Has anyone else had issues with their xiaomi mi band 2 and recording heart rate? Mine used to record the heart rate but it has stopped working for over a month now and fixes on the internet seem to use a third party app to patch the issue which I am not willing to do.

    • +2

MIne stopped. And then I bluetooth connected it to my phone and it ended up working again.

I Believe the band does not have heaps of room in the watch to store heaps of data so it needs to be regularly paired to the phone to dump the data.

      • Interesting. I pair with my phone everyday to track my sleep data though, so it's not that

        • +2

I find it also slows down in syncing speed over time. Not sure why though.

        • @adrianhughes1998: my mother's one does that now and doesn't track her sleep anymore

        • @Lizard Spock: My sleep tracking seems way off for what it IMO should be. It does still track mine, though. My heart rate works. Tested it on the cardio machines at the gym and surprisingly showed the same rate.

        • +5

@adrianhughes1998: I've had mine for 6 months, wearing it pretty much 24/7, only problem I've ever had with it syncing is sometimes the phone doesn't see it to start with but a connection reset in the app fixes it.

FWIW, I don't use Mi Fit, (far too limited plus not really interested in being part of MI-ecosystem), using Notify & Fitness for Mi Band instead and uninstalled Mi Fit.

        • @4wd: Can you read text and whatsapp messages with the Notify & Fitness for Mi Band app? I saw a youtube clip with scrolling text for an incoming call but would be keen if it also worked for messages. Thanks

        • +1

@4wd: I get it , u probably have a better experience cos of not using the stock Xiaomi app which does blow. Why they don't fix the syncing issues and just integrate it with mi home for example is beyond me.

        • +2

@Dbuiz: Not sure, I only need it to notify me that I've got a message, since it requires the phone to do that it's easier to pick up the phone than try and decipher what's scrolling on the screen.

N&FfMB added filtering for messages which was what I wanted, eg. notify on a match for 'fred' on an incoming Tweet and ignore everything else.

It says it can display Caller name - Notification text if you're running the latest MiBand firmware, there's a tutorial here for updating it:
          https://miband-mc200x.rhcloud.com/help/firmware1_0_1_14

Mine is currently running firmware 1.0.1.34

It doesn't say the Text Display Support is a PRO feature (ie. pay for), so you can always try it out and see if it works.

        • +1

@adrianhughes1998: Yeah, I used Mi Fit for a couple of days then switched to Tools & Mi Band (paid) but it wasn't really what I was after either.

Switched to N&FfMB (paid) after a couple of weeks and haven't used anything else since.

Every so often (every couple of months) I'll restore Mi Fit from a Titanium Backup and see if it updates with an attendant firmware update, then uninstall it.

FWIW, I'm using it with a Redmi Note 2 running CyanogenMod 12.1

          @Lizard Spock:
She must sleep walk a lot

        • +2

@31mop: that explains the high step count at 3am

        • +1

@4wd: nice nice on all accounts with the phone too. Yeha i tried it a month back and it displays the name with SMS but definitely more functionality with other apps. Interesting to see what Mi Band 3 brings.

News today that said Xiaomi are now number two for wearables sales in the past year - they have leapfrogged quite some percentage points

        • @4wd: Dammit, should of been a .php on the end of that URL:

          https://miband-mc200x.rhcloud.com/help/firmware1_0_1_14.php

I fixed my mi band 2 hear rate by downgrading its firmware. You can upgrade its firmware after that.

      • Will the app allow you to downgrade the firmware?

      • If you can let me know how to downgrade the firmware that would be greatly appreciated.

    • MIne stopped when I cleaned it under the tap… but it started working again.

    • Mine never had an issue. But the heart reader is crap anyway.

    • Have 3 bands, and all stopped reading heart rate. One was on an old firmware, and when I updated all good. Other 2 on latest firmware I haven't got going again yet - but haven't really tried.

  • +8

I'm wearing one right now, great device. As far as I can tell it does the job of a fitbit for a hundred dollars less.

    • +2

While I do like the miband, I did stop using it as it can't store heart rate data without your phone which made it useless for tracking workouts which a fitbit can do

    • +6

The battery life is insane as well. I've hadn't charged mine for close to a month and it's sitting on 20%.

      • +1

Even with the sleep assistance feature on I get 25+ days. Far cry from my fitbit that needed a charge every 3 days

      • Really? Damn I'm definitely doing something wrong. Mine only lasts 7 days these days…

      • +1

My band 2 was/is like that as well. I went back to band 1S though as its sleep monitoring is more accurate for some reason. Band 2 wouldn't detect awake times at all where the 1S does. Sleep assistant enabled on both. I'm currently wearing the 1S that has 17% battery left, last charge 35 days ago.

I do like them both, they are awesome for the price.

  • I don't have one but would suggest to do a data reset if such a feature exists. Most of these trackers record data and don't flush it all out properly, so a reset after sync should provide some improvement.

