1

          @supabrudda:
I am unsure of the original purchase. Was 2 years ago. $59 for 2 years to renew.

        • @Berek: nice work. Mine went up to $60/yr to renew.

      • yes. at least mine has. auto-renewing via paypal every year.

Use the code 'digiweek15' to save an extra 15% on VPNs and security apps

    • +1

**************The code above should be put into the title - it works****************

    • +2

      Code above works.
Price comes down to approx AU $70

      • +1

Actually, it's even better. Comes down to 50.96 USD, which is $66.90 AUD.

$33 AUD per year is a REALLY good price. Cheapest I've ever seen for PIA.

    • +1

      Thank you! Worked for me

Does the app handle split tunnel VPN?

I grabbed a lifetime Ivacy deal for $us40 and the Android app had split tunnel option, so you can turn on the VPN for certain apps. e.g. I had BBC Iplayer going via UKvpn, but I was also able to screencast it (since it was only the iPlayer app using the VPN). it'd also be handy for those torrenting or hulu, browsing, etc

I can't say what the speeds are like, as it's only a backup VPN, but that feature alone is worth the $'s IMHO

. "We’re known as London Trust Media, Inc., and we are located in the US, one of the few countries that do not have a mandatory data retention policy. Additionally, since we operate in the country with the strongest of consumer protection laws, our beloved clients are able to purchase with confidence."

    https://torrentfreak.com/vpn-anonymous-review-160220/

Hmm, that's an interesting take. I've never seen the proposition that having a US jurisdiction for a privacy tool was a good thing before. What do you say, Edward?

    • +1

It's important to note that PIA are a primary affiliate of TorrentFreak, so there's definitely some financial incentive for TorrentFreak to mention them positively in their articles. Not that I dispute the truth in their claims.

    • +4

They're one of the view VPN providers that have actually had their privacy claims tested in court, and were unable to provide any data. FYI.

  • +3

For those who want to know
After you purchase it creates an account for you on stacksocial
Your account will show a redemption link and code which you apply at PIA
Your code must be redeemed within 30 days.

  • My subscription doesn't expire until Oct 2017. Anyone knows if this will stack with my existing subscription?

    • +2

No, it won't stack, it will replace it.

I would recommend holding off and waiting. Chances are there will be another PIA deal closer to October better suited for you.

      • Yeah im also in a similar boat, mine expires in July, i think maybe it's too far away to be worth buying now vs. waiting for July specials?

  • Thanks OP..

  • hmm.. my current subscription ends in may…
do I bite at this now?

    • +2

Same here. Definitely worth getting this deal now I reckon — you can buy it and redeem it within 30 days.

  • Perfect timing. My previous 2 year sub was just about up. :)

  • Bought it again. Current expires in 16 days.

  • as posted before. used pia for bit but when i try to download files from file hosting sites, they just cut me off and prevent me because i aint using the right ip. or it lags and cuts off. ended up asking for a refund. how can i fix this stuff because i use file hosters a lot

    • Is the licence tied to an IP address? Sounds odd. You would think it would be tied to a device. That's the way it is with my vpn provider.

      • other than that. usually it lags and doesnt want to connect me to the file it wants to downloads or just downloads sooo damn slow. like depositfiles or something lmao

  • If anyone is looking for a 10% off code for StackSocial, try MISSYOU10 (it may be targeted though, not entirely sure).
    Worked for me just then.

    [update]
Argh too late for me, I didn't see the comment above about the digiweek15 code — use that instead for 15% off!!

Can a mod please please edit the original post to include the digiweek15 code?

    • Please press the report button on a deal in future, I just happened to see your comment as the above commenter reported their comment to be removed. I'll add it now, thanks.

      • +1

Ah I see, will do that in future, thanks!

  • How'd you key in the code? Shows as 82AUD for me in Paypal

    EDIT: My bad. Starts tomorrow.

  • I'm not associated with Android authority in any way, but I purchased VPN secure lifetime subscription for $39US. Note that whilst they do say lifetime, their subscription time says 20 years. http://www.androidauthority.com/deal-vpnsecure-746312/

They have servers in multiple different countries. I don't use it to bypass any region locks but the location of the VPN server gets picked up by speed test. Works fairly well for what I want it for. Speedwise, the average speed when I use their Melbourne server is around 19mbps down/3mbps up. When I'm not connected to the VPN I get 70mbps down/20mbps up consistently, so there is some speed drop. Streaming 1080p videos is fine and stutter free but the speed drop can affect 4k streams.

Haven't used PIA but I would assume most of these VPN services are quite similar so why not buy a lifetime deal.

  • Can you use this to get US Netflix? What other use is there besides BT?

    • Sadly, PIA is blocked by US Netflix

  • I signed up to PIA last week for $52 for 12 months so this deal would have saved me some $. My experience with them has been good so far and worthwhile for $1 a week.

    • Yeah, to be honest they're easily worth $1 a week. But this price is excellent value!

  • Perfect timing. Due to renew in a few days.

PIA works perfectly for me on multiple devices.

    • Hi guys, the deals says "Offer good for new Private Internet Access customers only". Seeing that I'm an existing customer (with my subscription expiring in 15days); do I need to set up a new account? OR can I renew it using my existing account? Please advise. Ta

      • +1

They don't really have the concept of "accounts" as such. How it works is, when you sign up you get a username and password. When your subscription expires, that username and password stop working.

You can log into the client portal using your username and password, but it's only valid for as long as your subscription is.

My recommendation: Buy this now, and when you sub expires in 15 days, activate the license. It's valid for 30 days from purchase. Just remember to update your username/pass in all devices afterwards.

      • Don't know about PIA but the Stacksocial Purevpn subscription I got to replace an expiring Purevpn subscription only worked when I used a different email address.

        • How much was your subscription to Purevpn, tossing up btwn it and PIA

        • @dazzza:

US$62.10 for 5 years. Suppposed to be lifetime. Purevpn have set it as 5 years which I am happy with. Stacksocial says, I think, from memory, that you can reset it after 5 years to get another 5 years, or words to that effect. I strongly doubt it and I won't be trying to.

  • Good deal. Great VPN.

  • Does this add onto the current subscription? Still have a majority of the year left on mine.

    • Please read. You have to create a new subscription.

      • +1

lol, ops missed that part but still, doesn't really answer my question.

I currently have 1 year sub, if i use this code, do i get 3 year sub?

both editting at the same time… lol

  • Been with them over a year and have just re-subbed for another, PIA are really good!

  • Sweet. Thanks, OP. I really need this.

  • +1

    "Coupon not available"

    Expired i'm guessing ?

  • +1

Where do you apply the discount code?
EDIT. Ah, just found it - and now getting the "Coupon not available" msg…

    • Same here, must be expired :(

      • MISSYOU10 still works though for 10%.

  • MISSYOU10 worked, thank you!

  • I have been using PIA for two years (and just let it elapse). I have found it often doesn't VPN me properly lately (last 6 months?), it says it has but when I check My IP on various sites they still point to my real IP address.

Usually after that I check and there is an updated version of PIA they did not tell me about. I install that and 95% of the time it then gives me a real VPN but it fails often enough to make me check. Sometimes it tells me I have a VPN via a country I did not choose.

It never tells/reminds me of updates either. Does anyone else get reminders with them? Does anyone else check they have a secure VPN actually running? Does anyone else check if their DNS leaks?

I have never been worried about speed through them as my rural Telstra ADSL is too slow to notice. Bring on my NBN (probably wireless) I say for some speed so I can complain about slow VPN's :)

  • Can i torrent on this.
    Like Popcorn Time and stuff
