  • Is "Antiglare" matte finish?

    • +1

      Yes

  • +16

Please change the title to '950M' rather than '2GB nVidia', which is useless for determining how good the GPU is.

    • +12

      My apologies. How's that :)

      • +3

        Good thanks :)

I know its been a long time since I used to build PC-s but jesus christ that seems like an insane price for those specs. Bear in mind the best GFX card was 9800ti back in my days.

I know its a laptop not a pc but still.

    • Yep, I work in IT every day but I must admit I hadn't so much as more than glanced at laptop specs/prices in the last couple of years. Did a bit of research recently for a family member's laptop and a client's laptop and the prices are crazy low these days!

Decent low-ish end business grade Lenovo's can be had for $1300…used to be hard to find anything decent under $2000

    • +7

Keep in mind the 7500u is only a dual core. Any desktop i5 or even i3 could beat it.

      • how can they get away with calling it an i7 when its a dualcore?

        • +4

There are variants. HQ is the quad core and U is the low performance variants. 7500U is the fastest in the U variants hence they called it i7. It's pretty confusing to the average consumer though. The U series is typically found in smaller laptops that have long battery life.

        • +3

Intel made the specs for i7 so I guess they can call it what they want? :)

          http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/386100/what_difference…

They call it an i7 as its faster than a dual core i5 or i3 in that class (ULV)

        • +10

          @Yuri Lowell:
Funny thing is im fairly technically inclined and am well aware of technology.

          You'd assume:
          i3 = dual core
          i5 = quad core
          i7 = quad core hyperthreaded /octa core

this is what they did with the original release, why chang ethat and mislead people.

        • +3

          @Kill Joy:

Yeah I was just looking at the CPU specs myself, would've been sweet if it was a quad core, dual core is just a bit of a let down.

        • @SilentBob: yeah it sucks its slower than my 4 year old quad core it replaced stuff like video editing is going to struggle

        • +1

          @Kill Joy:

Thats assuming you are looking at the desktop line.

They used a similar numbering convention with the 6th generation i7 mobile processors which were dual core hyper threaded:
          https://ark.intel.com/products/88194/Intel-Core-i7-6500U-Pro…

That same generation used the same naming conventions of this current generation for the quad core HT mobile processors with HQ added (and 45W TDP vs 15W for the U):
          https://ark.intel.com/products/88967/Intel-Core-i7-6700HQ-Pr…

Its all in the manufacturers specifications. Not defending Intel's naming conventions but they have a ridiculous number of SKU's. The system builders could help by specifying the number of cores next to the processor name perhaps.

At least the lettering has been largely the same between processor generations :)

        • +1

@Kill Joy: I look for the Q in the CPU name if I want quad core, although I am sure it's not a given that you'll be getting Quad core with that approach. They've probably changed it since

        • Thanks for all the helpful replies everyone, I'll be sure to look up specific specs next time i look for a new computer.

    • -2

I agree except I dont see what Jesus Christ has to do with your comment?

      • -2

        Neither does Buddha!

        • -4

I agree Buddha doesnt make sense with his comment either. However it seems people find it acceptable just to throw out Jesus Christ as a swear word or a form of profanity when it obviously offends people and their beliefs. Why?

        • @infra: I read it as a form of exclamation and not as profanity. I don't think Jesus would have a problem with it though.

        • +4

i just find it weird that someone's name is used at all. it doesn't even rhyme..
i.e. for risto's sake, just do it already! -> sounds odd
          or even worse:
"I know its been a long time since I used to build PC-s but justin bieber that seems like an insane price for those specs"
          like… wot?

        • +1

          @justin_tsoi:

Youd use it more like for f's sake just do it already
          or
"I know its been a long time since I used to build PC-s but F that seems like an insane price for those specs"

        • -1

@infra: What about people who dont believe in god?

        • +1

          @infra:

Offence is taken not given, it's your problem if you're offended by someone's turn of phrase. This is exactly the reason that 18C needs to be amended or withdrawn.

        • @djmm:
Then why offend someone that does?

        • @Sir Casm:

If someone is fat and you call them fat you offend them and intend to offend them.
Therefore offense can be given and taken.

        • @infra: I dont think the poster was directly offending someone - he was using figure of speech. someone else got offended. Oh well.

        • @djmm:
A figure of speech that offends a large percentage of people that are Christians.
Just because Christians dont kill people for offending God doesnt mean they dont care.

I dont see anyone using Allah or Buddah in their comments.

