Hey buddy ..Just wondering if you have noticed this mattress sinking due to weight after some time?
It looks pretty simple on the website and makes me thinking what's special about it.I purchased a double Koala mattress last year, it felt medium- soft and was extremely comfortable for the first 4 weeks, however eventually I noticed that the middle began to dip (FYI I weigh 60kg, like to sit on the bed and always tend to sleep in the same spot)
Unfortunately I had to return it after 10 weeks due to shoulder and hip pain as my torso and hip would slightly sink into the bed as I slept. Easy and quick refund process so I recommend that you give it a go at least because you've nothing to lose.
I then bought an Ozmattress double in the MOD medium firm. I've had it for about 2 months now, and although it didn't feel as comfortable as the Koala mattress did during those initial 4 weeks (which was really fantastic, like sleeping on a cloud), but it's not causing any pain so I think I'll stick with it.

Hey mate ..Apologies for late reply. I have had it for around 14 months now. It hasn't gone down and has been comfortable. I have never felt it hot to be honest.

I'm using one fo these at the moment, I don't hate it but I don't love it. It's a big bunch of meh, my sleeps have been pretty average on it, thery're not particularly firm either, which I prefer. I'm gonna send in back and try one of the other brands that say they have a firm option.
The sleeping duck brand are supposed to be good for this kind of thing, they come with inserts so you can try the different options before committing to it.

Am currently looking as well. Mattress buying is deliberately confusing so you can't compare like mattresses in different stores. All leading brands seam to call their mattress a different name depending on the store, while being almost the same. 50% off sales seem common as well so that seems to be the "fair" retail price. Not much help sorry, but let me know how you go.
I think with Mattress you will just have to go in-store and try lying on them. Whenever you find a fit try to find them online to see if you can do cheaper, if not then just buy it.
You spend a quarter of your life on it, I wouldn't go cheap with mattress.

I agree with the testing but would prefer to test it out by sleeping on it for a few nights to get a better feel for it. Most of the online companies will have a refund return period which is a bonus.
Whatever you do, don't assume that "you get what you pay for" when shopping for mattresses. There have been large numbers of articles about crazy mark ups and terrible value in the Australian mattress industry.

Costco has good quality mattresses for around $500 for a King or Queen. I cant remember the brand, I think they were Sealy?
Yes they are Sealy mattresses but I believe they are more in the $1000+ range. $1000 being for a single - mattress only. Maybe the price you are referring to is for ex-display?
I was there last weekend, they definitely had a queen and king mattress for around $500 - $600, just the mattress, no ensemble base. At the Auburn Sydney store, near the eye department.

ikea mattresses are absolutely dreadful. My partner has one that is ~2 years old and it has permanent body impressions in it, despite regular rotation. It is by far the worst mattress I have ever experienced and couldn't recommend ikea mattresses to anyone.

We recently shopped for mattresses - it's like buying a carpet from one of those eternal 'closing down carpet sales'.
Ridiculous markup price - hard to get handle on value.Anyway, went to Ikea - no bullshit - mattress was there and priced appropriately.
Got the HOKKÅSEN mattress Queen size for $699 + $39 delivery - initially wanted the cheaper HYLLESTAD which was only $499 but the Hokkasen was just more luxurious to lie in.
It's a pocket spring mattress with an additional layer of mini pocket springs and then memory foam or latex (depending on firm or medium) which you lie on.
Our mattress is on a wooden slat bed frame - went the firm.So far very happy with it. Of course, still early days - ask me again in 25 year ;)