  • cost me 28.52AUD each, I guess because I didn't change currency to USD.

had to put in 2 separate orders to get that price on 2 devices (on the same account)

Hopefully this one won't go Gamissing en route!

    • +1

      Hey mine showed up….

Selected insurance though, so maybe they use a better mail carrier then.

    • paypal to the rescue for me, got my money back very quickly

  • I had one, but it was taken by one of my kids, now i've had to purchase another 2 for my other kids…
they are very good for the money.

  • Call notifications on iOS?

    • Yes, vibrates and displays the caller's name. Does the same for SMS.
      Doesn't always work though.

    • It vibrates when someone called but can't display name for some reason.

  • i ordetrd one at banggood january this year still waiting- damn——

  • +3

ordered, refund escalation for the gamiss debacle is getting raised tomorrow :)

    • +1

What was the gamiss debacle? I got mine from gamiss. In only about 2 weeks.

      • many many people are still waiting, 2 months since shipping

        • I ordered mine from Gamiss last Dec and still waiting :(

        • @bartoq: Same! But I just got a parcel collection card in the mail so we'll see if it is in fact the Mi Band 2.

        • I ordered mine on 3rd Jan and still not delivered.

        • +1

Damn, maybe I ordered early was just lucky.

        • +1

@callumds: Mine arrived fast as well. I ordered later than most. (18th Jan)

        • Me 2

        • i was told by support it was "lost by the shipping company"
          was offered partial refund :S

        • Same thing happened to me, been waiting since the 3rd of Jan. I already accepted the partial refund..maybe I shouldn't have if I realised it was such a widespread problem..

        • claimed my money back through paypal got it pretty quick no fuss,

  • For some reason it only comes down to ~29.90. Discount code applied, free shipping, no tax/insurance etc.

Is it meant to be $34.31 before you add to cart?

    • +2

change currency to USD, then it will be $19.90USD after discounts

    • +1

      I am getting this
      Subtotal( 1 item ):AUD $ 34.31
      (+) Shipping Charges & Insurance:AUD $ 0.70
      (-) Coupon Savings:AUD $ -5.72
      GRAND TOTAL:AUD $ 29.29

      this includes insurance

and changed it to USD now ordered for US$20 + US$0.48 = USD20.48 paid with paypal in AUD28.09

      • i get AUD $28.59

        • +1

$28.59 is without shipping insurance of $0.70.

        • That currency change worked for me. Interestingly Paid USD 20.48. But the invoice said USD 23.99. I confirmed via PayPal that I actually paid 20.48. So, I think it's a good commentary on the fluidity of the international currency exchanges.

But changing to USD and un-selecting certain things (excepting insurance) did the trick. Thanks to SBOB

Gave cashrewards a shot. Unlikely to pay out, but a couple of bucks extra saving if it does ($2.52)

  • +5

Bought 1 each for my kids (3) on the condition that they give the iPad and computers a break for a bit and do some exercise👍

    • Did you manage to get a discount for all three?

I am only getting the same $4 off when trying to purchase multiple.

      • I made 3 seperate orders and applied the code each time went through cashbackrewards for the last 2 transactions even though I am not a huge fan of them.

        • Thanks ausbob

  • YOu device might get held up at customs like mine did last year….. dont be surprised if it turns up 8 weeks after purchase.
not sure if its sorted now.

    • Do these custom and excise people contact you if something is blocked at custom? Or it's like leaving to the GOD

      • Nobody contacts you… its left up to God.. but God did deliver a few weeks later…
It did seem dosgy at the time.. I hope they've sorted out their process now.. otherwise just sit back and wait for it…
The problem was heaps of other deals on the same thing came up on Ozbargain from other sellers.
That was just my experience.. I'd still try them out again, as it didn't seem like an issue on their end.

  • this device is really good.

CONS: doesn't count the steps properly or give accurate heart rate reading.

PROS:I use the mi band tool app, and it reads the messages and notifications on the mi band 2 and when someone calls it vibrate until you pick it up. very useful product. recommend everyone to buy it. especially at this price.

    • Agree with the cons - Mine records almost double the number of steps of my partner's fitbit and my Samsung phone. Absolutely useless as a step counter.

      • This totally defeats the purpose…Thanks for the headsup. I was planning to get one to track my steps and calories lost

    • It sounds like it's garbage?

  • Is this a real or a fake?

  • +2

Check everbuying.net as there it is always about this price. No need to rush.

    • $26.47 US at Everbuying.net? That's actually more than a lot of websites.

  • anyone know where to get a replacement original band? i can only find knockoffs..

tried a few non original ones and i dont trust them with it not popping out and being lost… the original band is pretty great at holding the damn thing, big improvement on the miband 1s.

    • I was looking at buying some coloured ones from eBay.

