    Fifth freedom flights ;)

  • Full service airlines like Virgin & Air NZ fly for cheaper ($188). Qantas is offering one way flights for the same price.

    EDIT: Same for Sydney-Auckland, Brisbane-Auckland

      Apples and Oranges.

Virgin and AirNZ are budget airlines over the Tasman. Fares are seat only. Bags are 25 bucks for 23kg, and another 20 bucks for food.

      • OK, the Virgin/Air NZ fares are $209 when you include bags which is still cheaper than Emirates.

If you are flying to London, the Middle East, Asia etc., yes the extra money to fly in Emirates in an A380 is worth the extra money but for a short hop (3.5 hours) over to NZ, not worth it. Personally, I'd go Jetstar for such a short trip and save the money as NZ is expensive.

Nothing against the OP or Emirates, it's just not a bargain.

        • For a proper comparsion, you need to go on Virgin, find the same flight and pick the Getaway package, so it include both luggage and food like Emirates.

Alternatively, if you are on AirNZ site, pick an AirNZ flight and pick The Works bundle. They only offer the seat and seat + bag when on code share.

Not saying the OP is a good deal, I saw some AKL-MEL in late April on Jetstar for less than 100 a couple weeks back. But was just pointing out the different inclusions and pricing structures.

        • I agree with the Jetstat (although they fly at odd times) but kiwiland beer is cheaper

Virgin and Air Nz are rubbish compared to the A380 you get to fly on with Emirates. I think Emirates offers 30kg of checked luggage and the food is 10 times better.

This 'deal' comes up every month.

Better off flying with China Airlines. I've used their services over 10 times in the past few years.
Last year I paid $270 for a return ticket to Auckland.

Beautiful air hostesses (huge difference to the hags on Qantas), decent food, spacious seats and lots of old chinese/taiwanese people who don't make much noise.

    • Last year I booked Jetstart with $190 return Auckland.

I'm waiting the same deal this year.

      • The difference is China Airlines offers 30kg checked baggage and it's a full service airline.

          I don't need the checked baggage & I don't need full service for 3.5 hrs flight…

And my missus will kill me if the passenger next to her took his shoes off and put it on the seat and spit.. lol…

        • @GundamZeta:

I have never liked Jetstar. Terrible service, small seats and they always seemed to be delayed.

        • @GundamZeta:

China Air flies A330/340 down to AKL. It has a 2-4-2 layout, just pick the window seats.

        • @sillysam:

for long haul, Jetstar no way…

for short haul, I'm fine with Jetstar. In fact, Virgin short haul are same as Jetstar…

therefore all budget airlines to AUK are same crap.

          @GundamZeta:
China Airlines flies out of Taiwan. You're thinking of Air China.

        • @pseudonym303:

lol.. they should change their name to taiwan airline to distinguish themselves from mainland.

        • @GundamZeta:
They are the Republic of China, as opposed to the People's Republic of China.
          The name Taiwan is colloquial.
Both governments consider themselves to be the legitimate Chinese government, and so they will never change their name to something that would lessen their claim of legitimacy.

  • Its the usual deal at $229 and yes, Virgin and Jetstar are $209. Personally, the A380 experience with decent food, wine, space, entertainment options and 10MB of free inflight data is worth the extra 20 bucks.

  • You had me at "$229" and lost me at "one way".

  • +1

Not a bargain, basically the average price.

  • I am not defending the deal, as I have no vested interest.
But it might suit some for things such as for flight times/connections etc, experience A380, entertainment system, food quality, safety perceptions, etc etc.