But, obviously, the point is that Ikea don't make only one mattress.
It's not much use to say "Ikea mattresses suck" when they have a whole range from dirt cheap to premium stuff.
Nobody knows if you're talking about the dirt cheap mattress (where body impressions after two years of use by a heavy adult might still be better than anything else in this price range) or the fancy one.
We had the cheapest Ikea mattress - my son slept on it when he was 2, and it was perfectly fine. But clearly, no adult should be using a sub-$100 mattress for their main bed if they can afford something better.
@mgowen: Trying to get the model name now, however it seems they don't sell that model anymore (at least nothing on the website is ringing a bell). Price at the time was ~$700 for a double, so it wasn't a dirt cheap bottom of the range one.
You can take it back within 1 year and get store credit.
After shopping around for a mattress for ages, I went with an ikea one that comes rolled up and compressed.
It's been really great for the last year. I have a bad back and it's done just fine.
I could have paid $3000 instead of $400 or whatever I paid, but for all I know I'm sleeping in the $3k one right now and it's very snug. Perhaps not as much support around the outside of the bed but I never notice.
I'll leave the $2500 I saved in a bank account earning compounding interest. If I ever need another in a few years, I'll have plentiful money to finance it.
Have had the Hesseng queen (firm) for over 16 months. Both my partner and I can vouch for its quality and comfort. No sagging or permanent indentations so far. It will set you back around $1k from memory

I don't recall being offered incentive for leaving a review… I remember being pleasantly surprised about how comfortable it was. And I remember it was the first time in a long while that an online business operating in Australia actually impressed me, so I thought they deserved a good review
Really happy with my Sleeping Duck. Had it for about 3 years now. The only negative to these compressed & rolled mattresses is the side support will never be as good… not that I've ever found it a problem. It's only noticeable when you are sitting on the edge, and I prefer it because it gives a little instead of pressing into your thighs
We got ours in mid January and it's been pretty good. It's a bit firm so we asked to try a different topper (medium) on Tuesday, it's already been shipped.
So far, they've been really good and already offered another topper if this one doesn't suit us. (Plus we can keep the old ones, if I understand the email correctly)
We have been offered $25 to review it, but it only came 60 days after the purchase and it only suggests we give them honest feedback.
I put off buying a new bed for a long time due to the confusion in the marketplace, and just having no idea which way to turn so to speak.
In the end I could delay it no longer, as my osteoarthritis was keeping me awake most of the night. Whilst a new bed was no guarantee of relief, it couldn't do any harm, and probably the first thing the doctor would suggest, prior to looking at anything else. My old mattress was too firm, and was 14 years old, though still in very good condition, as I look after my stuff.
In the end I went with a Sealy Posturepedic in a Myer 50% off sale. They had a display set up outside the store at Southland one day, and out of curiousity, I went to have a look. Had a lie on the bed for awhile, as the saleslady chatted away about how good it was. It seemed to be ok, but as others have said, you need at least a week to trial it properly. Told her I'd think about it.
I went back a couple of days later and bought it. At $2999 marked down from $6000 odd, it was expensive, and maybe I paid too much, given the recent newspaper articles.
However, I am more than happy with this mattress and base. It took a few days to get used to it, but my back and hip problems are nowhere near as bad now, and I can sleep far more comfortably. It is a breeze to turn the mattress every couple of weeks, and I can move the bed easily to vacuum underneath etc. Previously I had a wooden base with a mattress. I cursed the day I bought that, as I couldn't move it.
No easy answers to this one. Everyone is different.

We have a mattress from ergoflex. It was cheap and I think it's ok in terms of softness/support but my god it gets really hot in the summertime. If you already know you want a memory foam mattress then I would recommend them otherwise I suggest sticking with a regular mattress.
I do like the memory foam from a support perspective, but I do agree with the heat issue. Not too bad but it is noticeable on hot nights. The best mattress we ever had to avoid hot spots was a water bed, but they are a pain to setup and you have to keep heating the water.
I got ergoflex and I cover the mattress in wool - helps a lot with the heat issue.
Oh yes I forgot to mention this - we've got a woollen mattress topper too. Thanks for the input :D

For me it was some mattress and frame from snooze in bankstown or forty winks.
They have a bed checker that helps you assess what bed strength is best for you.
To be honest I would've wanted to buy the checker itself because that bed was strong and had good upper body support all round.

