But someone here wrote that the remastered version is not the free version…. hmmmm might be just an update to be compatible with the remastered version…
I watched a youtube video about the release, and i do believe you are correct, it seems the free version may not be the remastered version as the new patch allows the remastered version to be able to switch between legacy and remastered on the fly. And the youtuber mentioned that people playing the old starcraft can still play with remastered versions. so seems like there will be 2 concurrent versions around.
This free version is NOT the remastered version.
The free version will be the same as the original base game plus brood wars but patched 1.18.
The remastered will have the newer resolutions and HD graphics. And yes, both versions are designed to be compatible with each other for online play.
My guess is that Blizzard know that people will get hooked on the game when it's given out for free but will want the HD upgrade so their eyes won't bleed from pixelated sprites on current monitors.

Yep, there are too many bugs.
Patch 1.18 will need to be pushed back at least another week from now, but the PTR will remain available for free.

Application had an unexpected errror when trying to open starcraft.exe. Also Battle net file also quits before it installs everything. I've unpacked all the files so I don't know what's going on.

Never happened - a lesson in only posting a deal when it's available, perhaps there should be a section for a maybe /too good to be true/watch this space. 400+ votes for nothing (so far) only TA gets a pass on that…Justifiably in my opinion - he posts so much every now and then he's going to miss the mark.

Reading the comments, "Mac is not supported in this patch" which is a shame.. they haven't ruled it out totally I noticed but no actual date when they'd release a mac version..

Does anyone know why when I try and start the game i.e. Starting Starcraft Brood War…I get the error "something went wrong while downloading the required update BLZBNTBTS0000004A". Is anyone else getting this message after unzipping and installing?
Unsinstall starcraft and delete everything (i.e. battle.net hidden files in c:/programdata) except your downloaded maps.

It's very time consuming to make a good RPGMMO game, you're right about "never gonna happens" coz no one want to invest in alot of time to make a game that %99.99 will be get sued by Blizzard.

Anybody know a fix? I can run StarCraft II perfectly fine so not sure what they are on about with the video card drivers.
Did you update your graphics card driver and check if it can handle OpenGL 2.1 (you can download "GPU caps viewer") ?

Launch GPU Caps Viewer and see if your video card can support OpenGL 2.1

In GPU Caps Viewer, under OpenGL, it says "OpenGL 1.1 (GDI Generic with 2 ext.)"
Would this mean I cannot play StarCraft 1 on my notebook? Surely that can't be true!

Intel HD 5500 is supposed to support OpenGL 3 or 4 (and below).
@jutsu: Thanks. I've tried both automatic and manual update of the driver I downloaded from Intel. When I try to install manually, it says that "Windows has determined that you have the latest driver" and the process aborts.
I've also contacted Blizzard support to see if they can fix it.
