You must have an ABN to get this btw.

    • +1

      true, that's also free tho

      • +1

Yeah but you need a reason to signup for an ABN, you can't just do it without an intention of running an enterprise

So intend to run an enterprise.

The annual fees for Caltex StarCard is $10?

    • $2.95 per month

  • +1

I read on point hacks website that applying for this account may lead to a credit check by caltex. Don't want credit history to be affected.

    • +2

That really should be in the OP, simply linking to the "good description" is just lazy.

  • +3

I read the terms and conditions / privacy policy of this deal. They will perform a credit check on you.

  • +5

Credit checks are worth a lot more money than this is letting on.

    • 10,000 points are worth around $100 to sell here on OzB classifieds - some people will happily get 1 extra credit check on their account to score $100 (or $90 after fee)

      • +4

Really? Compared to using that credit check to actually get 75000 qff points on a cc? I definitely can speak for my self and I wouldn't want to "waste my credit" for $100.00

        • I never said its the best deal for getting maximum points.

I said some people will consider $100 worth a credit check. Those people would probably go for both deals to get 85,000 points for 2 credit checks.

I have no intention of doing this deal - but as you can read in the comments - others will/have.

I just used 2 different petrol price watch apps (GasBuddy and PetrolSpy) and Caltex is often 4 or 5 cents higher than other nearby fuel stations such as 7-Eleven and United - so the 2c or 4c /L discount provided is not much of an ongoing incentive either.

        • Here's another credit card (and another deal for the same card) that got a better reception, but offers less points up front.

Advantage of those deals over this deal is that it's an actual Credit Card with a bloody good price protection feature, and the points would equate to Velocity points or $0.005 per point instead of Qantas.

I also wouldn't "waste" a credit check on any of these deals, but agree with systmworks.

If everyone understood how credit checks worked, then the world would be a better place!

ps - I don't know how they work, I have several cards and always repay any balance in full each month…. so I'll risk the dreaded caltex credit check and report back to you in a few month's time if my life is in ruins.

If we don't hear back, we'll assume you're dead.

WHat is the big deal if you have a lot of credit checks? and how many is a lot?
I know I've suffered. I think from either too many credit checks, or maybe its because I just had started my business…
I got rejected by Optus for a sim only plan.. which put me onto the prepaid starter kits… ended up saving more money.. but it is a bit of a hassle porting out and in.
THe biggest gripe I had about this is the complex application with Deeds being signed and witnessed… such a hassle for maybe $100 worth of points….

    • I'm pretty sure that you've just answered your own question?! Lol!

Edit, apart from the "and what is a lot" question.

I would guess that it's not really about the number, but the impact on your ability to borrow. And I am as stumped as you are in this regard.

But remember, we live in Australia. Most of our industries are heavily reliant on middle men and minimal transparency. Nothing to see here…..

      • I remember working in a contact centre, and the idiot training manager used a live account for training. Except he used the one single account, for all training groups.

Customer was eventually declined for a new service elsewhere. She arranged a credit report and the only 'negative' was 400+ 'attempts' to provision a new service.

Confirm, my credit file was hit (got the alert from Veda)

  • Annual fee for the Caltex StarCard works out to be $35.40
Assuming fortnightly refill of 40L of 95/98, annual savings work out to be $41.60.
Assuming exclusive use of Caltex, the card pays for itself in fuel savings with the bonus of earning QFF points.

  • just applied for mine a few days ago,
not sure if my credit got hit, as my score hasnt changed,
my score isnt very good but was approved,

hoping to get my 10k points

  • My credit vile got an enquiry but no deduction in points. The credit application is filed under "Commercial Credit" section of my report. Somehow I think this might actually be beneficial?

Regardless Caltex seems to be breaching its own policy https://www.caltex.com.au/privacy-and-reporting-policy since Veda no longer exists they should have updated this to Equifax but failed to do so.
