  • anyone know if I can sign up to a lower tier plan, and move it later on keeping the 25% discount?

Or if you sign up to a high tier plan, can you move to a lower one?

  • Awhile ago on Ozbaragin they had a similar deal which if asked live chat it would work, in currently on live chat and the upgrade is possible since you are paying extra, also since the code for discount should work combined.

    • You got the deal as an existing customer?

  • @danny1213 can I do datapool ing between post and pre paid? I want to use the data between my mobile and my mobile broadband (data pooling) but i dun want another postpaid account. Thanks

Optus is the worse Internet/Mobile company in the world! If you read through product reviews, whirlpool forums, Optus communities, for both their services, you will see extremely bad customer service and feedback. They trick and scam customers into these plans and hope no one backs out of it when their service is poor. Especially for those vulnerable that don't know about the TIO! For Eg, Optus's infrastructure supports 1,000,000 subscribes, but they subscribe triple the amount and the network becomes a bottleneck. They don't do any back end upgrades or exchange improvements, this is their marketing scam to make everyone switch. I switched to Vodafone recently and have been very happy with the service. Research beforehand, especially when it's on a 24 month contract!

  • Hey y'all.

I'm currently on an Optus postpaid plan which expired last month, but somehow I can just keep going on with that plan by paying each month what I did when the 12-month plan was active.

I am hoping to change to the $120 (is $160 without discount) plan with the iPhone 7 plus (24-month contract). Is there someway I can still do this (even tho I am still a current Optus customer and have an account with them)? If so, how? I don't think I have time to port my number to a different carrier and then back to Optus in just 4 remaining days. Is it possible to still sign up to this deal with a new number even tho I am an Optus customer with my existing number?

Also, one of the extra's included with the plan I want says there is unlimited streaming of Netflix without it counting towards my data used. Is this true? How lenient are they realistically with this before capping me off?

Thanks so much in advance :)

Cancel your account and pay the remaining service charge to end it. Then go online and activate the deal with a new number. Simple and it possible.

Netflix is unmetered at sd stream. It is unlimited data usage if played via your mobile phone as I'm currently on the old 120 Dollar 20 GB plan. Will be interesting next month with Samsung s8 and deX dock plugged to a TV. Unmetered Netflix on a big screen.

      • Interesting idea. I went into the critical info for the fair use policy for Netflix and it said if you display Netflix using Apple TV or equivalents then somehow they can charge it to your data use. Wouldn't the deX dock count as displaying Netflix on a screen other than your phone screen?

        • The DeX dock is like a display adapter like the Nintendo switch dock. I'm pretty sure the netflix data is going through your phone not through a separate device like Apple TV or chromecast.

I could be wrong but let see the official s8 announcement this week. If I'm right then the DeX dockwould be heaven for me once my 12 month is up for the note 8.

Unmetered Netflix on the big TV at sd quality. Better than squinting my eyes.

        • Not sure if miracasting reduces quality of picture…but i can't see how the telco could possibly know you are doing that.

  • Well i just signed up on the 70/month for 25gb data….. dont think i can push it to 120 but if it was 90 i would pounce

Was just on chat to the sales team, they wouldn't offer any discounts/promotions for existing customers to upgrade to this plan. Not that I expected them to, just thought I'd try.

edit: on a side note, I wonder how hard it would be to sign up to a brand new service and just move my existing optus number to a $2 telstra sim and park it there with call forwarding set up…

  • Really annoys me that existing customers are penalised for being existing customers, and therefore aren't eligible for these offers

    • be a pain but could port out and port back in?

  • A great deal, pity optus is an unusable mess up in Thornbury and Abbotsford where I spend the majority of my time, they've never worked those areas out.

  • Is it worth holding out for the Samsung S8 to be released on 29/03??

  • +1

If I want to move two numbers over onto the same account (so, shared data pool), can I get the 25% off both of them?

If 4G speeds aren't required another option would be the Jeenee Mobile $79 for 90GB "month to month".

Both Optus network but yes Jeenee Mobile is 3G and Optus is 4G.

Don't flame me just putting another option out there for those who may want to aviod 24mth contracts.

I have no experience of Jeenee Mobile, I am personally locked into a 24mth Telstra contract and would
love to get out of it.