I didn't have a good experience with Ozmattress. Ordered and paid online, received an email stating would hear 3 days later when delivery would be. Didn't hear from them, called, left messages (they don't have an office, just a phone service), nothing. Left messages asking when I could expect delivery, nothing. After one month I put in a paypal dispute and received an email from them stating supply issues and would I prefer a refund or delivery in the next week. I chose refund.

Ergoflex does the return and get money back. Ozmattress lets you exchange for another of their beds once. No refunds.
I wouldn't call it bad, but I have never ordered a bed without trying it so the refund option in a definite bonus for me.

I'm still happy with my Sleeping Duck. They had a showroom where you can try it out (properly, with time allocated and sheets and darkness). If not.. return for free! Service was great. Very happy with them. Nothing to lose if you don't like it. Will never show in a 'traditional' mattress shop again where you plonk down $$$ and can't return it if you don't like it!

Looks good and reasonably priced if you're in Melbourne. To Brisbane the freight is more than the cost of the bed.
I bought and have been using a OneBed for about 8 months. It's very good and I can honestly recommend it. But I think all those bed-in-a-box products are pretty similar and likely use a very comparable construction process and materials.
So OneBed/Koala/Ecosa etc will probably be quite equivalent. Unless anyone can give some feedback about a bad comfort experience with them?

We've gone through many mattresses because of back pain. Tried a couple of Ikea ones which were very bad, and also other spring mattresses of various brands and prices. Never had much luck.
Our current one is the ergoflex, which we've had for a few years now. I will never go back to a spring mattress. Full latex or memory foam is where it's at. If you are looking at ergoflex, remember they are regularly on 40%+ sale. Only problem with memory foam is the heat.
If you've had problem with a spring mattress before or have back problems or are overweight, go memory foam or latex. If you are a light weight and never had a problem with any spring mattress, just buy something cheap(ish) on sale. A brand you've heard of with 50%+ off and reinforced sides. Buy the cheapest one of this as it's a lottery and a more expensive one is probably not any better.
Can recommend ozmattress (if they're still as they were 4 years ago).
Bought a mattress and base from them 4 years back. They were prompt to respond to enquiries and offered helpful advice.
The mattress itself is top notch (got a grand master), no sagging yet or anything like that.
Cons would be the mattress is extremely heavy, so moving it is an issue. The base is light though, much lighter than the mattress.
I got a commercial mattresses - if it's good enough for a five star hotel it's good enough for me. The Langham Hotel had a 'Buy This Bed' thing going for a while and they were Sleepmaker commercial units. I had a great nights sleep and started digging around and found these guys, I'm sure there will be a similar dealer near you.

Some sharing of the various brands.
General characteristics:
1) Sealy - Titanium alloy springs make them a strong product, a little bounce and livelier, comes in many feels, comfortable and reliable product.
2) Sleepmaker - Excellent product with either standard or pocket springs. Very wide range offered, from lower to premium products. Very good product.
3) Sleep to Live - Tailored sleep surface (soft, med or hard) for partners that need different support. Great product for the couples that need or want something different from their partners. a little pricey but you get custom feel.
4) Madison - Lovely product with pocket springs, min partner disturbance. A Quality Product.
5) King Coil - Excellent product with both standard and pocket spring version. Very wide range offered. Quality Product.
There are many more which I can list but would encourage you to visit a store of your choice to try out the mattresses (whatever brands and whatever price that suits you budget). Caution, you get what you pay for, too cheap expect a shorter life and less comfortable sleep, or you can pay a lot but still end up unhappy.
IMPORTANT POINTS: Find a sales person you are comfortable with, not pushy, can furnish you with the specs, actually care about your well being, never feel pressured into buying, never buy because it's on sale, after purchasing it takes time to get used to your new mattress, mattresses cannot be returned (99% of the time) so make a good decision, never buy based on your friends recommendation alone because their body types are different from your body type.

