50% off Virgin Active Membership, up to 50% off Fitness First, up to $400 off Anytime Fitness Fees/Yr for AIA Vitality Members

960

Full credit for this goes to lawyerz for this, his post tipped me off to joining AIA Vitality for half price Virgin membership, and as his post expired I thought I'd breathe some life in to it and hopefully get people cheaper gym membership.

To get the deals and access AIA you need an insurance policy that gives you AIA Vitality membership. I signed up for Life Protect through RAC, for $8.38 a fortnight. I'm young, healthy, and wouldn't have got any kind of life or injury insurance so the fact I have it is a bonus, to be honest. RAC or RACQ allow you to join directly and access AIA, otherwise you can fill in a form on AIA's site and a financial adviser will get in contact with you to sort you out with a policy that includes AIA membership.

Joining AIA gives you either $400/year discount at Anytime Fitness, or 50% off at Fitness First or Virgin Active. On top of that, each time you visit the gym you get points (capped at 15k a year) and each time you do certain activities you do. For example, filling in a mental health review on Vitality gives you 600 points, or tracking your food for 7 days per quarter gives you 1200 points a quarter. These points go towards one of four levels of membership, Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Each one gives you access to slightly better benefits in addition to the gym memberships.

Gift vouchers:
5,000 $20
10,000 $40
15,000 $60
20,000 $80
25,000 $100
30,000 $150
35,000 $200

Cashback on Qantas flights (limited to 2 per year)

Bronze 10%
Silver 30%
Gold 40%
Platinum 50%

Endota Spa vouchers (limited 4 per year)

Bronze Silver Gold Platinum
20% 30% 40% 50%

Also, if you get 250 points or more in a week through 'healthy living activities' such as going to the gym or from connecting your fitbit, you get a $7.50 Boost Juice voucher (and if you're signed up to Boost's rewards club the drinks you get through the voucher count towards the free Boost you get after every 10!).

I'm not associated with AIA Vitality at all, I just think it's a really awesome program that's saving me a ton of money.

Fairly sure it'd be from RRP mate :(

    • Damn:(

If your looking for an adviser, I would highly recommend Richard Jones from CRA, his my adviser. CRA are independent and not affiliated with any life office. Also the reason why I'm saying CRA is because they give a gift of garmin vivofit 3 for joining vitality. which makes those boost vouchers easy to get.

I've been a member for a while now, i'll just clarify a few things before you get too excited!

    1. You pay a $10 a month fee to be apart of the AIA scheme. This is ON TOP of your policy.
    2. The MINIMUM policy you can add the scheme to is $30 a month.

As for Qantas flights… the flight has to be under your name and it has to be return departing from AUS. It also has to be purchased through the QANTAS website. Cannot be done through an agent etc. Easy process though, just sending them a receipt.

The gym membership discount is easy. Just give them your AIA account number and the monthly debit is half your membership. I'm with Virgin Active and it's half the amount.

Any other questions? Happy to clarify.

    Cheers

    • I don't pay on top of the policy for AIA, just the flat $8.38/fortnight through RAC. Checked when I joined up, and got confirmation that that's all I needed to access AIA.

Eta: Cheers for the clarifiaction on Qantas mate, appreciate it.

      • No problem! They seem pretty chilled on the qantas thing. Just don't go try and pull a dodgy and change names later… i've heard it ending VERY bad for someone haha.

But i'm still not convinced by the rest of it, you 100% sure you have the AIA Vitality membership? You can have a policy underwritten by AIA, but i'm pretty sure you need to pay the $10 a month fee for the actual benefits. The only way to get that $10 a month fee is to actually have a minimum spend on your policies from AIA.

When did you join? I'm curious if it's maybe changed

        • 100% sure mate. I can log in to AIA on the site and app on my phone, am accruing points on AIA and was able to click through the site to activate my discount at Virgin.

I signed up about 3 weeks ago, to Life Protect with RAC here and 3 days after joining, got the email to activate AIA Vitality. No extra costs, and I've just been billed the $8.38 from RAC, no extras.

Emailed to make sure when I joined, and got the following reply from AIA:

"Thank you for your Vitality email.

The Vitality Membership Fee will be built into the premium paid for your RAC policy, so if it is quoted to you as $9 a fortnight, that is it, you will not need to pay any additional fees for Vitality Membership!"

