Best Budget Mobile (under $250)

Hi,

This is probably the best place to ask what the best budget phone would be under $250 with a good set of specs that will last me a decent while.

Thank you!

    • I've seen those two, which one is the better option?

ROM changes, B28 stuff and adware have got me concerned. I'm the typical Apple user with no phone knowledge.

      • Go for the redmi note 3, much better community support and a lot of people are having trouble with zuk z2. Just purchased redmi 4 prime and love it. Even without band 28 get 4g most places on telstra

        • What kinda issues are you referring to in regards to Zuk Z2?

      • B28 not an issue unless you live rurally. No problem at all in the cities. RN3 and RN4 are both great phones for the price and can be had for around the $200 mark or a little more. I've owned both but RN4 is more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. Performance wise they are virtually the same. The international version of RN3 has B28 and there was a deal on that here yesterday. Its slightly different in size so finding a cae can be a bit of a problem.

        • Is the Zuk Z2 worse than a Xiaomi?

        • @Ganbaru: I don't have any experience of Zuk phones, but generally Xiaomi is considered to be the most reliable of the Chinese brands. From personal experience I would definitely recommend Xiaomi. Excellent build quality and performance.

        • "No problem at all in the cities" - does that include Perth, and Bunbury (more regional)?

  • Can't go wrong with a Xiaomi. If you just want a budget phone with good-all-around performance, the Xiaomi's (with Snapdragon processors) are usually great picks.

The Redmi series don't excel in any particular area (especially photography) nor do they have special features like NFC, water resistance, glove touch support or wireless charging, but they'll give a lot of more expensive phones a run for the money.

A feature that is relatively unknown is the built in infrared blaster in a lot of the models. I didn't know the Redmi Note series had it until I had a quick glance on a forum.

You might want to have a look at Moto g4 Play

    • Another vote for the Motorola G4 Play - great phone, doesnt feel budget at all. I got for $250 with a pricematch at Officeworks…

  • You should def consider Xiaomi, I've got one myself and am very happy with it. Alternatively, if you don't mind larger screen, take a look at Le Max 2 (x820 or x829). This also is an excellent value for the money. Just keep in mind that many find the fingerprint reader unreliable - if that's important to you..

  • Still finding it difficult to choose between a Xiaomi, the ZUK and the G4.

    • Just got a redmi 4 prime, absolutely awesome phone, with amazing battery life. And the camera is surprisingly good. can get them for about $180
