  • good drive, but it's been cheaper.

    • It's been cheaper, but exchange rate was worse. So right now it's actually cheaper than the last deal, in AUD.

There was an even better deal ~cyber monday, but unless you want to wait another half year…

  • +1

Can't see any change from the 'normal' recent Amazon prices for these drives.

For the Seagate, Amazon reviews suggest a shingled Archive drive inside, in which case the WD would be the far superior option. It reportedly has a WD80EZZX, which is apparently just a WD Red 8TB with non-NAS firmware.

    • Agreed.
I've got one of the WDs as well as a few of the SMR archive drives and the WDs are a better option here, not that the archive drives don't have their place in the market.

      • you guys seem to know what you're talking about. Is the WD one a good option? I just know i need space and am looking for the cheapest option but if WD is better, happy to pay an extra $10. Is this the latest in terms of transfer speed?

        • Yes its better for the below reason.
The archive drive is fine, but if you transfer more than 100GB in one session it will slow down dramatically until you give is some idle time to catch up.

        • I'm just new to OzBargain and ordering from Amazon USA. Also thinking of going for the 8TB WD HDD. An extra US$10.00 seems worth it. However, there is an extra US$15.00 delivery charge to Australia bumping the AUS$ price up an extra $20.00. Can the delivery charge be avoided?