        • @goatcorn:

Which policies did you take out? I'm curious if it's taking it out of your super.

          http://www.aia.com.au/content/dam/au/en/docs/Adviser/aia-vit…

Page 3: $10 a month to join and become an AIA Vitality member
Page 9: $300 minimum premium per year

I'm so confused. This lines up with what my financial adviser told me

        • @dutchcakes: Just Life Protect, through RAC online. Can't tell you why it's not lining up with what your adviser told you, but I've tripled checked everything and literally the only payment is the $8.38 a fortnight coming out of my debit card for Life Protect.

        • I'm pretty sure its still $10 per month for the "vitality" program on top of the policy. I'm paying for that.

however, my policy is under $30 a month.

        • @lawyerz: Double and triple checked, $8.38 is my total cost per fortnight.

        • @goatcorn:

I thought it would be $10/m ont op as well, as that is the rate for Vitality when you have an AIA insurance policy.

The difference that I noticed was that the normal AIA vitality provides a 12.5% policy premium discount whereas this deal through RAC does not. That may be where the $10/m fee is accounted for.

        • @sassypants: Could well be. Odd though, a big difference between $16.76 a month inclusive of AIA through RAC, and 20something a month PLUS $10 on top for AIA.

    • Do you have to be a new Virgin active member.
Can you join AIA and get the 50% discount applied to your existing membership?

      • Yep you can get it applied to your current membership, as long as you're not on a contract still.

    • Just wondering if they accept Qantas business class?

  • Anytime Fitness member here trying to figure out if this is worth the hassle.. Correct me if my maths is off:

Cheapest access to AIA Vitality via RAC is $217.88 per year.

Anytime Fitness membership will be $714 per year.

Discount to Anytime Fitness membership will be -$400 per year.

Voucher value via points is -$60 per year.

Overall (including value of voucher), Anytime Fitness membership will be $471.88 per year (or $39.32 per month).

My current membership isn't too far off that mark so probably not worth it for me but definitely a good deal if you are a new member!

    • -1

you can get more than $60 in vouchers per year, I joined in jan, and i'm up to $80 in vouchers, soon to get my next vouchers. of course there are other benefits however if you have a legacy gym membership, its probably cheaper then this whole deal. Also my insurance is paid for out of my super the only thing i'm paying for out of pocket is $120 for vitality. I have more cover than what my industry super provided me with (REST super) for about the same price. Plus my financial adviser gives a free gift of a garmin fitness tracker to help you earn points.

  • This is a really good post. Thanks OP for this. Is this offer only for a limited time?
I'm currently with Fitness First, and considering switching to Virgin Active.
As there's too many thing to read, can anyone please advise what's the cheapest way to join AIA to enjoy those benefits?
    Thanks

    • I don't think it's limited, just seems to be one of the offers they have. Cheapest way to join AIA I found is take out RAC Life Protect for (for me) $8.38/fortnight. Wait 3 days, get activation link to AIA Vitality, sign up there and you're good to go.

      • -1

I have aia insurance Life and tpd, paid out of my super. so i'm only paying for the membership. I highly recommend seeing an adviser before just joining any insurance, I have made a recommendation to my adviser purely because they are independent and they give out free garmin fitness trackers.

        • how do you get access to AIA vitality via rest Super - I've called and they said the policies are with REST and not AIA directly therefore no access to the vitality program.

  • This is a great incentive to keep fit - it also offers great rewards.

I have this policy myself and have got plenty of benefit out of it. I'm also a Financial Planner and run Wattle Financial Planning.

Just bear in mind that personal insurance is important and that getting the right policy is important for your future financial wellbeing. Going for the cheapest option is great to join this rewards program, but may not be the best if you need to claim?

There are a few ways to pay for insurance - Happy to assist any Ozbargain members who are looking to protect themselves comprehensively.

    • +2

Good point, if you're going to get a policy probably better to spend the extra few bucks to make it functional for you as well.

  • +1

Also worth mentioning if you take up income protection which includes AIA vitality, it is tax deductible.

  • So if I want to join Virgin active.. i may aswell get the minimum RAC insurance, costing around $4 per week. Then 50% off membership is $16.. so for around $20 a week I get gym and RAC.
How does the 50% get reimbursed? What order do i do it in for virgin gym? aia first, then sign up to gym?

    • +1

      Join RAC

3 days later get an activation link to join AIA Vitality

Once you're logged in to AIA Vitality there'll be a page that tells you about the offers. Click on the Virgin one, and it'll take you to a special page on Virgin's site where you can join up, and it shows the discounted rate. Alternately I believe you can join in the branch, by providing your AIA number and get the same discount. Basically AIA first then Virgin, you're right.

