AMD Ryzen 1700X CPU $569 @ Scorptec

7710

Saw the other amazon deals for Ryzen. Why go international when you can get better prices locally?

Seems like cashrewards have 4% cashback at scorptec, so it makes it better than the amazon deal posted.

Here are the numbers

1800X : $699 : CR $671.04 (no cooler)
1700X : $569 CR $546.24 (no cooler)
1700 : $469 : CR $450.24 (wraith cooler)

PCCG: https://www.pccasegear.com/category/138_1874/motherboards/am…
PLE: https://www.ple.com.au/Categories/Motherboards/AMD-Socket-AM… (seems like they have the largest range at the moment)

Don't forget cashback on m/b and RAM too =)

Depending on which SKU is selected some have coolers some do not. Seems like most of the X models in AUS do not. This is indicated by the WOF (without fan) in the SKU.

  • what are the MB prices

    • +4

I've updated post with link to mobos.

    • +8

(And the $700 1800X) also matches the $1400 6900k in some benchmarks. It all depends on usage scenarios.

Anyway, best to wait for real benchmarks regardless.

    • +1

What TheContact said, also double the cores so multi-threaded tasks it gets up to 46% faster (cinebench) but for pure gaming 7700k is probably superior

    • Don't know why this is getting down-voted. I found it interesting information.

    • +4

Because u are paying for double the cores and threads, granted the 7700k is faster in single threaded applications this is ment to be for those who want more cpu power to edit photoshop, etc.

    • +1

The AMD fanboyery for this thing is off tap. Don't fret about the downvotes, a lot of people think if they downvote you, it'll make the CPU better.

They'll see in a few weeks, that if they don't wanna render or video edit, it's not as wise after all.
Upvoted, least I can do for you.

    • 4 more cores.

  • +11

How is this a bargain? Its standard pricing…

    • +15

Well after CR it's cheaper than the Amazon deal.. so i would consider it a bargain.
Happy for this to be removed, just thought it would be useful if others wanted to pre-order and were not aware of CR and scorptec.

    • Since the other offer's here

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/293796

I say this fits here too.

It's the initial post that's the problem.

My thought on that post is a lowering price due to (supposedly?) improved technology is not a bargain, so as I said, that post is the one that should go. Probably to forums as it is of interest. Only then does this post not deserve to be here.

    • It is the cheapest deal right now, so it should be a bargain.

  • +12

Any actual bargain or is that just the normal price? Not sure cashrewards makes it a bargain…

    • +3

No, not really.. I too am starting to wonder if the sole discount comes from cashrewards then it seems like they should have their own area or something for the people that do value it enough for posting.

  • +72

    OzBARGAIN is lately becoming OzCATALOGUE.

    • +19

Well when it's interesting new tech - I would argue it's news/can be a bargain if compared to current generation tech.

I had no idea this CPU was coming out. This just shows you that if you spending $500 on a CPU this could be a better deal than what's currently in market.

A better example 5 months ago:
If I posted a GTX 960 Nvidia card deal for $200. And someone posts a 'standard price' gtx 1050 deal for $150. I would be so thankful because now I've saved $50 and got the same performance.

Now(6 months later) if a gtx 1050 gets posted for $150, because it is common knowledge/an established product in the market- I wouldn't call it a deal.

My point is - the timing of the product can make it a deal or not.

      • +1

I see your point but tech improves are not bargains in themselves IMHO. Newsworthy, certainly.

It's an overall price reduction for the item if the improvement is legitimate.

Then we can see a bargain if the new offering is for sale at a sharply reduced price to other offerings for the same product.

        • Well if there can be weekly posts with the nintendo mini thing being back in stock for rrp why can't this be posted? >_>

        • @zorrt:

I'm pretty sure he also isn't for those NES deals as well because they are definitely not a BARGAIN. It's a forum topic IMHO re stock and availability.

        • @zorrt:

If it want posted I would t have ever found out.

      • "I had no idea this CPU was coming out"

Uh, how have you missed it? I'd guess you don't use YouTube all that much ;)

But yes, these are standard prices and are within a tolerable margin allowing for Australia tax.

    • It's a bargain compared to other CPU's on the market and it just came out.

if you think about it this way you're getting a true 8 core CPU for 1/3 to 1/2 the normal price.

      • +12

That's like saying a Xiaomi phone does 99% of what an iPhone does but at half the price, hence pay RRP for it because it is still a bargain…

    • +5

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a bargain (to me) is saving >20% over RRP (a lot of these deals would be found in my early OzB days), but lately there's a flurry of average deals close to RRP and to me paying RRP less a lousy percent or two because of CR is not a BARGAIN (which is what this site is about) but a catalogue item… I'm starting to become JV'd here I think =P

      • +1 this.

      • +6

Unfortunately the site only allows me to upvote you once.

        Sick of seeing…
A few dollars off something qualify as a bargain
A product available to only a specific small area (like a single Dominos store or something)
A $2 sim card going for free. (I queried this, didn't know paying for a sim was a thing, then got downvoted).
Free industrial or commercial product samples being posted.