I purchased 1 of these mattresses recently and they are soo comfortable. I then purchased another 5 for the family. I thought the reviews on the product review were dodge but they deserve such a good rating given how premium and comfortable they feel. They are ridiculous cheap like $360 for a king.

Will avoid.It's not a matter of pointing to poor reviews. It's how the company deals with problems when they occur. Look at all the accusations against negative reviews and attempts to discredit… a company should know not all customers will be happy. Their response should be apologetic and attempts should be to please the customer regardless of their opinion of or view of legitimacy to the customer's complaint. A clear immaturity in the business world.
Let's not forget the possibility of fake positive reviews as well - I seem to see a bunch of reviews written in similar prose. I'm not going to go as far to say that they are or aren't fake but a lot of the positive reviews are so over dramatised it begs the question how legit are they?
2 massive extremes here - one with unhappy customers with responses that make you cringe - and the other with customers so happy and over-the-moon almost having an orgasm over their mattress. I mean come on seriously?
Yes, I wasnt happy with their responses to others too but as it is for a spare room (not being used everyday) and price was so good, I thought I would try.

I ordered a medium firm marc blanc (double bed).I quite like it. I have not had slept on it overnight (as its going in the guest room) but have laid down on it and moved around etc.
I currently have a queen AH Beard, which I find too soft.
The marc blanc one is nice and firm. You don't get the "bounce" that my current one has

We got a GM for ourselves and a Supra for our 14year old.Well made mattresses and so far so good…Had them about 4 weeks.
I bought a queen Ecosa mattress in November 2015 ($800 with coupon code) and very much like it. It's firm but comfortable and continues to be today. It was my first online mattress purchase and I'm glad to have taken the risk. Was close to spending $2500-$3000 on a mattress and glad I didn't.
We bought a Koala, but I found too many little things I didn't like about it - particularly how hot it was. So Koala gave us the promised pick-up and refund near the end of the trial period. Next we bought an Ecosa (like youface); we like it very much and feel we've been sleeping more deeply, and it's much cooler. We've had it for ~8 months months now and it's a good deal.
I really appreciated the way these companies let you try the product at no risk - and Koala did everything they said they would without any hassle. I only see a recipe for disaster in spending thousands after a few minutes trial at a store.
I'm looking at an Ecosa also. I like a firm mattress (don't like to sink in too much) but I hate the springs digging into me on my current cheap old spring mattress.
Might as well take their 100 night trail offer, can't see how you would lose if you don't like it.

Tried it and it ended up donated to charity after a month. The so called medium firmness is so soft most of the body sinks into the mattress at the hips and chest leaving the stomach bent out of shape and pushed hard against the fabric. Most uncomfortable mattress I ever used and with no returns or refunds it's a complete waste if it doesn't suit you.
I've got one and find it to be very firm; which is how I like it.
Definitely no complaints from me.
Which does reinforce the point that whether there was a potential defect which caused dodgy springs or it was an issue with subjective body comfort Atelier didnt want to know about it and just enforce their no refund/exchange policy.

Mattress: IKEA hesseng firm. Not medium firm. It is a pocket spring mattress.
buy a 5cm natural latex topper, a wool topper on top too, then a mattress protector on top of it all.
This way, you create your own pillow top mattress that you can rotate properly (topper rotates independent of mattress).
Cheap and luxurious!
Pocket springs are a bad invention. Indidual spring movement = poor load distribution and wear = saggy spots = back pain. Get the hardest coil spring mattress you can. If you have a firm support you can put on e.g a latex topper for comfort if necessary.
Been using my $800 medium-firm Ozmattress with an Ikea bed-frame for two years now. Still very comfy!