For Virgin it's no reimbursement, just a flat 50% off the fee.

  • +1

I just got a quote for RAC income protection. Chose minimum monthly benefit, 90 day waiting period and minimum 6 month benefit period.

Premium was $7.89 a fortnight, includes AIA vitality and is tax deductible, so for me personally, cost of premium is ~$5.40 after tax.

  • Thought lawyerz post was good but the joining through RAC makes this a better bargain.

    • +1

im pretty jealous that my post just got 20+ votes but this has 50+ votes at time of writing.

  • What happens if you cancel the aia subscription after getting the discount… Would that also cancel the discount

    • I believe so, yeah.

    • yea, because the aia vitality program is tied to your insurance

  • +3

I'm already a member at anytime fitness paying $45 a month, would I be able to stay on the same plan or do I have to sign up for a new membership at $60 a month?

    • I found this:

"If you have an existing Anytime Fitness membership, simply contact your club and you will be upgraded to a new AIA 12 month minimum term. If you are currently on a higher monthly fee, please speak to the club staff to get it adjusted to reflect the lower rate. Provide your AIA Vitality membership number and you can start earning cashback and be entitled to AIA Vitality Points for your club visits!"

I'm not sure if it means that we have to recontract to 12 months again even if we've been for 6 months or something.

      • +1

I was not on a contract when I signed on and still am not on a contract after that.

        • Great. Will speak to the gym manager to see if he's aware of this!

  • +1

great find. I like the motivation of going to the gym more to get more % off, good motivation for life insurance companies to encourage people to be active.

any chance of a RACV link also? I just renewed mine.

I let my anytime fitness membership lapse last year.

What would be the cheapest/best value method for Fitness first? vs Anytime?

Is RAC income protection the way to go?

  • so if I got to platinum then booked a first class qantas flight to Europe - would they really give me 50% of that flight cost back?!!?

    • +1

Yes… BUT, It's ONLY for economy / premium economy.
We have the Vitality setup through our work. I've been with them for about 6 months and have Boost juice vouchers coming out of my ears. Also racked up about $60 worth of JB vouchers and am about to get another one for $60. I'm using their discounted Virgin gym membership too.
From memory, the flights you pay in FULL, then Qantas / AIA reimburse you for that you're eligible for (Ie: 10%-50%) depending on your AIA Level.

  • "As an AIA Vitality member, you get access to AIA Vitality discounted movie vouchers of up to 70% which you can redeem at HOYTS, CMAX, Majestic and Grand Cinemas." Really 70%??? If you are a movie buff, this is perfect!

There must be T&Cs right guys?

  • I'm already a fitness first member as a passport member ($67.4 a month - I had a 20% off offer) and I want to change to new plan of platinum ($104 a month), I am able to change, but what discount do I get? it says UP TO 50%.

It states "In addition to the discounted monthly fee, if you attend a Fitness First club 24 times per quarter we’ll give you a 20% cash back. That’s only twice a week, and more money in your back pocket."
What is the discounted monthly fee? would it be that 30% and going to gym twice a week will add up to 50%?

I Also want to do 18 month contract so its cheaper compared to 12 month.

    Hey Guys,

Posting to chip in my 2c's on how it's going so far for me.
I applied today, made plenty of enquiries to AIA vitality, RAC, and anytime fitness (who I'm currently with). They all seemed to know what I was talking about so it made it a bit easier. I got the Life protect policy @ $8.12/fortnight, apparently you can get slightly less coverage over the phone vs online meaning a cheaper a slightly cheaper insurance premium.

I expect to get my AIA vitality membership activation details in the next 48 hours, and my Gym manager is ready to upgrade my contract to include my AIA vitality benefits. I do need to go in and sign a new contract but I will be saving 45c/month as I was previously on $59.95/month and will be upgrading to $59.50/month.

I will say I'm surprised more people aren't leaning towards the income protection insurance from RAC as it has a slightly cheaper premium, but to each their own. I wasn't sure what to get so I went with the safer option as Life Protect seems to be what people are talking about on this thread.

Overall, I am very pleased with this deal so far and hope it continues to travel as smoothly as everyone seems to say it will.

    • I couldn't get income protect, as I'm a student currently - didn't think to put that it might be cheaper so good looking out there!

Hope it carries on going smoothly for you :)

    • Life insurance has its benefits.