        • -1

@infra: I love the Old Testament stuff. Do you adhere to all of it? I feel bad when I wear cotton/poly jocks. I know that is wrong also.

        • -1

@justin_tsoi: "I know its been a long time since I used to build PC-s but by jingo that seems like an insane price for those specs"

"I know its been a long time since I used to build PC-s but jiminy crickets that seems like an insane price for those specs"

"I know its been a long time since I used to build PC-s but jesus christ that seems like an insane price for those specs"

          profanity where?

        • @infra:

A statement of fact is not liable to be deemed offensive, an inconvenient truth perhaps. In the same vein I can say all abrahamic religions are merely rehashed & miscontrued fables cooked up by nomadic tribes & not cause offence, or that Mohammed was a pedophile warlord who slept with an eight year old…

My advice, don't heed what others are saying if it doesn't suit your worldview. Taking offence is a waste of your time & effort, don't bother with it. Trying to police other people's deeds is a big enough job for our government & authorities, thoughts and words should be kept out of it.

        • +1

@Risto: back to your comment (as a form of exclamation) - jingo, jiminy crickets, jesus christ, yes yes i know they're used as vernacular. but seriously, what does it mean and why that selection?

i understand "f's sake that seems like an insane price"
          but switching to a name?
not asking because i'm offended. asking because… it doesn't make sense??!!

        • +1

@Risto: and another thought, what if you replace jesus christ and target someone else…. who is gay? def not PC but surely not acceptable… right?

        • -1

@justin_tsoi: You wouldn't because it is just standard vernacular we are talking about. And further, I have said "Oh my Buddha" in Thailand and nobody even misses a beat. They say it themselves. And they are very devout. Why do Christians get so defensive SOME Old Testament rules and not ALL of them? Do you get equally upset if I suggest we throw a shrimp on the barbie?

        • @Sir Casm:

I understand what your saying. The problem is that it was not a statement of fact. It was a use of God's name (or if you dont believe in God then a person who is held in high esteem by many people in the world) in a way that was not respectful to Him. Therefore offence IS given to those who believe in Jesus Christ or who hold him in high esteem.

If a gay person is in the room and I describe an item that has broken as 'this thing is so homo' am I using homo in a way that they would like? Or am I using 'homo' to describe a useless inanimate object and thereby giving them offence?

        • @Risto:

"And further, I have said "Oh my Buddha" in Thailand". Thats nice.

Christians believe that the 10 commandments are still God's law and therefore must be upheld. The rules they were given in the old testament are different than the law.

Why can someone say OMFG (the extended version not the acronym) or JFC and expect a Christian not to get offended? Why do they need to use God's name at all if they dont believe in Him?

If someone says anything anti gay they are crucified by everyone but you mention anything against the Bible and what Christians believe and thats considered OK?

        • @infra:

I get your position as well mate, but it's the state of society which governs what language is deemed "offensive" or otherwise. Whereas previously exclaiming "Jesus Christ" would make women faint and draw gasps of horror is now common parlance, and conversely using what we now consider racial and sexual epithets were pronounced freely and unashamedly. The tables have, for better or worse, turned and now more than ever the language police are out in force, particularly online, to try and control what is said. Don't take it personally, it usually isn't meant to be so, but if it is, taking offence means the offending party wins. Cop it on the chin & resolve to not engage with persons who conduct themselves like that. No sense wasting time on idiots.

        • @infra: Your Christian beliefs make you think you must follow the commandments of the Old Testament. You just have to follow Jesus my dear brother. If you want to get all Old Testament on this, then you will be so anti-gay and so anti-shrimp and so anti multi-fabric jocks. God told Abraham to violate God's own law and kill his son in order to prove his faith. Clearly laws come and go. But Jesus' sacrifice was enough. Go with it, free yourself. And take a moment to think how the poor people who use Jesus Christ as a form of exclamation feel when righteous and infinitely fallible Christians start chastising them.

        • @Risto:

Dude your missing the entire point. You intentionally focusing trying to make out that its because I believe and that what I believe is wrong therefore I shouldnt be offended by what people say.

The point is there ARE Christians and a lot of them that believe that God's Name should not be taken in vain. Just because YOU dont care or think other people should care doesnt mean you should intentionally try to offend them. Adding in silly things like shrimp on the bbq which I've already told you I dont care about and the jocks comments… I mean really?

Just because people feel like they can use God's Name however they like doesnt mean I should keep quiet about it. I can raise the point in a nice enough way so they can try not to in future. I dont presume that I do everything right or that I'm not sinful. To say that I'm chastising someone else is a bit extreme mate.

