MARCH MADNESS Promo - Save 50% off

50% off the RRP at launch in 2015.

Realistically this deal is ~10% off it's current price.

    • i agree :-)

i don't need the features of Gen 2 for my installation. 120 lumens is enough while i slowly build my hue products. belkin decided to discontine led bulbs and its not supported by alexa or google home without using other hubs like smartthings.

that's true. However ive been struggling to find any of the hue products on sale ever

      • The only time you can get one for less than retail is when either eBay or PayPal have a $20 off deal. I picked up the 2nd gen 2m lightstrip for $95 from an eBay seller.
I grabbed the Hue dimmer switch & light combo from officeworks eBay store for $39 from the recent 'CDARKER' $20 off deal.
Additionally, I've picked up philips hue colour 1st gen bulbs from HN for $50 each…

  • Anyone know what I need to use Philips Hue as content-reactive monitor backlighting? I've been told Philips Hue does the job but it's very poorly documented.

    • Would this be based on a ambient sensor or are you going to intercept the source signal?

Interested to hear more on this, I would have thought the feature would need to be built into the display.

I've seen most solutions use a pass through (HDMI). I have to use DisplayPort though so I'm not sure if this will be a problem.

Having looked into how Philips Hue achieves it, it seems to be software based (running on the PC).

        • Cheers

    • How are you with electronics?
Arduino provides a great interface for all sorts of projects like this, including controlling LED strips - wouldn't need Hue to do it either. I just use some cheap ones of Aliexpress (5m cost me about $20 from memory)

    • something like this would be what you need - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/woodenshark/lightpack-2…

I had the version 1 but needed a separate PC to monitor the screen data, the 2nd version promises HDMI passthrough but its not out just yet

Not sure why the Hue stuff can still be sold at such high 2015 prices. When is Xiaomi for example going to come out with a $20 competitor? I don't mind the Chinese government listening in on me if the price is right ;-)
