  • What does everyone think of the Switch? I am waiting for the next Mario/Splatoon before jumping on but was wondering if it is worth getting it now?

    • +1

Personally I think you should you wait till Spaltoon or Mario comes out as the deals will probably be better.

However, if you're an avid Zelda fan but can't spare much time to play at home (e.g. i spend 2 hours+ each day on public transport) then I'd get it right now.

      • +2

I thought I was the only one playing Zelda on the train. The motion control aiming is a bit hard sometimes ;)

        • Turn them off…

    • +4

I'm waiting for mario, there's really not much to play on it atm.

      • +2

        source?

      • What would be the reason a recall to be issued?

      • +9

Yeah two doesn't count as many.

It appears that a majority of users are not experiencing these issues.

And "speculation on the internet" is hardly a good source.

        • +1

Not to mention, the screen scratch issue is just an oversight. Not really a 'fault'.
Include a 3c screen protector in future, or spend the $5 like I have and order a glass one.
          Solved.

The joycon problem is fixed for free by Nintendo by placing a cube of conductive foam over the antenna.
          Solved.

Both issues they SHOUDLN'T have to deal with, but both issues EASILY fixed.

        • @MasterScythe: Any more info / link about the joycon problem/fix? I get occasional problems with left joycon when playing wireless.

        • @MasterScythe: Thanks! Seems like I'll be calling them up in the near future. (Although it is somewhat tempting to do that repair myself, I'd rather they do it)

        • @abb:
Well they're SUPER easy to open.

And conductive foam is single dollars from Jaycar. So you can try a DIY, then if it still faults, take the foam out and send it back.

        • @abb: I'd move the system to the front of a cabinet or above before sending it in just to test.

But yeah send it in if it continues, i would not recommend trying to fix on your own. Just for warranty purposes. Some are good at that sort of thing tho.

        • +1

@BNN: I sit less than 2m away from the thing! Agreed re. warranty.

    • +10

I think it's a great console but if those are the games you are waiting for you can wait.

I suspect the 'issues' being reported have been blown a bit out of proportion. Certainly worth getting a screen protector just in case but otherwise I think the consoles doing fine. I'd expect places like the whirlpool Australia forums etc to be exploding if the issues were as wide spread as some have made out. Always worth keeping in mind that those with issues scream loudest and everyone else is usually too happy enjoying a product to make any noise and as such the discussion can become very lopsided very quickly.

      • +1

There's always a few bad eggs, every console has had it. With all the negativity, I still bought one. Mine has been transported around a bit and is all fine and dandy. I bought a screen protector as a precaution, it's also plastic and hasn't received a single scratch from the dock.

      • +1

Agreed, had no issues with my unit which was a day 1 purchase from Big W, couldn't be happier with my unit.

    • +1

I got one on release date and its been great. I got it with the Pro controller which I would highly recommend. Put a screen protector on when you get it. There have been people reporting that the dock scratches the screen. It hasn't happened to me but I put the screen protector on after 4 days of having it.

Its been great so far and will only get better with more games and software updates

    • No. Better wait for the holidays.

      • Love Zelda ofcourse, however this isn't a Zelda machine. Have never had any of the reported issues in the media. Fast RMX is crazily addictive and a brilliant game, definitely under marketed. Agree that Bomberman is fun to, the game has a nostalgic feel like when I used to play it on the SNES. +1

    • Pretty good so far will try beta splatoon 2 this weekend they have a trial going and will see how online turns out on switch

    • +1

it's the same story for every nintendo console.
Rehashing the same crap and zero decent third party support and I don't see big companies adopt this rubbish cartridge system when it costs literally nothing to mass produce cd's.

    • +1

      I love this sucker.

Been playing the shit out of the Japanese tetris demo which let's you have up to 4 players and zelda is a blast.

I was gonna wait a few months but my inner strength failed me and so I got it in the first week for 425.

Looking forward to the splatoon 2 demo coming up since I've heard great things about the first game.

      • That Tetris game is insane, but in a good way. Lol.

        • +1

Pro tip: play against three AI, put them on the same team and set them to max speed for a real rush.

    • +1

By the time I've finished Zelda there will be more games out. If you are a completionist who likes to explore then Zelda will occupy you for a long time.

