Logitech Harmony Smart Control with simple all in one remote and smartphone app support for $69.99 USD + $9.48 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to Australia.

It worked out to be $108 AUD.

Same price as per my old post back in November. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/278895

I use mine to control various devices in a centrally located server rack (Tivo / Mac Mini / Telstra TV / Binary hdmatrix switch / Sony hifi / Panasonic TV). It comes with a secondary IR transmitter which I spliced in to a UTP run to get it to power on/off a television in another part of the house.

The main negative for me (with my centralized setup) is that the hub cannot be used to run concurrent 'activities' at the same time without some ugly workarounds. For example activity 'Watch TV1' maybe associated with TV1 and device Tivo. I would have liked to be able to create activity 'Watch Movie TV2' associated with device TV2 and device Mac Mini. Even though these are separate devices, the Hub won't allow 'Watch TV1' and 'Watch Movie TV2' to be used at the same time….

I ended up buying a second!

  • Sweet. Great find - used the referral link so congrats to someone random… ;-)

I also have one already (sounds like a very very similar setup), so the second will be used for the separate 'games room'. As an aside, I have connected the existing one up to my vera/z-wave system, and using ha-bridge and google home I can now do things like say "hey google: turn off the television" and it does it! It's like living in the future…. ;-)

    • It's like living in the futureā€¦. ;-)

      I lived there tomorrow…

"Usually ships within 1 to 2 months."

    Huh?

  • I'm happy with my Logitech 650. Is this a worthy upgrade?

    • +1

I prefer this Smart Hub version over the 650.

      • No LCD so battery on the remote lasts for months
      • Don't need to aim the remote - the hub sends the IR signal
      • Can also control the hub from your tablet or phone
      • Smaller remote is nicer to hold, looks much better too IMO
      • I prefer the 650. My smart remote would lose connection whenever my wifi was reset.

  • Good find. This is the best Harmony remote Logitech has made, IMO.

    • I thought the Elite was better?

      • The Elite is more expensive but IMO worse

        • bulkier, heavier, uglier
        • only a few days per charge
  • My comment from a previous Smart Control post:

"The remote feels great in the hand and the button layout is excellent, however, it does not have back-lit keys, a dedicated help button, or a screen.

This means you can never be sure what activity you are in (unless you check the phone app), and if something does go wrong, you will have to use the app on a phone or tablet to use the help."

    • Never had an issue. Most will know what activity is on based on whats on the TV. You can always just click the activity button again. If that activity is active nothing will happen, otherwise it'll swap to it.

  • Great find OP. Thanks

  • Any idea if this works with lifx light bulbs?

    • Yes, they work great with LIFX. They work great, and very easy to set up for different activities. You can pick Colour, brightness etc for each activity.

The newer version of the remote can control the lights independently to an activity which is great, turn on/ off, change brightness etc without using your phone.

lol according to Amazon, this Logitech remote is frequently bought with "Quilted Northern Ultra Plush Double Rolls Toilet Paper"…

    I don't want to know why…

  • I think the refurb option, which gives you the hub as well, is probably an even better deal @ $97 USD.

I got a new hub recently off of Amazon, but it had no remote for about the same.

    • In the description: "included Harmony Hub lets you control devices hidden behind cabinet doors or walls, including game consoles such as PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360". If it isn't included then Amazon would refund or (based on my experience) more likely send another to you.

      • Nah, I bought just the hub so it's not meant to have a remote.
But I might buy a remote at some point down the track.

  • This includes the hub right? Just not shown in the pictures.

    • +1

      That's how I read it.

    • +1

yes includes the hub. Remote on its own is $25

    • Thanks ordered one.

  • Shows up as $102 for me… Has this expired..?

  • Damn. Yes. Expired. Have one and want another 2. OP - Didn't see your November post. Is there a way to get notified if this deal comes up again?

    • +1

      use camelcamelcamel

      • Thanks for the tip. Will do.

  • I have the 650 and with the lcd I can easily choose which device to control, how do I change the device on this remote without using activity or phone app?

  • @mshannon You can set up your Harmony to allow both TVs to be used at the same time, so that it doesn't turn one off when you want to use the other one.

For each device (TVs, TiVo, Mac Mini) use the Harmony app to Edit the device, choose Power Settings, and select "Keep device always On, but switch Off when off button is pressed".

That way, watching your TV2 activity won't turn off your TV1 etc, so you can use both simultaneously. Be aware that pressing the Off button on the remote will still turn off everything though.

    • Thanks Nam for the suggestion.

The main issue is that you cannot use separate activities concurrently.

For example, TV1 I want to be using the Tivo, and TV2 I want to be using the Telstra TV.

The hub only recognizes one activity at a time - so to change channels / fast-forward etc, it would be triggering against the 'currently' activity activity.

Certainly for watching the same activity on both devices, your approach would work perfectly.

      cheers

      • True, but you can also change the current activity. Since the devices are all turned on already, tapping the other activity just changes the buttons to the other control scheme for those devices.

You can also tap on one of the Devices list to control that device only, without changing the current activity (though you'd have to tap the activity again to get its control scheme back).

And sometimes it's just easier to use a second remote :-)

  • Has anyone had this shipped yet? Still nothing here :(

    • Mine arrived today. All good - brand new, with hub and controller as expected.

      • Mine came too, cheers!
