Wanting to be a cheap skate and prolong the life of our mattress. Has anyone purchased a mattress topper of late that they would recommend.
Mattress Topper

I've found it very difficult to find one that doesn't have a water proof backing. Most adults can control their bladders :P PITA when washing as it holds water and drips a lot when you dry it (I dry it indoors)
mattress toppers don't have waterproof backings, you are thinking of mattress protectors which typically do.
I was going to buy one of these over the Christmas break:

However, they were unable to deliver in time for me. If I remember correctly, it was about $245, which they said was a special price.
I ended up buying a topper on sale at Spotlight. There were two that I looked at, a Tontine and some other brand that I can't recall right now (and I'm about 100km from the bed, so I can't look). Both were the thickest on display, and both about the same price, which I think was a bit over $100.
The Spotlight one seems fine, but I'd like to know how much better the MicroCloud one would have been.
Don't know how others have fared, but my advice is not to waste your money.
I've tried two, a foam eggshell style one, and one from Aldi.
They were fine for a short time, then useless.
Being a cheapskate is fine, but I've learnt from experience that cheapskating doesn't work with shoes or beds.
I resolved a lot of my back and hip problems by buying a new bed. Yes, it cost what to me was a lot of money, but now I sleep better and have less pain. My only regret is wasting money on mattress toppers, and trying to save money by not replacing the old bed.

This was cheap and good so far. Although i weigh 70kg
Always avoid latex, they are the hottest ones to sleep in.
Memory foam is a mixed bag, for some they can be hot as you sink in and there's no air circulation as a result. Some use an eggshell design which alleviates this.
Down, cotton, polyester and wool are the best materials to go for.