Your obviously confused in what you believe or what you think Christians believe. Perhaps you should read the links I posted earlier properly?

Thanks for adding your piece to this but I think your just trying to provoke me with your comments so I'll just ignore any further posts.

          Cheers

        • @infra: You can raise points and so can others that oppose them. There are numerous people who found no offence with the exclamation. You called it profanity. You are the one who feels compelled to follow God's laws of the Old Testament. Jocks of multi-fabrics would be included in the laws. Gays also. I am not totally confused about what Christians believe, I reckon they believe every word in the Bible and then find ways to reconcile the angry God in the Old Testament with the loving God of the New. Anyway, point being, many people are NOT offended and that is why the expression has found its way into modern parlance. So you should respect them (like almost everyone else did) also. Have a great day.

      • You need to get out more or at least watch some TV to find out in multiple ways how people use words.

    • You can't really compare specs with pricing when you are talking about business/corporate/enterprise laptops. For example, a similarly specced T570 will sell for over $1800+ and I know my clients would prefer a T570 over an E570.

  • IS this a good deal?

    • +12

      You upvoted it….

    • If you're fine with the form factor then definitely. You won't find anything better at this price and these specs.

    • +7

Selecting "16GB(8+8) DDR4-2133MHz SODIMM" rather than 1 stick at 2400MHz gets the price down to $965, if getting it under $1000 is a deal maker for you. That's cheap!

      • Is it even cheaper if I want 8gb ram instead?

        • +1

Yep, there are a number of much cheaper RAM options.

      • or try 12gb @ 2400Mhz for $915

  • industry-wide price increases of RAM & SSDs

First I've heard of this. Why would prices be rising? Silicon Shortage??

  • Similar to this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/297411#comment-4528816
Much of that discussion will apply here.

Interestingly, a couple of days after that deal I got an email from Lenovo offering the same deal with another, more generic coupon.

    • +2

But then ta wouldn't get dat affiliate coin.

      • That assertion is incorrect. You can still use Cashrewards to get cashback with generic Lenovo coupon code. As of Dell XPS 13, while it appears Dell does not offer cashback via cashback sites, you can get cashback from purchases at Dell's eBay store.

Having dealt with both Dell & Lenovo's digital marketing department personally, I'll say Lenovo is far more aggressive in sending out offers, which explains why you see more Lenovo deals on OzBargain.

        • +3

I wasn't referring to CR. I assumed the 'TA' in the code was personalised to OP, in which case it would be an easy way to measure OPs effectiveness in driving sales in exchange for compensation.

    • +1

I think I like this one better, because it's the 15" and has the numpad, whereas the 14" in the other deal did not.

Looks like this one has a (very marginally) better video chip too
      http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-950M-vs-GeForce-940MX

      But the battery is weaker
this 4-cell Cylindrical (41 Wh) (Up to 8 hours (MobileMark 2014))
then 6-cell Polymer (45 Wh) (Up to 10 hours (MobileMark 2014))

and I couldn't find a replacement battery for the e570 (is it replaceable?)

and there is no option for bigger battery

FWIW, this one is a bit cheaper than the last time it was on special (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/271124).

  • Hi Guys , just question , would it be a good choice for Autocad/ Revit ?? Thanks

    • +1

Nope. Wouldnt do large xref or render cad files well.

      Would be slow

      • what kind of laptop would you recommend then for Autocad/Revit use? Thanks !

        • +2

          something quad core

        • +1

          @mrwillc:and with independent gfx card

        • @BKZ: so you wouldnt recommend one of those 2in1 laptops ? I was thinking about buying a 2in1 which is easy to carry to around and then buy an independent monitor which I connect the tablet-laptop to when I am at home. Would that work for Autocad/Revit? Thanks for your help guys

        • +1

@Sergito89: if you are after a Lenovo ni would opt for the Yoga 460

          http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/deals/current-offers/deals-of-t…

Almost like a 2 in 1 but somewhat heavier and doeant detach but folds over. Any 2 in 1 laptops will have minimal space and lightweight requirements hence internal Intel Graphics Card.

All depends on what you want to use cad for.

I've worked with drafters who have hadnto have super desktop computers since our cad/dwg files were so intense.

        • @BKZ: that sounds good. I actually had a look to that one… the only thing is the weight… nearly 2kg is a bit too much.

Cad is gonna be for 2D and well a bit of Revit for 3D

        • +1

@Sergito89: thats the down side of an independent GFX

Im in the same boat myself….

