It's cheaper than a shirt https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/280115
Cant beat a Honda, start first time evertime.
Yep, the genuine Hondas are amazing machines. Not cheap, but it may very well be the last mower you ever buy.
Great to see that Honda has made the grass shoot bigger. I have the HRU19M1 and the thing constantly clogs with tall or wet grass.
it shoots grass ( ゚ヮ゚)
*chute ;)
Related to the low lift blades fitted as standard.
OP how heavy is this mower?
thanks for digging that out :)
Translation of 'heritage' in this context:
You will constantly have to piss around with petrol, and occasionally spark-plugs, it's loud, it's relatively heavy, it's greasy/drops oil, sometimes it won't start, etc.
My advice is for this sort of money, avail yourself of the best electric battery mower on the market (the 56V EGO is great), plus a spare battery. You will never look back.
…except when you have a large expanse of grass, like I do. Electric mowers just can't go the distance. I'm fortunate I'm able to properly maintain my petrol mowers so I don't have trouble in that respect. When someone invents a battery that will last longer than 30 continuous minutes of running time at full power then I'll consider switching.
That's exactly why I mentioned the spare battery. With the EGO mower I have, the battery it comes with lasts 45 minutes and if you buy an extra battery that one that can be charged in that time. ERGO continuous mowing.
Nice machine but a spare battery is $499.
Lets say they last 5 years, that is $100 x 2 in batteries per year and you have to charge them. That buys a lot of petrol.
@SamR:
I just checked and actually the batteries I have (the ones that last at least 45 minutes at full power) are 4.0Ah, and they currently cost $259 at full price. The most expensive one is the 6.0Ah, which currently costs $359, and you can also get a 2.0Ah, for $149.So I'm not sure where you're getting $500 from…

Even if you pay full price for everything, you can get the mower/charger/one 4Ah battery for $600, and a spare battery for ~$350, which is cheaper than this deal, and in my opinion a better thing to own. Not to mention, you can then use the charger/batteries to power other EGO 'skins'.
The manufacturer website says the 7Ah battery is $499. if you are going to have a spare surely you would buy the big one first?
Anyway, looks promising.
'if you are going to have a spare surely you would buy the big one first?'
This is not so, for various reasons. You might want another of the same one you already have, because you know exactly how it performs in the context of your specific requirements. Conversely, you may wish to buy a smaller/lighter 2Ah battery, to use with things like chainsaws or whipper-snippers, where weight is relevant. Or, you might want to buy a battery of mid-range Ah because it will become fully charged more rapidly.
Drop oil? Greasy? You haven't owned a Honda mower. Mine still runs like new and is 5yrs old, mowing a 700sqm property regularly.
Sounds good. How much did it cost? How much have you spent on petrol in that 5 years? Does it still have its original spark plugs? How heavy is it? How loud is it?
Not taking the bait for you to rave about your Electric mower.
@HONDA4LIFE:
LOL, I haven't raved about it, and I won't.Peace out, bro.
No idea what crap mowers you used in the past but mine starts first pull even my old crappy second hand mower i bought off gumtree still works fine and starts first pull.
"You will never look back."
Incorrect according to you you need a second battery so you will look and walk back to your house/garage to charge and get the second battery.I've been thinking of getting one!
It seems I've offended the die-hard petrol-heads on here who evidently like to make noise Tech, but trust me on this. A decent battery powered mower is one of the best things you will ever buy. Formerly this wasn't the case, but due to advances in the technology in the last few years (power/batteries basically), now it is.
Thanks mate for the advice. For someone with a relatively small property to maintain(such as myself) - I think an electric one will be great.
I'm not sure why you're getting so many neg votes lol.
I'm certainly willing to entertain your recommendation, and I'm far from a die-hard petrol-head, I'm just of the opinion that battery-powered mowers are not yet in the same league. When battery technology catches up to the energy density and power output of petrol I'll quite happily switch, but I honestly think that's a few years into the future at the moment.
To address the OP directly - I've used Honda mowers* in a semi-commercial capacity before, and I believe that if you're prepared to pay the price for one you'll be getting good value for money. Long after any lesser mower you can buy today has long since died (including the very best electrics) your Honda will still be going strong. Yes, they require maintenance, but if you're spending that much on a mower the chances are good you're already able and willing to do it right.
(*Beware of the cheap and nasty 'Hondas' that wear the same badge and are sold through the same channels. Like almost every other manufacturer, Honda have a line of bargain models that are not the same quality but still bear the premium price. Ask your dealer and they'll tell you the difference.)
'I'm just of the opinion that battery-powered mowers are not yet in the same league.'
I hear you Cz, but 56 volts is quite a lot of power. The difference between 56 V and 18 or 36 V is very noticeable. Of course it is not completely on par with a petrol engine, but in my humble opinion, at 56 V the (numerous) positives outweigh the negatives, particularly re a lawn-mower.
Haven't had any problems with my lawn mower (Briggs Stratton motor) its more than 10 years old.
Hi op I got a Honda hru19 but how do I check what model I have? It just says hru19 buck? It's pretty old and looking to replace it. Cheers
Why are you looking to replace it tho?
Tell me we're still not riding on the sheep's back after 150 years!
For that sort of money I could pay someone to do the lawn and go to the pub for lunch .. :-) .. !!
How difficult is it to push this mower?
Would it be better to get a self propelled?
My lawn mower was 99 dollars brand new from Bunnings
I have honda mower thats still going strong 15 years later. Only serviced once in that time.
For $975 it better run on tears.
