Will the original StarCraft Anthology support widescreen? I think the pre 1.18 patch didn't, and I am sure the remastered version will be supporting it. Not too sure whether 1.18 will bring that to the original ones as well. It'd more than likely do that, since Remastered version has sidescreen support. Hmmm, eh, only 2 more days to go I suppose.

So the answer is a resounding yes: it does support widescreen — notice you can see more of the 'battlefield' in the second screenshot.
The remaster isn't the one that's going for free though. The original one is. The original one is getting the 1.18 patch instead and going free. They are releasing a revamped 4K texture version as remastered version. They mention that 1.18 patch will have compatiability updates and such, but I didn't find any mentions on widescreen.
Ah thats right, the patch is made to support newer OS, some bug fixes and new anti-cheat tech, but that's it, the original game will not get better support for WS resolutions.
Well, its still a good deal nonetheless, the original SC + Broodwar is a timeless classic and it going free is a pretty big milestone.
@scrimshaw: That's kinda weird though, since what I've been reading tells me that you will be able to compete with people with remastered version. Maybe that article is wrong, but if that article is right, then people who didn't buy remastered version will be disadvantaged.

@clubhonda: I wasn't too good with the control, my APM was horrid and I could barely use the keyboard shortcuts. I had to just make sure that I do zealot rush, if that didn't go well, pull back and gradually move towards dragoon, choose wherever from there onward. Eh, I know the names of the strategies because I played a lot back in the days with my "friends" who were better than me, but not even close to pro level.
I heard protoss in SC1 is kinda meh if you go pro-level. My favourite guy is YellOw, but I think that's more because he was one of the most successful person outside SC league. His career is a meme (his existence seems to be bound to the number 2).

The devs will more than likely vote Apple though because Apple users spend money on apps at a far greater rate than anywhere else mobile and pirate apps at a rate far less than Android.

The custom games on sc2 are missing something that the sc1 custom games had which kept me up playing all night, maybe it's the simplicity of the layout, and the coloured units
Nostalgia.. for the pictures the graphics the unit sounds the atmosphere the whatever it is it's called nostalgia and it is a strong feeling that no new games can really replicate nowadays for obvious reasons unless they take the exact copy replicate path but up the graphics or visuals or gameplay somehow with modern new mechanics.. this is kinda rare for old games especially blockbusters such as blizzard because they are the top in their game and nobody wants to even try and go toe to toe with them.
Would have been nice to have an alternative or alternatives to blizzard but alas they do not simply exist full stop no returns go directly to jail do not pass go sayonara
They are missing developers. Any developer worth anything would already be building on another platform such as iOS, Android, Unity, These weren't around in the glory days of SC and wc3. These new engines/platforms generally have better distribution channels, flexibility in terms of what you can build, monetary rewards, larger market reach(IE you don't need the base game in a now highly competitive game market) and so forth.

Brilliant. despite all the advantages of 4K and curved screens, this, Descent, Heretic [1] and to a lesser extend Quake are the ones I have played where as well as ` realism' in the visuals and sound, the developers paid as much attention to ambience. I could get involved in RFTS, Doom, EOTB and the warcraft and command & conquer series, but immersed in Heretic and Starcraft.

So how will the game look in a high res? Will everything be tiny? Because that's what happens with 2D games. If they keep the FOV the same, then you're going to get stretched and pixellated graphics.

I was hoping they'd convert the game into SC2's engine, improve the pathfinding, but keep all the unit stats the same as original. That way I would play it again.
There is no point calling this a remaster. It's just a modern port to make it playable in 2017. Yes the original is playable still, but at 640x480, you're not going to want to touch it.

You can't call that intentional. They didn't deliberately give you terrible pathfinding so that you would micromanage every step to send your troops.

I wouldn't have minded if they fixed the AIs so that a new tactics and basically rebalancing could happen. That said, I am getting the feeling that remastering is more trying to get to nostalgia.
The original SC and BW was just awesome. SC2 was nothing like the original and I much rather the original over SC2.
So I am happy with what they are doing, I rather them just keep the game the way it is and simply update it, fix errors, improve multiplayer internet and the res.
Changing the graphics and engine into the SC2 would just ruin it.
Full res with redrawn sprites is the literal definition of remaster.

@Macgyver: SC and BW were indeed great. But they are very outdated now, especially in the looks department. The terrain looks extremely flat.
It had a better story than SC2, but SC2's in between missions customization is awesome. The missions are very fun also.
I found SC1 to be a lot better. SC2 just wasn't the same nor as fun I reckon.