If I don't visit the gym after paying all the fees. I know my family will get a little lump sum from my early death.

  • +1

Signed up last night for AIA life protect for about $8 something a fortnight - got access to AIA vitality and went through the portal to sign up for Virgin for 50% of their $37 weekly rate with a $135 activation fee. Signed up in the morning and went that same afternoon today to grab my card and starter kit.

Pretty simple process and looks like some good savings to be had for a $4 weekly outlay!

    • Awesome news, especially that it's all come through so quickly for you!Check out the climbing wall at Bourke St sometime, once you've had the induction you can climb alone there and it's incredibly fun. The classes are awesome too, this is first time I've ever been excited to exercise!

      • thank you for posting the deal! I was given a tour of the facility - new pool with 5 lanes just got installed. I am keen for that rock climbing wall and the rest pods and the ridiculous variety of classes such as kickboxing, yoga.

        • Haven't seen the one at Bourke since it opened, but the spa area at Collins is awesome - lounger seats you can sit in underwater and have the spa jets on you.

If you're in to yoga, Collins St has Anti-gravity yoga classes that look pretty different, using 'Anti-Gravity Hammocks'. I go to the Meditation one before class, and it's nice to just chill in a hammock for a bit haha.

Hope you enjoy it - glad the deal's turned out to be useful.

  • +1

I just signed up for RAC income protect at 7.89/fortnight so will look out for my AIA membership to come soon

Thinking about joining fitness first - wondering if anyone was able to get the 30%+20% discounts on a better rate than the website rate? and if they will waive the joining fee? When joining up any gym initially, you have to notify them of your AIA vitality membership? I'm assuming that if they know that you're already getting a better rate it will be less likely they will do those things.

    Thanks again for the post.

    • +1

Hello! Just wondering how you went with signing up to fitness first as I am tempted to follow your steps.

Also do you need to pay $10 monthly fee for vitality program on top of the income protection insurance premium?

      Thank you!

  • Curious if anybody has tried these discounts with along with personal trainer at Anytime/Fitness First , if yes how much were the charges.
Anybody still with them can confirm this.

  • After a long time, now I just have some time to carefully read this thread and start to apply for it.

Just a question before I do it: I don't understand why AIA Vitality only accept Virgin Active's Active Me flexible membership?

If after signing up for RAC and receiving AIA Vitality membership, can I go to Virgin club and sign up there providing them with my AIA membership number? Wondering if I can select the 12 month membership to pay less on Activation Fee ($100 difference here is quite steep).

    Has anyone tried it before?

    Cheers

    • As far as I can remember the Virgin offer is only for the flexible membership, unfortunately.

      • Thanks a lot goatcorn.

Can I join at the club after having my AIA Vitality membership number?

Is there a minimum term of RAC policy, or I can cancel it whenever I wish?

        Thanks again.

  • Look such a good deal. Just signed up to income protect, which promises the same aia vitality membership. Thanks!

  • I have AIA insurance through my super. Any idea how i joun AIA Vitality via that?

  • Can I connect this to Samsung Health? :(

  • +1

Just signed up and came across this page when logged in. It is a comparison of the different partner gym memberships and their prices. Might be useful for people looking to take advantage of the deal.

  • Hi, I am thinking of joining Virgin Active, any recommendation/saving tip? I don't have AIA Vitality membership but can I buy, join Virgin for 12 months and cancel AIA vitality?

  • Does anyone know if there are any referrals for Virgin gym members? I believe there might be a week trial pass or even a reduction in the joining fee?

    TIA!

    • As the original poster and a current member, I can confirm that they have changed the referral deal to only a lululemon gift card to the referrer only.

  • +1

Can anyone with AIA membership confirm if the $59.99 price of Anytime Fitness membership no longer applies and that you only get 10% off standard prices instead?

    • If you're still around, I just signed up and called a few of the AF gyms and none of them was doing the $59.95 price anymore.

      • That's unfortunate, I was thinking of signing up to an AF near me!

  • Did anyone manage to reduce the 135 activation fee with the AIA Vitality? Really keen to join with the discount, but the discount only applies to the flex membership is really not that economical anymore. Please help :) :)

    • If you haven't already signed up, it worked for me with zero activation fee.
      My breakdown:
RAC Income Protection - 3.957 (Weekly) + 18.98 (Weekly- Flexible) + $0 Activation Fee = $22.95 (Weekly) Worked out pretty cheap for me against $42 (Weekly).