These things are not bargains we need to know or care about.

    • +2

      I agree
We need more criticism vs more deals

  • +30

This is what happens when the community accepts the Mini Nes "deals"..

    • -4

Shit any time I have posted anything similar to what you have said I have had atleast -8 votes.

      100% agree with you though

  • +5

If it's the cheapest deal going around, then its a bargain compared to every other price advertised. if its RRP just as everyone else i.e. like the mini nes, than no bargain.. simple.

    • I guess this one is a grey area? It is RRP but with CR

    • +9

Its RRP… exact same price at PLE :/

      https://www.ple.com.au/Products/627229/AMD-Ryzen-7-1700-37Gh…
      https://www.ple.com.au/Products/627230/AMD-Ryzen-7-1700X-38G…
      https://www.ple.com.au/Products/627232/AMD-Ryzen-7-1800X-40G…

As soon as other stores start listing it it will be the same price there too… I am sure there are lots of things on Amazon more expensive than local stock, does that make every local item a bargain?

      • -3

does that make every local item a bargain?

If they have a cashback then I would say yes. You could pick it up at PLE for the same price but you save a couple of bux through CR if you did it through scorptec? When is saving a couple of bux for the same item not considered a good deal? I thought the whole concept of ozb was to facilitate users in getting the same item at the lowest price possible.

        • +6

So should we have an indervidual post for every single item sold at RRP by every single vendor who offers cash rewards?

        • -3

          @el_cheapo:

If it's relevant… i mean that's the whole point of the voting system. If people think it's relevant more see it, otherwise it gets buried.

        • +2

@blazer: voting system seems to be in order in this particular comment thread

  • +3

Had to double check if I was on ozbargain or ozrrp

Logged in and the first two deals are the Nintendo classic and this lol

It's about the time that the PC market is given a push, it's been stagnant for so long.

Any ideas on exact difference between 1700 & 1700X? It looks like the X is a lot more power hungry but only a few hundred MHz faster… and you don't get the cooler with it either… not sure what's going on there.

    • Extended Frequency Range is basically auto over clocking. It allows for the CPU to boost higher and higher so long as it remains cool enough, and you don't need to fiddle around in the BIOS either.

      Quote
upcoming Ryzen processors are "unlocked," in that they feature unlocked base-clock multipliers that let you easily overclock them; yet a few of its variants feature a brand extension "X." As our older article details, the "X" refers to availability of the XFR (extended frequency range) feature. Think of it as a second stage boost that rewards good CPU cooling with higher CPU clocks set automatically. The Ryzen R7-1800X, R7-1700X, R5-1600X, R5-1400X, and R3-1200X feature this.

Go watch the Linus tech tips channel for a better explanation

      • Linus tech tips… not exactly who I would trust for good information, only trust him to break stuff.

But all Ryzen's are unlocked anyway, so I guess it's just a case of active monitoring of temps to automatically overclock based on that. No doubt motherboard manufacturers will do the same for non-X variant with software.

I also suppose that the X could go higher than advertised compared to a non-X and the 95W TDP is a "worst case scenario" when you've overclocked far but if you keep it at stock speeds it would be similar to the non-X version.

    • -2

1700 for pros, 1700x for nubs. simples.

      • Switcheroo. 1700X if you have a good cooling system to let it ramp up higher.

1700 (aka the baby of the R7 range) for people who don't care for overclocks. Overclocking is controlled by the motherboard.

  • +1

Not a bargain. Esp when you're using Cash Rewards before the final price.

  • I hope everyone saying RRP =/= Bargain echoed the same thoughts in the plethora of Nintendo Classic RRP listings being spam'd on here..
I do agree, by the way. RRP isn't a bargain, and any listing for an item that is simply RRP shouldn't be posted on OzBargain.

  • -2

Thanks for the post, OP. Just wondering if you were going to post any bargains??

    • +1

Funnily enough, OP has contributed more to the site than you have.

      • -2

Perhaps he could contribute some bargains then

  • +7

The quality of posts have really been degrading as of late. This isn't a bargain, it is the RRP. Just because its a new product does NOT mean it should be posted as a deal, move to forum.

    • -4

Compared to Intel prices though this is a huge bargain so I would have to disagree

      • +1

This is probably the dumbest post in the whole thread.

Let me paint an example for you to understand. "Compared to Apple computers, Dell's are way cheaper so they are a huge bargain!"

Does that mean we post all Dell computers to ozbargain, the answer is no.

        • -3

Dell sell Windows, Apple sell OSX. Not really a valid comment. IPC match Intel CPUs at half the cost. My comment still stands, yours doesn't

        • +1

@motion2082: "DELL COMPUTERS ARE WAY CHEAPER THAN ALIENWARE COMPUTERS, SO THEY ARE A HUGE BARGAIN!!!!!"

Why do you insist on making yourself look like a moron?

        • -2

@Your Friend: haha lmao…more proof you're the moron! Dell owns Alienware so it's a win win regardless.