      • yeh i got a few diff ones, they're all the same and not quite as good as the proper xiaomi one. its okay, but it doesnt sit quite flush, and it doesnt have the elastic cover gripping it.

i cant find anywhere that just sells the official xiaomi wrist band on its own.

  • Anyone know how to pair the device to another phone?

    • Just download the Mi Fit app on the other phone and try pair it I guess.

    • You need to unpair or deregister it from the original phone first as it seems to have some form of registration with xiaomi. I found one of these bands on the beach and tried to find the owner via contacting xiaomi but they couldn't give me any email contact for owner.

If it's not deregistered then it doesn't seem possible to use it with xiaomi software however you can use it with third party software once you figure out how to pair it, there is some app that helps do that but unsure of the name offhand. Something about the device being hidden and needing to find its MAC address instead. I'm travelling at the moment but will see if I can find further details.

Edit: this page should help if you no longer have access to the original phone it was paired with.
      http://en.miui.com/thread-172180-1-1.html

      • Thank for helping, had tried to search and tried every possible hack, it did not work. Not that the device is broken, the mi band Notify apps work fine.

Trying now to wait the battery to drain off, which is a lengthy process after 2 weeks tried to pair with another phone (heavily use) and yet there still 50% left.

Advice: start with the phone u r going to use with. (My is intended for a friend, unable to pair with now)

        • Draining the battery fully did not let me pair another phone with my found miband at least not with the xiaomi app. However the method in the link above did work to allow me to pair with my phone without deregistering with xiomi but works with third party apps only. Unsure if it's possible to update firmware using above method though, I don't think so.

        • +1

@Gravy: Notify & Fitness for Mi Band (N&FfMB) says it can update the firmware using the Mi Fit apk, so you only need download it from the Play store using one of the apk download sites.

eg. APKPure download com.xiaomi.hm.health, install N&FfMB, go to Tools->Update Firmware, then choose the local apk file.

And if you want to drain the battery faster, use one of the third party apps and turn on everything that causes the band to vibrate, eg. vibrate before heart rate and set a short reading cycle, vibrate on emails, etc, etc.

If there's one thing that kills the battery quick in this thing it's the vibrator, used to be I only got ~3 weeks on a charge, now I get 4+ weeks, (currently 67% after 10 days with Sleep Assist on and heart rate reading every 4 hours).

        • @4wd: great tip thanks and you are not wrong about vibrators, the eneloops are taking a caning.

        • @Gravy: The N&FfMB firmware updater is a beta feature, you still need to use the Mi Fit app to get text notification working as only that can update the fonts correctly.

But it can't hurt to give it a try.

        • @4wd: ah ok. Will give it a try when I get back to oz.

        • @Gravy: Something I just found that looks interesting: GadgetBridge available on F-Droid, also says it can update the firmware.

Read the wiki first since you could brick your device.

  • Have had this for 5 months. The latest firmware updates have really fixed the accuracy of the heart rate monitor. Battery lasts about 2 and a half weeks which is great!

  • Reckon I should buy this or wait for the mi band 3? Not sure what other functionality I'd be after but I'd be using it mainly as I cycle to uni

    • Do you need one? Its pretty cheap. Between the mi band 1 and 2 there was a 2 year gap. This thing has been out for half a year. The interim successor the 1s came more than a year later

      • Not sure if I need one, but it is quite cheap… I'll probably get it anyway cos it is a massive trek to take out my phone to check the time

        • +2

Just buy, think later. (I'm happy with mine)

  • I just bought mine from taobao their Chinese official site, cost me 159rmb, (around 30AUD) so this site is even cheaper!

  • +1

Since receiving mine from Gamiss on the 9/02 I have only charged mine twice, Battery is very good.
First fitness band I have had and it's seems very good yes it's not perfect but for the price…

    • +1

I have only charge mine once in over a month and that's with notifications turned on. I was using it for sleep tracking but after a couple of weeks gave up on that as I don't see the point personally. Great device I have ordered 3 more for my kids and have had numerous people asking about it.

      • +1

You know I think I have only charged mine once lol when I first got it
When I wrote the comment I was trying to remember when I had actually charged it and yes with everything running.
It stayed on 100% for a week and I thought its not displaying the correct battery life,
then it went down slowly, now it's on 41% :)

  • $27.34 total for me no insurance. Never received my item from Gamiss so happy to pay abit extra guaranteed it arrives…

  • Tempted to get one, but am unsure whether Xiaomi will release a Mi Band 3 this year.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!
hopefully this one comes through unlike my order from Gamiss

    • Haha I'm still in the middle of a Paypal dispute with them. Reckon I should order this or maybe hope Gamiss will send me a new one?

  • Cashrewards is telling me 8% cashback with lightinthebox too!

    • Didn't include it as they usually don't work with coupons. Give it a shot and see ;)

    • It registered my clicks, but wont know for a while if the actual cashback applies since that can take ages to show up.

  • Edit; Wrong company