My home club is Collins Street, which is a bit expensive $42 a week (Actual Fee) + 0 Activation Fee.

      • Hey I know this is a really old thread, but how did you get $0 activation on the flex account?

        • I think there is a promotion going on for AIA Vitality members. Below is the text on AIA Vitality website.

          //

        • I recently signed up 2 days ago and I didn't have to pay that activation fee.

However, from what I asked, Anytime doesn't do the $59.95/month anymore. It is now 10% of what the gyms rate is (for Anytime Fitness), or 30% off for any Fitness First.

        • @vicccta:
Did you sign up for virgin active or Anytime? Should've taken advantage of the deal when it was first posted!

  • I am a financial adviser and the cheapest policy I have been able to write with AIA that was eligible for Vitality was a $100,000 life insurance policy through superannuation that cost $114.03 p.a for a 25 year old female at standard rates and level premiums. With the $120 p.a. Vitality membership fee the total cost is only $234.03 and will remain the same in future years due to level premiums.

Whilst I would encourage everybody to make sure that their insurance cover is sufficient, if there is anybody who is looking for a cost-effective way to access Vitality (funded through super or personally) please feel free to send me a message and I can advise how to workaround the usual minimum premium cost for personal insurance.

    • Hi Jrance,

This is a lot of benefit for very little cost. It seems that those on the program get much more benefit than what they need to pay out in premiums which does not seem to be a good business model for the long term.

Any idea how AIA make money out of all of this?
      Thanks

    • Hi jrance,
Can you please message me as I am unable to message you.
      Cheers.

    • Sorry to bump this, but hi jeanne could you help me out with this too? Thanks!

      • jrance* autocorrect

    • Sorry jrance that I have to bump this as well but could you possibly help me with an insurance policy too? (unable to message you)

    • Same here too!

    • Same here need help with joining vitality

    • Just to add to this I am 34 years old and signed up on $150,000 Life insurance.

      Pay $8 a fortnight

      so 208 per year.

I dont pay $10 AIA monthly fee that some people pay… so try to avoid that.

Also some financial advisors give a free garmain fitness device

      • @AussieMark If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to do that and are you able to connect your existing AIA Vitality account or do you need to start over? I've been looking around online but not having any luck finding decent offers that are comparable to what I'm currently paying.

        • To clarify that is what I'm on but they are ending it.

It seems some insurers weren't or aren't charging the AIA vitality $10 monthly fee

  • Is this deal ending in 4 days? Can anyone confirm?

Qantas flight benefit is being removed at the end of October. Being replaced by Virgin with very limited destinations!

    • +1

Terrible change! This devalues the program significantly. Written to AIA to bring Qantas back

      • +1

Same here have written to them

        • +1

Hopefully with enough members writing they will see what a bad idea this change is!

          • @Pink Lavender: It might not be them that initiated the change, it could have been QANTAS.

            • @SeaWolf au: Anyone had a look a look at the available flights now? It's ridiculous (unless I'm doing something wrong) because the cheapest flights are not eligible for discount!

              • +1

@llanfachreth: Yeah, I've noticed that the new T&C says that "selected Getaway" fares may be available. Also Premium Saver doesn't seem to be available either on the LAX route. Any kind of codeshare seems to make it non-eligible (SYD-LAX-SFO where LAX-SFO is on Delta doesn't work) which is a pain.

This reenforces my theory that it was QF that decided this wasn't working out for them though. I'm guessing when you got a cashback there would have been some sort of split of who was paying the cashback between AIA and QF. For AIA a cheap fare would mean it cost them less and worked well, for QF it would have meant reduced profitability on the fares with the lowest profitability already, potentially even making the ticket unprofitable. When the contract came up for renewal QF probably offered terms that AIA thought weren't great and they would have approached VA who seems to have offered better conditions. That's all just speculation, but it makes sense.

The QF cashback deal was great while it lasted but obviously someone in the process felt it wasn't a good deal for them and so they ended it.

                • @SeaWolf au: The change was done by AIA not Qantas. Can't disclose reason but they won't be going back to Qantas. It's fully subsidised by AIA, nothing to do with the airline

    • permanently residing in Queensland or at an address with an Eligible Postcode and be:

I just had an update from RAC WA that I was no longer eligible. Seems to be difficult for NSW residents to get access to this now. Apparently life insurance direct offer AIA but seems to cost a fair bit more.

Did anyone get the email today about them cancelling AIA vitality memberships unless you're in the same state as your insurer?
