Episode 1 had been advertised as free before on various platforms (Google Play, Windows/Xbox One) and it's also free on Steam. Just open your Steam client, find the game page, scroll down to the banner that says 'Play Episode One Free' and click on it.
The DLC (episodes 6,7 & 8) is also 60% off ($5.99 USD, ~$7.80 AUD).

Very little replay value and a basic game, but my 7yo MineCraft addict enjoyed it.