I use a surface pro 4 for my day to day but need another for my hardcore work… looking at waiting to see what the surface pro 5 will have or might bute the bullet and get a surfacebook ( almost 3 x the cost though)

        • @BKZ: ye that's right…

u happy overall with the surface 4? I might get one of those for my day to day as well. plus for autocad 2d drawings i dont think I ll need that independent GFX

Would this be a good option? I know it s refurbished but it is the price I am looking around.. https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Certifi…

          https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Certifi…

          thanx again for ur comments

        • +1

          @Sergito89: they are USD

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/297345#comment-4527497 for the apple

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/297488 for surface Pro 4

Thats what i have. I love it. Only think i hate is when you connect to multi screens or projectors the font and resolution goes weird forcing u to sign out and back in.

Overall i rate it for business use and simple cad just no intensive stuff. Also explorer and edge are crap and lag with video embedded sites. Works great with chrome though

      • Do you recommend any reoccurring laptop deals like this?

  • +2

I am tempted but I am holding for a good deal for a desktop with similar specifications to replace my current desktop which is getting quite old. A number of good to excellent deals on laptops seen in OzBargain in the last 3-4 months but not much regarding desktops around that price bracket ($700 - $1300). I guess the popularity of the desktops is waning fast but I still like the flexibility they provide with regards to internal hard drive configurations (SSD + HDD).

    • +3

Almost certainly going to be cheaper to just buy parts and put them together yourself. No?

  • -5

Nowadays, this kind of 2kg+ laptop is really in a awful position, can not compete with iPad with portability, can not compete with decent desktop for comfortable usage.

    • ??? totally different form factor and platform types.
A more informed comparison would be iPed v android or win tablet. Macbooks v laptops. Macs v Pc desktops etc.

      • -1

For a " normal " user, only need two devices, portable or powerful. Not every one likes to try everything then decide.

    • And if I want portable performance?
A tablet (and even an ultrabook) won't cut it for workstation and gaming applications, and surely you're not implying I cart my PC and all its peripherals around with me?

  • I thought this was amazing but then I read dual core….

    Still a great price :)

  • +1

Hey guys long time lurker have a question. Would these specs be enough to play fps games like black Ops 3,battlefield 1 in mid settings? Ta

  • after one like this but don't need optical drive, would prefer bigger battery instead & touchscreen?

  • How does this compare to the dell posted on OB?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/298237

This has 256G SSD vs 1TB HDD on the Dell.
    The screen is slightly smaller.

    what else?

    • Dell has a backlit keyboard and that's about it. The Lenovo 950m is more than twice as fast as the R7 M445 and as you mentioned it only has a 5400rpm 1TB hard drive. Similar battery life. No reason to buy the Dell.

      • Also touchscreen right?

        • Oh yeah, it does. I missed that.

  • would it be 47% off due to 7% off from lenovo cashrewards?

  • I selected 2x 4gb ram and tried applying the code but its giving me an error

    price below floor price?

EDIT: couldnt figure it out so i settled for 2x 8gb and now i dont think cash rewards tracked my purchase because its not showing that i made a purchase? sad sad

    • try the 12gb 2400mhz option - removes $95.

      • Will you really notice 12 - 16gb difference on this computer? I would think it wouldn't matter much considering it is limited by the dual core processor so want to get the 12gb unless someone really recommends the 16 on here.

    • It worked the second time for me.

      Web Price: $1,549.00

      After eCoupon:
      $860.00

      Savings: $689.00

      • How did you get that price. What RAM you have bought ?

        • I haven't bought yet, but I got that price by doing the following:
Change RAM from this: 16GB DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM
          To this: 8GB(4+4) DDR4-2133MHz SoDIMM [ subtract $ 150.00 ]

IMO 8GB of RAM is plenty for a 7500U and 950M.
To warrant 16GB I would want a 7700HQ (quad core) or higher and a 980M/1060 or higher.

        • @Viper8: Thanks Mate ! I will take your suggestion on board to buy 8GB

  • Would these specs edit 4k video?

    • +2

basic editng yes but it would not be fast. adding effects it will struggle . you really need a quad core laptop for video editing nowadays.

  • +1

    Hi TA,
Anything in the works regarding a 13" laptop around the same price mark with good build and specs? The 14" deals are good but I'm still holding out for something a littler lighter.

  • Hi there, do you have any suggestion for a decent responsive 13" laptop around $500 for every day use? Thanks.
