  • are there any details of this sale ?? I cant find these prices. Best I could get was around $1050 for a week in may. I am after SYD to AMS in Jun for like 3-4 weeks I would leave late may as well. Is there a way to search for date that are cheap ?
    Thanks

    • Search on the Cathay site. You get a grid of prices for departure/arrival combos around the dates you like. Identify the cheap combos then search those dates on IWTF, Kayak or Momondo for the best price.

      • Thanks I got a good price that way. Lowest was around $1060 via byojet in May/Jun but still not bad.

It's failry easy to find these rates through Kayak, eg 29/5 till 19/6. Good total flight duration as well! Ik zou snel boeken als ik jou was!

      is jy van nederland?

I've been flying with Qantas so long that I don't want to change airlines.

Is Cathay Pacific any good compared to Qantas?

    • +3

Never flown with them personally but heard many good things. Are ranked higher than Qantas and via a good airport in Hong Kong.

    • Qantas won't take you to Amsterdam, you can get to London/Dubai with Qantas, but then you'll need someone else to take you to Amsterdam.

    • +2

Just as good, full service airline

    • +2

Very similar, both full service as others have mentioned. Cathay are a Qantas partner too so you should earn Qantas points and Status Credits.

      • At very reduced rates especially on the SYD to HKG route. Some tickets don't earn at all due to heavy discounted rate bucket.

But Cathay are good to fly with and HKG airport is great to transit through.

    • +1

I don't fly Qantas these days. Open your mind widely - there are so much better airlines out there that don't charge you silly fares like Qantas does.

  • Thanks OP, great deal :)

  • Fly there one way for $905, visit cafe and fly back for free :D

    • A café in Amsterdam serves normal coffee and tea like they do in Melbourne.

I think you actually meant to say "coffeeshop" hehe.

I may have stumbled upon these so-called coffeeshops ^accidentally^ many a time in my Dutch excursions. And it's only a few hours train ride to Paris and even London!!!

      • may have stumbled upon these so-called coffeeshops ^accidentally^ many a time

        username checks out!

    • visit cafe

I think you mean coffeeshop lol. Café = French word same as Australia

      Coffeeshop sells Amsterdam's special herbs.

  • Are you able to add a stopover in HK with these sort of deals with Cathay?

    • There are opportunities to stop over for a whole day in HK if you choose your itinerary correctly.

If you travel between 23 March and 21 May it's a good opportunity to visit the Keukenhof.

Keukenhof, also known as the Garden of Europe, is one of the world's largest flower gardens. It is situated in Lisse, Holland.

    https://keukenhof.nl//en/

All the beautiful tulips will be in full bloom in Spring!

Of course the coffeeshops will be waiting for you in Amsterdam as well! :D

    • Did this last year, well worth a visit

  • +3

If only I can take leave from work, I'd visit Europe more than once a year!

    • Yeah I need 2 months off a year

  • There are also heavily discounted fares to Europe via Doha on Qatar Airways.

  • +2

Good deal, need to do some er… window shopping.

  • Hmm why is BNE about $150 more than MEL.

    • Likely either less competition on this route, or more expensive competititon

      • I think MEL also has some of the cheapest landing fees for airlines. It's just ironic since BNE is about 500 km closer to HKG than MEL. PER is 1400 km closer.

        • Ah yes, but competition to AMS also routes through Singapore, Bangkok, KL, then gulf airports like Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi…

        • @carwashhair: And several hubs in mainland China.

  • Hopefully when the Canberra-Sydney-Doha-onwards to Europe route is opened up to Qatar Airways next year, it will be much much better for all of us pricewise.