Anyone know what mattresses the ibis hotels use? They're very firm (some might say rock hard), but I quite like it.
Personally i think mattress preference is really quite subjective, everyone prefers different qualities and as such, no one brand will ever be the best.
I've got both the ozmattress (supra soft) and sleeping duck (titan soft). The ozmattress is much more suited to my preferences as it provides great support whilst still providing that soft floating feel (some people might hate this). The sleeping duck is nice but it just isn't something I can really sink into after a long day at work, it's quite a bit firmer and has less elasticity than the ozmatress offering. I've also tried the sealy and sleepmaker beds and I think a similar product to the the two mattresses I've mentioned would probably cost around 2-3k from those guys.
If you are in vic check out Kimdan. They have one store in footscray that i know of. Im pretty sure they have few stores in sydney too. Pure latex. No rubber but dont jump to conclusion yet. It will not collapse no matter what. Best money i ever spend. Life time warranty. This is my second as you can exchange for a new one with reasonable price. It last me 15 years and still going strong, i changed for a new one because i just want something new thats all. Its not cheap though. Dont want to freak you out with the price but when you go pro you can never go back to those cheap latex or spring one

we purchased an amazing mattress when we moved out 3 years ago. Comfort Sleep Bedding.
We tried probably 200 mattresses from many many retailers and these beds (we paid something ridiculous like $1700 for a KING) and it's better than any bed we have slept on around the globe. the awards back my words lol
the whole experience buying mattrasses are just way too time and energy consuming.
for example we tried on at snooze and then googled the review, exact same type of firmness but some people said too soft some said too firm! wtheck…Reviews, especially on Productreview.com.au, seem to attract a lot of idiots. I find the Amazon rating system, which promotes more 'helpful' reviews, the best (but it's fair to say that my decent number of the reviews for any given product are not independent or unbiased).

We bought a queen size and a single size 2month ago, I'm very skeptic about this b4. But now I wonder why wouldnt I get it earlier. It make from 100 certified organic cotton. One for us one for little buddy.
They are both futon one, Im slight sleeper, but now I can feel a thing on the other side of the bed. 10yrs guarantee isnt that bad either.Choice Magazine did a review of mattresses once, and covered a lot of the marketing crap that is standard in the business. Maybe they have conducted an updated one.
I found it very useful to navigate my way through that particular maze.
If you're located in Sydney, I would recommend ausbeds. They are located in marrickville and George will sort you out. I was on a hunt for a new mattress 2 months ago and was tirelessly looking. Ended up buying a mattress from ausbeds myself. You have to go in and lay on the beds yourself as everyone is different and will have different opinions. You don't need to spend couple thousands for a bed.

This is very good timing - I'm just about to replace my 15yo Sealy Posturepedic which I bought secondhand, so it's been good value!
Before that I owned a latex mattress for 18 years (can't remember the brand, but not cheap) and I wore it out.
Much prefer the latex-style mattresses rather than inner spring, so I'm tempted by some of the locally produced models mentioned in this thread - especially with the long trial period and free return.
I've narrowed it down to these:
Greywing
Ecosa
Sleeping Duck
Ergoflex
KoalaOzmattress looks good, but their return scheme isn't very good, so that's out.
The ones I've mentioned all look very similar in terms of build, and there isn't a massive price differential between them in Queen size.
There's some comments here that these types of mattress are not good in hot weather (I live in Brisbane), however all these brands appear to have some form of air flow system to help with this.
Any further comment on these five brands that haven't been covered in the thread? Especially regarding the hot weather situation.
All the companies appear to be very similar to deal with, so I hopefully wouldn't experience any problems.

I think I would have gone with ozmattress considering their reviews in this discussion, but they are let down by their returns process.
Ecosa, ergoflex and Sleeping Duck etc almost seem interchangeable and will come down to personal preference. I like how the Sleeping Duck seems to be easily customisable though.

