        • @OnlinePred:

Not sure, only way for this to be the case is if the app uses different data sources… But in theory you could still use it on a Chromecast through the app?

        • @dyl: I don't know, I have only read the terms on conditions and it states this. I know they can tell as when I was in the U.S and enabled my wifi hotspot, I got a text from the telco saying wifi hotspot incurs more fees.

        • @OnlinePred:

Not the case with Netflix. I use the app on my laptop or PC using the phone as a hotspot and data isn't counted. Watching in HD too.

Much better than watching on the small screen.

        • @OnlinePred:

This is roaming charges, nothing to do with the wifi hotspot. It's not available overseas.

  • +2

iphone 7 plus 32gb is included on the 100gb plan (with this you probably have enough data to realistically use cloud storage for everything) or 128gb for $6 more on the F&F deal. So even if you just wanted the plan, just sell the phones off and save ~$1k?

  • No iphone 7 or 7 plus in product RED. Nice deal though with unlimited international roaming 👍

    • +4

      It comes out later today!

      • Wonder if they could apply student discount on top of the employee discount…?

    • international roaming is greyed out, need rep to confirm it is included

  • +1

    awesome plans!

I have a question for anybody who can answer it, I'm interested in getting a phone along with the plane.. from a purely resale value stand point, would it not be better to go for say the 172 per month iPhone 7 plus 256gb plan as its only 12 dollars for the phone? which works out to be 288 at the end of the plan? on top of the 160 for the plan? since its 25% off?

    • +7

      …along with the plane

Airbus or Boeing? What plane are you after?

    • +2

Well I did a quick ebay search for sold new listings. Difference between 32GB and 256GB model new is about $400. So yeah for $288 it's worth it. I did that anyway

  • +1

Thats an awesome deal… tempted to switch from big T

  • -1

7 years ago when I stayed in Netherlands and Germany for my Master degree, their Iphone 4 plan is 29 euros (roughly 50AUD at that time) unlimited data with 16gb phone, actually me and my roomates share the mobile internet all the time and we dont even need a cable internet, oh miss that…cannot imagine why Oz now still cannot provide unlimited data..feeling not as a developed country. LOL

    • +7

I'd say this has a fair bit to do with it…

"Australia is approximately 7,741,220 sq km, while Netherlands is approximately 41,543 sq km. Meanwhile, the population of Australia is ~23 million people (6 million fewer people live in Netherlands)."

      • -2

Yes that's true, but I mean they at least can try to provide some unlimited data for some specific area such as Sydney region. Still doable but as Ronnknee said, they just want to make more money, as here they squeeze the money from us strategically step by step (3gb yeas ago to 10 dollar more for 5gb, then 10gb today). Cannot feel the sincerity from those telecom giants. Sigh, hope to get it soon. :)

        • I guess as you know in AU, the mobile number or charges are not discriminated based on suburb, city or even state. So giving unlimited option to Sydney and something else for others based on their city/area is not applicable here.

      • +1

Our population is over 24.2 Million now.

    • +3

It's mainly because Australia is massive compared to Netherlands (7.7 km^2 vs 0.04 km^2) which means it requires more telecom infrastructure to placed around the country. More infrastructure also means more maintenance which means more cost to the company.

I mean, it's certainly doable to offer unlimited data since all the infrastructure has already been established. They just don't because it makes them more money.

      • You also have to understand that they have to make their money some how. A business has to be profitable somehow to be a business or else you'd call them.all charities.

The economy is where you live you cant compare apples to apples… because if you can then why not make every country's currency the same because it means nothing then.

Also its funny how people compare it to places like india. Lol…. i wont even bother going there.

        • Yes I understand. Hence:

They just don't because it makes them more money.

More money -> Cover costs and make profit.

      • -1

:D what you can say about Russia then? Biggest country! And almost less populated in the world! The cheapest tariffs for unlimited LTE plans in the world! I think all these comparisons should be about human material and not about square kilometers :DDD

  • +4

You can get a free phone thrown in at that price and data volume. s7 edge for example.