    • I'm having a ton of fun, and I've used it as a handheld several times. But the majority of my playing Breath of the Wild has been on my TV.

I personally think you can wait until more games come out before buying one.

  • was waiting for target deal, disapponted

    • +2

did you know you can watch horn in 3d using the new 3ds with online streaming?

      • +1

        Toot toot!

      • +1

        really ?!?! bought.

        love horns

  • +3

$520 for a zelda game? naaah. heard its great though.

    • +1

Even if they announced there were no more games for the switch I honestly wouldn't regret paying that for this Zelda.

      • -2

well you can get it for free, kinda, on PC with cemu emulator.

  • +6

Playing zelda on WiiU, not going to pay this much for just zelda ATM

    • +2

No point buying if you have a Wii U. But if you don't have a Wii U Zelda is that good it's worth buying a Switch.

    • I got it on wii u too. switch will be okay in the future…

  • +1

Have prices of Wii U dropped meaningfully since the switch came out? Would pick one up to toy with, but only at ozbargain prices.

    • +2

Wii U prices haven't dropped at all, and it's unlikely there will be an advertised clearance of them by any store because there's not enough stock.

      • Yeah I doubt we'll see much of a hardware price reduction. Best bet might be gumtree or eBay if someone's offloading their old one.

On that note I can see the console having a bit of value down the road. There's not a huge number of units out there and the Switch isn't BC and we don't know how many titles will be ported. The Wii U has some strong first party titles so I can see it being a popular nostalgic trip in years to come.

    • Not really, but the 3 for 2 pre-owned sale at EB can make some Wii U games attractive.

  • I think I'll stick with my Vita for now./

  • +2

Holy crap. Someone has bought 11 switch consoles!!

    • Wow, 5 in one purchase and then 6 in the next. That's amazing.

    • +2

17 now, they just bought another 6:

      l j AU $469.00 6 22-Mar-17 15:07:39 AEDST
      l j AU $469.00 6 22-Mar-17 11:17:18 AEDST
      l j AU $469.00 5 22-Mar-17 11:13:41 AEDST

      • +1

Unreal! What the crap are they doing?!

      • +2

Almost certainly a scalper trying to take advantage of the US shortage, time to flip them quickly before the US has enough stock to go around.

        • +5

I would've thought that they'd go to Costco instead and save waiting for delivery.

        • Figured that'd be the case…Those eBay and PayPal fees will be fun!

I would have thought it'd be cheaper to buy off a local US reseller instead of paying someone in Australia to ship it over to you.

Oh well, good luck to them, I guess?

        • @hamza23:
Not sure on Costco's policies but I doubt that would let someone come in buy 17 consoles if they even have that many in stock, most stores have limits of one per customer. Additionally there might not even be a Costco near where they live.

        • +1

          @j4ck:
Hmm probably not cheap but currently they are going for around 400 USD on ebay, I would say at this stage they are taking a bit of gamble if they do intend to resell them considering the US is already starting to get the second wave of stock in, some Gamestops supposedly getting stock in the last 24 hrs.

        • @clint-008:

Yeah you're right and there's really not much money to be made at a $400 USD sale…

        • US or CN ? maybe just like another Milk Powder crisis…

  • +2

I went to Costco Northlakes last night and theres still a lot of stock for the Switch, no Zelda though, only bobmerman and 1 2 switch

  • I'll bite when they finally release that Pokemon game. For now, there's not enough to warrant a $400-500 purchase. I like the concept but with only Zelda out and its future uncertain (hoping it doesn't crash like the WiiU or die out like the Vita), I'll wait for a better discount and when more Nintendo titles are out.

  • +2

Target Craigieburn sill have Neon consoles in stock if anyone close by is still chasing one.
    Glhf

  • Was hoping the pro controllers would be cheaper. Should have bought one on that last deal.

    • +2

Might want to brush up on when you can neg vote deals

      • -3

just my opinion, i'm sorry I didn't play by 'the rules'. How about everyone gets a say even if the 'regime don't like it man'

        -David Brent

        • lol people don't like the office, you guys suck :D

      • +1

but thanks for at least giving me the link

  • +2

Finally caved. Total $576 for Switch, Zelda, and 1-2 Switch. 1.3% off from Cashrewards and I'm going overseas in a month, so not a bad deal.