    • Why when Telstra is at least one of the best providers out there

Sure it's down 4 or 5 days a year for the whole day but apart from this comedically poor network uptime it has the best coverage once you leave the city

      • Just jealous of the prepaid mobile deals out there.

Will probably swap to Boost at the end of our contract
as we live in Cairns and need the coverage.

I won't be giving up my 100/40 NBN for a home internet
via 3G or 4G any time soon.

  • I just talked to Optus online consultant, He said I could definitely port out and back in to earn this discount. However, he could not tell me exact dates for this and told me to have a chat with Service team which is unfortunately closed right now. Anyone has knowledge on this?

  • Hopefully this forces Telstra to offer better plans. I can only get 4G and even then can only just get service with Telstra (I'm less than 10 KMs out of a large town as well), last I checked the Optus service here was poor to nonexistent so I can't jump on this offer :(

    no ip7 red colour ?

  • Awesome deal, would recontract, but unfortunately it hasn't been 12 months for me yet (signed up for the s7 plus 7gb for 85 bucks - 20 bucks deal which was posted here last June/July).

    • +1

It does not need to be 12 months unless you want to hand your device back to Optus, terminate your service and sign up for this deal.
What you can do in this case is paying the rest of device cost (you can keep you phone), move your number to Optus prepaid, then sign up for this deal.

      • That's awesome, thanks mate.

        Gonna look into that now.

You're welcome. Use Optus live chat and double this once again with them before you proceed further. :) Hope you can do it!

@ltvo3: I'd be careful if you're planning on porting to Optus prepaid then signing up for this offer. If you read the original post for 25% off all plans, alot of people are saying its taken them 3-4 days for their number to clear on system as eligible for this offer after swapping to prepaid. Because the offer ends on 31st you could be cutting it very fine and you might cancel your other contract & pay out your phone for nothing. It might be done in time but just be wary that there is a chance the prepaid port might not be completed in time before the offer ends. Read some of the comments on the other post about 25% off all optus plans. There is a lot of people speaking about porting to prepaid.

@cinnamon85: I thought it is only the case for port out and port in. Anyway, I am going to pass this time since my devices repayment is still like $1000 which is too much for me now. Yeah you are right, every one should consider this point before deciding to swap to prepaid.

  • It feels pretty nuts to sign a contract for 12 months- thats $1,440. You're preventing yourself from any other amazing deals that come up for a year. And the way things are heading, mobile deals are only getting cheaper and soon we'll probably see unlimited. Just my 2 cents

I just have a talk with online Optus team member. He confirmed that, for those who are on Optus postpaid plans, you can cancel your postpaid service, pay the rest of device cost, move your number to Optus prepaid, then sign up for this deal. I really want to do this too. However, my device repayment would be $1000 for iphone 7 plus 128GB. Thus, I'll pass this time.

Interesting developments - with these type of quotas, the NBN in its current (watered down) shape will be overtaken and made obsolete before they finish constructing half of it. I get the same bandwidth on 4G as I do on my FTTN connection.

Just a note to anybody who was stuck on this deal (that I actually posted). I was just on the Optus chat and they're upgrading my account to this new $160 plan, but they're letting my discounts carry forward. It's not cancelling the plan and starting a new one, so I don't have to pay out the phone (would've been $750ish), but I also don't get a new phone. They said my bill would be $160 less 10% student discount less $20 = $124p/m. My contract length shouldn't change, and I'm also free to downgrade my plan should I find this $160 plan to be too much.

I'll believe all this when I see my bills, but that's what I've been promised anyway haha.

I know it's not as good of a deal as porting out, paying out the S7, signing up using the 25% off, then selling the new phone to recoup the cost of paying out the S7, but I was too late when I realised I needed to port out (27th March), and at least this way I'm free to downgrade later on and I'm not locked in for a further 2 years.

    I'll take it.

    • Could you PM me with details on how you approached them for your offer?
(what exactly did you ask, and let me know if it works when you check your billing details online)
I would love to give it a try, since I'm on the same plan ;-)

  • Anyone use the data share sims? Beyond the initial $5/sim is there any ongoing fee?

    • +1

Nope. They are good in that way.

      • cool - do you know if there is a limit on how many sims you can have in this way?

        • Not sure - I just have the extra one for my ipad on my $100 a month 20 gb plan.
