I own the 8GB RAM version of this and love the design and feel of this and am generally a Lenovo fan. However, it has struggled for me and I have considered selling it and getting the 16GB version. I am a heavy internet user, usually with Word, Outlook and maybe another program open at the same time and it is not as smooth an experience as I had hoped. It was recommended to me to switch from Chrome to Firefox and while that has helped a little, I miss Chrome! Anyone else have experiences like this with Lenovo?

There's no way you are using more than 8GB with those programs.

      • I would have thought the same. The word documents are often in excess of 25 pages.

    • do you even have antivirus program?

      • Yes, Avira. I worry that this is using up quite a bit of the memory. Also, it seems to log me out of many websites every time I run a system speedup.

Avira is your issue… it messed up my new 7700K custom build rigg to the point i needed to reinstall windows.
if you want a free solution try Sophos Home, ive never had an issue with it.

          @tuzii:

Gulp, ok thanks. I will uninstall it now.

        • @matrix83:

Did the notebook come with any Lenovo software? For example my Toshiba came with their own media player and file explorer, a troubleshooter that never fixed anything, an Eco utility that worked when it felt like it, a bulletin board, a software updater that never updated and a whole suite of other things that I never used. But it all loaded up at start up, constantly ran in the background and always popped up in the notification area.

I uninstalled the lot and the machine ran heaps better.

Check to see what your PDF reader is doing. Some install toolbars, drive ads to your reader and constantly connect to the net. So much pain can come from such a simple program.

So it's worth seeing what's loaded and running on your machine. Hope it goes well.

Thanks for the advice. Deleting Avira seems to have fixed my problem. Earlier today I had 25 Chrome Windows open and the laptop didn't struggle at all. Previously I was getting to 6 and it was going slow and overheating. I don't understand how this is possible considering Avira seems to be recommended by many but thank you @tuzzi !

Good to hear you're notebook is running well again.

Nothing like getting tech support as well as a few bargains on this site.

yeah i would say you'd be using under 5GB maybe 4GB at max. The extra ram would only help if you were say video rendering or playing intense games (probably not on this machine but). Have a look at the programs that startup with the pc (in the task manager if on windows 10 or search startup in the start menu) and disable any you don't need.

You can update 8GB RAM to 16GB. There is only one slot, but you can buy 16GB RAM single rank. The replacement is very easy.

But 16GB RAM single rank is not cheap.

    • How does this match up with the T460S?

  • Is this a good price for this brand and spec? Looking for a similar laptop in this price range as well.

The main distinguishing features of Thinkpad Yogas are active stylus and touch in a robust, convertible chassis. If those aren't important to you, you might be able to get better value elsewhere.

      • Thabks, I can wait for a better value deal.

I think they use thinkpads on the ISS? Perhaps not this particular model but nonetheless. It's pretty good value. Compared to the dell inspiron 13" 5000, this is $260 cheaper with double the ram and SSD

  • Is it possible to upgrade RAM and add-in a Mechanical HDD in it? I know that there is no service bay, so it will be a PITA to remove the complete base, but still, can it be done?

      Hope this helps:

You can replaced the SSD with a mechanical HDD 2.5inch (7mm thickness).

If you still want an SSD, you can order a M.2 SSD that is 42mm length and put it in the M.2 Slot.

Ram can be upgraded to a single 16GB stick.

Its installed RAM is already 16GB, which I believe is the maximum that this will take.

  • Is Intel HD graphics 520 alright for light gaming such as LoL or CSGO on low?

Better to wait for a deal like this right?

    • The Intel HD 520 graphics is average. As evident in my SP4 i5.

If you are going to get the Yoga 460 and want to do light gaming on it, get one with the Nvidia 940M. From the benchmarks you will get 3x the preformance of the Intel HD 520. 10x the pixel fill rates.

Reason I sold my i5 Surface and ordered a Yoga 460 with NV940M.

  • Sorry tech noob here, but how do you guys think this would handle sound production? (on a novice level e.g mixing and editing 12 tracks in Pro Tools with native vsts)

    • You probably be limited by the SSD size. Some vst can be 10gb+ each. Plus the cache folder created on the SSD can be gbs in size.

  • Ordered one last week.

Same machine but with an i7-6500U and Nvidia 940M, 8GB ram.

Worked out $1250, waiting for it come in. Was built to order.
