11

We're having a clearance sale of our 'First Batch' watches - 40% off of this model, retailing for $108 USD (~$143 AUD delivered).

Note that checkout is in USD, some banks may charge additional international transaction fees.

There is free shipping, which usually takes 7-10 working days to arrive in Australia from our warehousing partner in China

The Watch

The "First Batch" collection of watches differ slightly from our current production watches. These watches were made pre-production to test the quality of a larger order through our manufacturer. Some key differences are a different strap to our production watches, also the day wheel is in
English/Chinese rather than English/French in our production watches.

It is a quartz watch (Miyota movement) with 316L stainless steel case and a sapphire crystal, with a full grain leather strap.

On the back of the watch it is engraved with "THE FIRST BATCH" AND "1 OF 100" to signifiy the collection and our first production run of watches.

    40% OFF CROFT Watches

Got one in Lara last week.

    • She always steals our thunder!

      • I was referring to the suburb Lara.

I previously got a Croft from Werribee. But found the quality of the Lara Crofts better.

        • Any more Crofts and you could find yourself at the Croft Institute

    • +1

This one is Lara's cousin, Matt Black.

Whether you find yourself at a Michelin starred restaurant or a beach-side barbeque, the Richmond 'Matt Black - Brilliant White Dial' slips easily into any occasion, always making a statement of class and taste.

That's disgusting. What the hell was it doing in there?

  • +2

    40% off?
that still far too much for aliexpress OEM $7 watch

    • +2

i would hesitate to go that far… $7 watches dont have sapphire crystals or 50m water resist but I get you, $143 is too much for this, what is ostensibly a chinese fashion watch with a western name.

      • -1

We totally understand where you both are coming from. A $7 watch typically would typically be a metal alloy with a low quality leather band, a Chinese quartz movement and typically these watches will not have much testing or QC.
Whereas for us, there are other costs to be factored in i.e. lower order quantities, warehousing, shipping with Australia Post in Australia, marketing, website hosting fees, taxes etc. We have also been to China to find the supplier and build the watch alongside them to ensure the production environment is appropriate to Australian standards. Then the margin left over we have put back into the business to look at other products.

I just love the snap-on back, it makes it so much easier to change the battery.
I couldn't help but notice that the photo of the back is engraved with "1 of 300" rather than the "1 of 100" you had on your original float and are claiming in the description.
The "warranty" states that it is only applicable to the original purchaser with the receipt then further states "The customer’s exclusive remedy for a breach of warranty will be the repair or replacement of the item as determined by CROFT Watches. " That, under Australian law, is not the case.
Your "Australian" company doesn't appear to be using an Australian site.
You do not offer an address of your shop.
    The "testimonials" look like advertspeak.
You give no water resistance rating, unlike the other watches you listed around this value that you claim are 50 Ft resistant.
It may be a nice watch, but there are too many flags screaming "drop-shipper" in this for me to be remotely interested.
Your stainless case and sapphire crystal are about as useful as an Otterbox case for a $10 phone.

The business is run entirely online as such I didn't want my home address in Melbourne advertised to the world.
I'll happily show you the watches in Melbourne CBD though if you did want to see them in person?

        • +1

          thats a poor excuse.
i dont see the issue with the5th publishing their details on their who is.

        • +1

@tuzii: There is no issue with the5th publishing their details. At the time the domain was purchased our UK Ltd company hadn't been registered so we didn't have a London address. I just didn't want my home personal address advertised given it's a residential address.

The snap-on back does make it easy to change the battery!
The engraving error you spotted was a photo from one of our samples over a year ago when we wanted a limited edition of 300 watches, and then thought 100 was more appropriate.
I'll dive into the Australian warranty regulations, however CROFT Watches is a UK limited company.
There is no address as this is solely an online store.
Every watch goes through testing and are tested to 5 ATM's, which is equivalent to depths of 50m of static pressure.
We're not a dropshipper, but I can see where you get that impression, I'll take all your thoughts as constructive feedback and see what I can resolve.

"I'll dive into the Australian warranty regulations, however CROFT Watches is a UK limited company."

So you are selling from the U.K., shipping from China, but representing yourself as an Australian company for the purposes of this post.
I'd look up the Australian regulations as well, given that the regulatory bodies here are quite likely to consider you and your company to be bound by them. Given that you are living in Melbourne, but have not checked out the governance of Australian sales, you can see how it would look to some…

        • I fully see how it looks, I started preparing to launch the watches before I left London and moved to Melbourne which is why it has such an international twist.
I've been going through the ACCC website reviewing the warranty requirements, particularly the mandatory wording for Australian businesses regarding warranty defects, and will reword our warranty when I have time to digest a bit more of the site.
          Thanks for pointing this out!

You'd be better off waiting for a post from WatchNerd. A Seiko or Citizen in this price bracket would be better value.

    • They do some great deals! We can't argue with that!
The Citizens have a similar, if not the same movement that we use, on some of their models.

    • The Kickstarter campaign was run at almost cost prices to get the watches into production with the manufacturer to meet the MOQ. These were priced before we incurred the additional overheads that businesses incur over time. It's not sustainable to operate at Kickstarter prices.

      • +1

but they are $1 cheaper now?

        • Yes they are.

  • Your description states full grain leather, whereas the pictures label the band with genuine leather, which is el cheapo leather. So it's changed?

    • No change to the leather, full grain leather is genuine leather, we didn't want it to be misconstrued as PU leather. I added full grain leather here to highlight that that it is the top layer of the hide rather than a lower grade form like bonded leather which some similar brands offer.

  • +1

Tough crowd. Not sure if it's the best deal for a watch (especially with so many quality sub 100 options floating around), but the Kickstarter actually looks pretty decent and if you like their style it might be worth it. At least better than this fiasco where the OP really was trying to sell 50c alibaba watches at $50 'discounted' prices.

    • +2

Tough crowd but a great crowd! You can't pay for feedback like the above, it's great to identify issues/improvements and really question ourselves!
It is a saturated market you're right, hard to be a differentiator, but it's been an experience so far.

  • $143 (plus currency conversion) is extremely over-priced for a drop-shipped quartz fashion watch from China that has no history. This generic style has seriously been done to death. Just go on Kickstarter and you'll see what I mean. Yeah, it's got a sapphire crystal which is a nice touch, but the rest is just a catalogue watch with a printed dial and logo on it - possibly markers, but they look applied. Do yourself a favour and get an Orient Bambino or Symphony II, Timex, Casio, Seiko or Citizen.

    • Thanks for your thoughts, although you've confused us as dropshipping. I own all of the stock and use a fulfillment the warehouse which we pay monthly fees to, to store the products and ship them for us. It's a cost saving due to our customers being all over the world.
We did go on Kickstarter, we were successfully funded almost a year ago.
It does have markers toof, they are a nice touch.
I agree the Orient Bambino is a great watch, I've one in my collection, as is the Timex Wkender, a sturdy casual piece, and they can often be had at a good price too.

  • This is why I go on Ozbargain.