    • +2

2.6% cashback at the moment actually, so an extra ~$6.09.

      • Oh, is that doubled automatically? I saw only 1.3% on my Chrome cashrewards extension.

        • +1

Yep you'll get it automatically, it started last night at 6pm or so I believe. Your extension might just be slow in updating but doesn't matter.

    • -5

      sorry for your loss

    • You'll love Zelda and you'll put 1-2 switch in the cabinet never to be seen again.

      • I just want to try out some party games. If 1-2 Switch isn't good I hope something good comes out soon.

  • Good price for the pro controller, but Zelda + Switch is Big W price, nothing special, but if you want it now, best bet.

  • Why rush in to buying a switch? Get one when it has more games and a better price.

    • +2

While I agree with the lack of games, Nintendo is pretty notorious for not lowering the RRP of consoles/games. Getting a better price will only ever come through bundles or deals like this

      • +1

Good point. Like anything though patience is required for the best deals, and by the time christmas comes all the good games will be out and their will hopefully be some good bundles

      • +1

Except for that time with the 3DS. I still got my 'ambassador certificate' after that.

        • Great point! Completely forgot about that one. Didn't they only give people the certificate and a few NES games as compensation?

        • @jredy29: GBA games. To be fair, they were mostly good: Minish Cap, Fire Emblem, a Metroid, etc. But that steep price cut burnt a lot of early adopters.

    • +4

Because waiting a year to save $80 is a lot less fun than playing Zelda on the switch today ?

      • +1

I'm starting to realise this. If you saved half price it's probably worth waiting but otherwise not really.

On a side note though I got one of those Coles price protection cards so I'm gonna buy now and save later

      • or you could play it on Wii U lol

        • Wii u prices are terrible for a superseded console so it makes no sense to get games for it unless you already have the console if you can get the switch version for a wii bit more.

        • @ChillBro: the game is basically the same, and I already have a wii u and so should everyone else :)

        • @ChillBro: the wii u is also an established console without the problems the switch has had with its teething problems, all new switch owners are beta testers, Nintendo's quality control for that system is the worst it has ever been. The Wii U has a great library of games and it's a shame that no one bought one - the marketing was terrible. It is a much better console than the original Wii, the Wii was a horrible console.

        • +2

          @defmay:
As a switch owner I believe the problems have been exaggerated as is the norm with new consoles which sell well. Unless you can show some hard stats which prove otherwise?

I would've gotten a wii u but the prices never came down to what I wanted to pay. Those $200 deals were extremely limited in quantity.

        • @ChillBro: It's impossible to disprove either. There might be a huge number of people who either don't notice or don't care, even if they are affected by issues like left joycon connectivity. There might be people who are just defending their purchase, etc.

Nintendo would never, ever disclose how many units are affected. All we have is anecdotal data and the fact is, people experienced a specific, reproducible problem with connectivity. Nintendo already acknowledged it, is fixing the issue at manufacturing, and adding conductive foam to the exact place the community had theorised was the engineering problem area. Whether it actually affects you or not, is likely due to your wireless environment, but it's real.

        • @Strand0410: I'm sure it is but as I said, it seems exaggerated by the media. Plus, I'm sure you would also know that they're fixing affected units relatively quickly.

        • @ChillBro: And good for them, but until Nintendo discloses how many units are returned, which they never will, we don't know how many are affected. Exaggerated? Who knows. It could literally affect all of the first run units, and most users just didn't notice because of their wireless environment.

  • +1

In store pickup only now for the Pro Controller.

    • Thanks updated.

Edit 23/3: 1-2 Switch, Pro Controller, 2pk Joy-Con Controllers, Just Dance & AC Adapter are now click & collect only.

      • +2

Now it's back to being posted again. >.<

  • New Zelda BotW (switch) stock in. Conveniently just after the promo code expired. Bastids! If you're having as much trouble sourcing a copy as I am, I would suggest nabbing one even sans discount. It's the same cost w/ shipping as many outlets are charging just for the game. Also, I've called multiple outlets - none getting stock for a least a week, often 2 weeks+.