Had an ErgoFlex, returned it. Latex ones tend to sink in, and being a tummy sleeper, every morning it was painful just getting off of it.
I'd say, get one with the best return (not exchange) policy.
Mattress is something I wouldn't purchase on a whim. As others have said have a lie down for a while in the store. I would recommend you give the tempur mattresses a go. Depending on how 'big' you and your partner are, they can be excellent mattresses. For a bargain, they are usually more than 50% off their marked price (at Harvey Norman) and if you opt for floor stock(for hygiene, may be just the base), you can get even cheaper. They don't get overly hot, even in Darwin.
Try sleeping on it.
Get a Japanese Futon. Better for your back, cheaper, spatially efficient and less wasteful. Modern Western beds are overwrought and silly, a bit like the late SUV craze, alas.

If you're in Sydney, check out Homeland Furniture in Auburn (next to Super Amart) I bought a mattress for $300, but here me out, it's so solid. It's really firm with a tiny bit of soft plush on top.
I went to all the bedding stores in that area (like 10-15 within 3 minutes of each other) and tbh besides the $5000+ memory foam ones, I couldn't tell a difference between this and the more expensive mattresses. I've had it for about 6 months now and it's held up superbly.
I was extremely iffy with buying mattress online, especially if I was paying $1000+.
Edit: mine is a spring coil I'm pretty sure and I just had a look at the links you had and I retract everything I said, that Ergoflex Memory foam one looks good, and at around double the price (I bought a KS) it's probably more worth it cause it's memory foam.
I bought an Ozmattress Grand Master (queen size - firm) when it was on sale @ $1.8k about 4-5 years ago, still going strong and is really really comfortable.
The issue with OzMattress is that they don't allow prospective customers to test their mattresses first. They don't need a showroom to do this, just a few sqms at their warehouse for the mattress to sit while the customer tests it, so there shouldn't be any excuses.
They have a 100 day return policy from their site so if you don't like it you can send it back. I think it's far better than having 20 mins to test it at a store.
Their return policy is definitely inferior. I found it buried on their site:
We will arrange a replacement mattress of equivalent size and value with the option of a different feel or a chance to upgrade by simply paying the difference in price.
Others mentioned have a return and refund policy. Ozmattress have 1 replacement policy, no refund. Would have gone them otherwise. Definitely agree sleeping on a mattress for a few nights is better than 20mins in a showroom while sales staff tell you how good it is.
If I were to get a mattress, I'd get a another Sealy branded. Great quality beds
Happy OzMattress customer here. Got a Queen Supra mattress 1 year ago, upgraded from a mid-range ikea. Quick delivery and communication. No refund policy though (which sucks). But I can say this last year I've had the best sleep in my life. The mattress is thick and heavy, feels luxurious but might be a challenge to move it.
My opinion for what it's worth
A mattress is one item of furniture you don't want to skimp on - get the very best quality you can buy
A latex or memory foam mattress is the way to go IMO. We bought an Italian made latex mattress about 15 years ago and it still looks like new. It is just super comfortable and firm. I can't remember how much it cost but it was quite expensive
Shop around and do some research
One brand I would avoid is IKEA. Their mattresses are terrible. Very poor quality, uncomfortable and fall apart after a few years. Avoid like the plague

I've read quite a few posters making this comment. Have you all personally bought IKEA mattresses in the past? Or is it the - I know a friend who …. story being repeated.
I didn't know IKEA mattresses were so successful that heaps of people have bought them and had years of experience with them.Personal experience champ. We've had a few of their mattresses and soon became uncomfortable and all fell apart after a few years. Terrible products

Avoid
Take the $4k you spend on an expensive mattress and put it in an index fund earning 8% interest. Then you'll have >$300 of interest to buy a new ikea mattress every year.
I personally love my ikea mattress after 1 year so far. And I definitely won't be sleeping in this house for 15 years, plus wouldn't guarantee I'd spill something on it or someone would stand on it and wreck it.
I really don't know how many people would take care of a mattress and never move houses far away for 15 years and over. Plus, the $4k mattress probably costs $200 to make.

Haven't read any other posts, just want to say ergoflex gets very hot is heavy and would not buy again. It is not even close to a Tempur.
Too much to read, has any one mentioned prince. They are form mattress. All my mattress are prince.