    • It's hardly free, if you're outlaying $120 per month. Unless I'm missing something.

      • +3

The deal posted is 120 per month for 100gb data.. You might as well have a phone thrown in (if you are hanging around for 24 months that is) sell the phone and you have reduced the total cost by 600 - 700

        • +1

And it'll be unlocked as post-paid phones are unlocked by default.

  • I used to brag about my 135 dollar reduced down to 95 dollar 20GB + Iphone 6 s plus plan.

    Now it's 100gb.

You can usually negotiate the price down for most plans.

  • I'm currently on an Optus plan and was thinking about porting out to sign up to this deal (with the 25% off).

Apparently it's been taking 3-4 days for the optus system to recognise people porting out so that they can sign up for the deal - which will put me close to the 31 March cut off.

Would it be at all possible to sign up as a new service now to get the 25% off and then contact optus later and get them to port my number to this new service?

    • Unfortunately not sorry =(

      • All good.

Reckon the system would update in time if I port out to Telstra today? Is there any way at all to get optus to manually 'refresh' my number on their end?

I'm trying to think of all possibilities haha

        • Didn't work for my brother so I can't guarantee =(

        • @danny1213: Damn, would really hate to have to pass up on this, such a good deal!

        • @danny1213: Did he just do it? or in the past? because from now to when deal ends is 4 more days. I still think he can do it. I am not sure

  • If it's nearer to 100/mth I will pounce on it immediately.

And any rep can explain why International Roaming Talk and Text is greyed out in the list?

    • Are you looking at the $100 15gb plan? The $130 and $160 plans aren't greyed out for me.

      • +1

I just checked myself. It says $120 with discount. $160 per month. 100GB etc but the unlimited internatinoal roaming talk & text is greyed out.

Yet if I go to the normal optus page it is not.

It is as if the 25% discount means you forfeit this part of the plan inclusions?

        Can anyone else advise?

        • That's what it is showing to me, greyed out on that International Roaming Talk and Text

        • @sayako: Hmm, mine is greyed out too now. Strange.

        • yep seeing it greyed out too. hopefully some calcification on this one.

though the 1.5gb of roaming data isn't greyed out which is strange.

    • +1

Get it with an included phone at $0 extra, then sell the phone.
It should work out to under the $100/month figure you're after.

      • +1

I'm going to pay $6 per month for the 128GB 7 Plus.

$126 per month minus a conservative $1200 (probably get closer to $1300) = $76 per month.

        • Yeah it works out quite handily if you can get a decent price for the handset.
I'm tempted to do the switch from Telstra to Optus because of so much data at the same cost!

        • +1

          @unco:

I'd do the same in a heartbeat if you could share data. I just have no need for 100gb.

  • 100GB is amazing for a mobile plan…

  • Last time I tried an optus 4G plan for internet the speeds were rubbish. Thats the only thing holding me back from this fantastic deal.

    • I've been getting 70mbps in my home! Better than my 100/40 NBN plan

    • I've just done a speedtest on my Optus 4G connection and got 15Mbps down/5.87Mbps up at Blacktown which is pretty good and reproducible around most places (>90% I'd guess).
The fastest I've ever gotten was 131Mbps in Wollongong.
Optus has improved and improving to the point that Telstra is no longer the fastest everywhere.
The tower at your place might be too far maybe? And how long ago did you last try?

      • I tried it last year. Struggled to get 5/3mbps. I'm in glen Waverley vic, and the tower is about 1km away mostly over an unpopulated flat reserve, so should be pretty good topography as far as 4g signal goes.

  • Bugger just signed up to transfer my prepaid to the sim only plan, might have considered a phone upgrade too had I seen this last night!

    • +1

It only came out today sorry haha

      • Haha or rather waited until today to go onto a sim only plan.

        • +1

Call em up and see if you can cancel. They've let me do it before. Especially since you're signing up for another plan anyway

        • @Ploix: thanks for the tip .. in the process of getting it cancelled now. Just waiting for the number to go back onto prepaid.

