Samsung Notebook 9 Light Titan NP900X3N-K01US

Hi Ozb,

Have been looking to purchase a laptop.

Previous Mac user (Air->12")

Looking to windows for more flexibility

What do you guy's think of this Samsung Notebook 9 2017..Latest model?

I know it's an International model , fortunately I know people within Samsung who can assist with warranty issues/repairs.

Specs:
i5 7200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Win 10 Home

$1499 AUD

Worth it ?

If not what are better options, good specs, ultrabook.

  • I recommend this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/296764
From what I've seen these are well regarded as in the top 3, if not the top, windows thin and light on the market. Good price with the current ebay sale.

    • What's your view on all the issues the XPS line has been experiencing ? Coil Whine, Audio, Quality issues? This is what is straying me away… I don't want to go through the hassle if any, of having to be disappointed then returning the unit and maybe having to wait for a refund …

Otherwise I'll just get an Air 2016 ..reliable.

      • I've only heard of the Coil Whine issues, and those have been pretty limited. Ive heard many more good things than bad things regarding build quality etc.
However, If you are a previous mac user, i would stay with mac.

I am a windows user myself, always have been, and i fix computers, but the windows operating system frustrates the hell out of me in how often it screws up with wierd and crazy problems that just shouldn't happen. Unless you have a compelling reason to switch to windows i would stay with mac. Just my opinion.

There's macs on sale now as well https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/297345

  • I have a 2013 Samsung Series 9 laptop that is still going incredibly well. Updated to Windows 10 as a clean install recently and runs a treat. Still got good battery life for a 4 year old laptop.

I wouldnt touch another Samsung phone due to the bloatware that comes along with it, but I rate their laptops highly.

  • I have a Series 9 ultrabook as well. I rate it highly. updated to Win10. reasonably quick,
I can run Photoshop CS5 or lightroom for light image processing and lightworks for video editing.
Great for doing things while traveling.

    Touch screen works well.

  • Where are you buying? Amazon?

  • Samsung's new laptop line is… I shouldn't say much since I didn't physically have a look their latest laptop line, but I've heard nothing good about it.

I'd go with Dell if I were in your position. You could go with other options as well, but I'd stay away from the Samsung model. That's just my position on it though.

Also, even if you know people in Samsung, they'd probably not be able to do much if a part breaks, you'd likely need to wait till the parts come in. That's what happened with me with a laptop that wasn't sold in Australia (had an international warranty on it though).

It's an ultra light laptop (they might have their own name, I just call them that) and they make compromises to achieve the weight they target. I never like the compromises those type of devices make (battery life, sturdiness and other bits and pieces). So I might be biased on this.