  • +6

Yet lots of +votes when cashrewards advertise on here saving a few cents for every hundred spent, you're a fickle bunch.

    10% cash back with Shopperdoo

  • I like reading the argument…so im glad it was posted…well done op. I do admit maybe it isn't a bargain..possibly a forum thread?

  • Read every single comment, thing that stuck with me the most was someones spelling of "indervidual"

  • X chips are 95W while non-X are 65W in the 6 and 8 core RyZens

  • +6

How can RRP be a bargain? Free advertising for scorptec but a bit unfair to the other retailers which will be stocking at the same price.
Do we make a new post when someone else has it for same price with cheaper postage?
Should be in the forum for proper discussion. IMO. It is always going to get upvotes as it's exciting news, but it's news not a bargain.

    • Exactly! Same price as PCcasegear which most of the time I prefer. Although the waiting seats at Scorptec are comfy

  • +1

If we just listed items that are a lower price than "rrp" then a lot of great deals would be missed. No I don't want to read forums I come to ozbargain to identify great deals, who said the definition of a bargain is relative to a rrp? a bargain is fulfilling a need at a lower than expected price, even if it's rrp. Case in point, new product fulfills my need at a lower price than I was willing to spend, that's a bargain to me!! Anyways everyone has a right to their opinion and mine is "fulfil my needs cheaper than I was aware of after my research, and I'll call it a bargain".
Let's put it this way an item dropped from 100 to 90, and it's the cheapest anyone can find.. but another product appears better and cheaper, should I wait for its rrp to drop or hide it in a forum.. I say let the public know and let them decide .. no point constraining the definition of a bargain relative to rrp, just won't help the masses in my humble opinion

    • +2

I think deal posting would then become ridiculously subjective. My brand of soap is great and only costs $1 compared to the $2 imperial leather branded soap. They're both at RRP at Woolies, but in my opinion my brand is better for cheaper so I'm going to post it as a deal… And that could happen for every product under the sun… The only reason this is passing as a bargain is because its AMDs great return to form and that's popular news. That, and computer stuff is popular on this site. It's not a bargain it's just newsworthy.

We can't even objectively claim it's a bargain vs the competition until there is independent testing.

Having said all of that, ozbargain is where I learnt of this announcement so I do appreciate the post for that reason. However, I would have seen it in the forums also, which IMO is where it belongs.

  • +1

If you think this is a bargain i have some shares in a bridge for sale..

    • +2

Let me know when it's rrp drops.. :)

    • Does the bridge have four, or eight lanes?

  • X chips are 95W while non-X are 65W in the 6 and 8 core RyZens

  • +2

All we need is a ebay 20% and no price jacking and it might be an interesting deal.

  • +1

AMD have done it. Who'd have thought it?

I kind of regret buying my 7600k which I haven't even unboxed yet.

    • +1

      sell it

      • Already bought a motherboard for it. And definitely can't sell that.

  • +1

    go team RED

  • I stopped believing AMD after the Athlon days and have been an Intel fan since. However, this is great news for the consumer, as now AMD seems to be on the right track to match intel. Good competition is what intel needed!

  • -1

It is a bargain because it

    1) Provides an opportunity for ozbargain members to potential save money. As this may be a game changer product that may force competitors to lower their CPU prices. Anywhere up to 50% across their whole desktop/laptop range. Expect drops on 6th and 7th Gen CPUs.

That means hold off on current purchases to save $100-$200 in coming weeks. Or try to flog off ur current setup earlier on feeBay or Scamtree earlier.

    2) it is the cheapest price around

    • -1

Perhaps he could post it on OzNormalPrice then

  • -1

is this a good deal? https://www.ple.com.au/Bundle/627203/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-Kab…

    • +1

      Please look carefully…
Once you choose the motherboard the price will be added

      • youre right my bad!

    • No as it's not any mobo

  • Looks like this is turning into OzRRP
    Lets make OzBargain great again!

  • -1

Gotta say a bit disappointed with pricing. Adding a motherboard, ram and heat sink and it's going to cost over $800. So much for a cheap upgrade from my FX8350 system. That CPU cost me $150!!!!

    • This is all enthusiast grade hardware. Ryzen 7 series = High end, Ryzen 5 = Mainstream.

You could say Ryzen 7 is supposed to compete against Core i7, while Ryzen 5 series compete against the Core i5 and will be priced similarly.

      • Alas the 1700 doesn't compete terribly well with the i7 7700k in benchmarks especially in gaming, and at is no bargain at release pricing. If Intel do push price drops here there could be a price war. So it's a wait from me.

  • 1700 with cooler : $450 delivered from pc.byte via ebay C10 deal . Seems to be the best local deal going .

  • i wonder what what the laptop line ups will look like……… super powerfull and efficient? and cheap? finally 6-8 core laptos i hopes

  • What a total disappointment this thing ended up being :/ Man I can't wait for Intel 6 core in Jan next year (or Zen2 / Zen+ in about 18 months, hopefully fixed)