        • @rmk: yay I'm helping

  • -8

bahahahah too bad iphone limits app downloads to 100meg on mobile data!!!!!!!!!!!!

    wtf?!

    • Not sure why this got so many downvotes but this IS a significant issue for people planning on ditching a home fixed broadband connection, as it means you will never be able to do IOS updates or new downloads if they're over 100MB as IOS only allows this on wifi.

  • -7

$100 i be that after the first few months people will be locked into the plan and only using under 10gig!

    • What's your point?

      • the point is, its really not worth getting………

        • +2

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

        • +1

          @hashtagbargain:

i provided valuable insight and hindsight, some people will consider it and look threw the 100gb and realise that im right and wont need it but will end up still paying for it.

          you are welcome.

  • Good mate Daniel providing the goods. :)

  • Daniel is too Popular! hah looks like limit is reached!

  • I have optus broadband and it's like living in the dark ages compared to NZ and the UK. So I just always keep my phone wifi switched off. I'm thinking this might be good to switch to instead of broadband as it's so much faster.

  • I hate how they give the unmetered stuff with more GB. Isn't the whole point of having more GB so that you can stream stuff and not worry? Since getting unmetered Google Play Music, I only use 5GB of my 10GB allowance.

  • Very good. I will sign up to this plan at the end of 12 months on my contract. I can nearly go off my unlimited data speed limited vividwireless lte bb by that time. Unmetered Netflix and Spotify is heaven

  • +3

Why don't they offer this to recontracts as well? I just find it so stupid that their own customers are the ones that are left out. Not cool.

    • +1

Recontracts dont pump up customer numbers, especially with financial year end optus ending in 4 days

      • maybe we try disconnect our services today/tomorrow :)

    • Completely agree. Poor treatment of existing customers, and hardly facilitates loyalty. Just means I'm far more likely to jump ship when the competitor's plans come into play

  • my plan doesnt end for another 6 months…but this plan is awesome !! what should i do?

    • wait till off plan.

  • +3

locking yourself for 2 years at over $100 p/m for data you may not end up using seems like a risk.
Unless you are cancelling your home broadband..

  • I'm currently on $130 plan for iPhone 7 plus 256gb since last year September, am I able to get the extra data sine I'm only getting 20gb?

    • this is prime example as to why you shouldn't be locked into a contract.
Who knows 6 months from now vodafone or another carrier will offer "unlimited" for the same price, or better still 50gb for $50?

And I highly doubt you will be given any extra data because.. they aren't obliged to.

      • Tend to agree. As sweet as this sounds, the 24 month contract is big consideration IMO. That's a long period.

I've been waiting to move off a Voda contract for awhile now, which I took up awhile back as I desperately need a new phone. I opted to stay with Voda due to shared plans. I checked again earlier and the contract is for another 14 months!!!

  • Got one, thanks!

  • Can we cancel if the speeds aren't up to our expectations?

And can we get a second data Sim to share the plan data on another device?

  • +3

If using for home, vivid wireless still wins with unlimited data for $89.

    I used 850gb last month

  • +1

So I'm on Optus $120 postpaid plus plan iPhone 7plus contract, I have increased pool data to 20gb which I'm paying $130, will Optus let me do an upgrade which is paying extra? AND and also use this promo since it is an upgrade? From 20gb- 100gb is a huge difference…

So I would be paying around the same and getting a better deal! Makes no sense to rip of current customers.

    • +1

Welcome to being on a contract, and an existing Optus customer. That's how it works normally isn't it? Go on a contract, then get screwed cuz a new deal came out. On top of that loyalty is not rewarded.

      • It depends, some companies will let you break a contract without penalty fees to extend it - as long as you are staying with them for longer.

        It doesn't hurt to ask.

  • Huh, crazy.

I wonder how many people are on this plan complaining that they cannot afford to buy a house?

    • It is crazy, I bet people who getting this plan, have $60/+ per month NBN plan as well :)
100gb on mobile plan, only way to use it up would be watching youtube at 1080.
