What to do with 50,000 velocity points

Hi,

My company has decided that we'll be flying QANTAS from now onwards.

Any ideas what I can do with my points? ie. what's the most money efficient thing to do?

I don't have any holidays booked / plan to fly anytime soon for leisure. I just wish to 'sit' / keep the points. But i believe i start losing them if I don't use them

    You could sell them

    • Looks like it'd be worth ~$300… minus the hassle for the other person.

I am tempted to cash it in for a Bose Soundlink II

      • You'll regularly see people in Classifieds buying for around 1c/point

  • 1667 points equates to $10 off at BP

    So surprising.

You are a velocity member, just look at their redemptions website

Why join here to ask for something you can do yourself?

Just trying to get an array of opinions. I can easily search how to spend my points, but it may not necessarily be the most efficient way.

  • Personally, I'd hang onto them for when you want to fly as this gives the best redemption value compared to cashing in but you'd have better sense of your time frame. As an example 44,800 will get you to West Coast of USA.

According to their website Velocity Points will not expire provided you earn or redeem points at least once every 24 months which isn't hard to do these days with all sorts of businesses linking directly to the Velocity Program like BP for your motorbike fuel!

    • Yep, That's a good point. I'll get more "bang for my bucks" using them on flights.

I think i'll just save them for flights :)

  • Or if you do not need flights you can convert to giftcards. Some time ago they had a 15% bonus for converting to gift cards.
