This article was put up the last time an Oral-B 3000 was listed on OzBargain - looks like an excellent deal!
    https://www.animated-teeth.com/electric_toothbrushes/oral-b-…

    • Awesome article! It's great to see an independent comparison of the different Oral-B models

  • can you attach heads for children to use this brush?

    • Yes, the stage power heads for children will fit on to this (and every other) Oral-B electric toothbrush handle

  • thanks OP bought 5

    • For 10 users? Brady bunch ain't got nothing on you!

  • Thanks our current brushes (an earlier iteration of this model) have been going strong for about 8 years, but the batteries are starting to let them down - ideal timing !

  • +1

Great deal! I just checked cashrewards and it's only 3.2% cashback though.

  • Can I use my current pro500 charger with these toothbrushes?

  • Anyone know how these compare to the Oral B Pro 500/700 - older series but I found one for $40 recently. I'm wondering whether its worth 'upgrading' to this one since I haven't opened the other one? Sounds similar in functionality. Neither has a li-ion battery - both are nimh

    • Pro 500 are mid range and good value for money. These ones have more modes and have a bit fast motor. If you have Pro500, stick with it. Will advise to have a sensitive brush as I have realised brushes are a bit hard and not good for your gums.

      • +1

my pro 500s are 5+ years old… should I get this now or wait for the 500s to die and hope there's other ozbargain in the future… hard to decide

        • Pro 500 were designed over 5 years so a bit old tech, but has same 3d tech for brushing. If it keeps working, carry on.
Pro 3000 or others are a bit new. Another small thing is that new models have a little inclined handle to reach teeth better. But I can move my hand for that. So not a big plus other than the faster motor and more modes.
This is new tech. So if you feel like it is a good price, go for it. Additional head is $5 plus alone.
Just FYI, Shaver shop has all of models for 50% off. So you can either head to their shop or order online for $69 :)
This one is for $99 from them if you want Aus. stock. Not sure from where COTD had them. Can be overseas stock but do have savings.

  • does this one have bluetooth ? - yojabbajabba link above mentions it does (app would come in handy), can't find any details elsewhere

  • Nice. Was going to get the 5000 from Priceline but this seems a better deal.

  • +1

These are good. They have an NiMH battery instead of the NiCD ones in the cheap base models. Big difference.

    • Like? They are brushes not drills mate, so should be fine.
Have been using them for years. You expect them to work for 3-4 years. New tech comes after that.

      • +5

The difference is that a NiMH battery does not have "memory effects", meaning if you charge it before it's empty, or start using before fully charged, you won't kill the capacity of the battery. The battery also has more power, and stays powerful until nearly empty. So you get more RPM's. The cheap models run fast the first time after charging, and are slow for the remaining time. The usable lifespan is also likely to be longer.

As for "new tech": NiCD has been around since forever, same for NiMH. It's not the availability of the tech that matters - they just want to be able to charge you more for a better product. Even solar lights often have NiMH in them nowadays, so it's not like they can't afford to put them in the base model toothbrushes.

        • NiMH battery does not have "memory effects"

I understand it was a big issue for Drills. But I never had that issue with my brush. One user earlier stated that he has been using it for over 5 years as well. The Pro 3000 has better faster motor and it is not fast due to NiMH battery. You use brush for 2 minutes and let it rest on the recharge station, so not sure why I will wait for it become slow. Not sure if I want to use mine for more than 3 years.

        • +1

@Gaggy: Leaving it recharging every day all day costs ~$9 of electricity a year. That's $27 over 3 years.

        • @Make it so: Agreed, I only plug it in once it totally dies, go to work, come back, unplug.

        • -1

@Make it so: lol. You changed the discussion from LiMh to consumption now. Anyway, it is for any electric brush you buy. Cant be bothered to forget charging or it running out of juice when doing brush?
What is the source of your energy ratings btw?

Also I cannot find anywhere written that Pro500 use NiCd. I think they have same NiMH batteries (from last 2-3 year) as Pro 500 are still being manufactured.

        • @Gaggy:
It's NiMH, not LiMh. You must be confused with Lithium batteries.

I am not changing the discussion, I was simply saying that if you have a decent battery, you don't have to keep it charging and you save money that way.

          Source of energy ratings: 3W * 1/1000 * 24 * 365 * $0.35 (tariff averaged based on having smartpower with on-peak/off-peak/shoulder)

I never said pro500. I said "base models", which are the ones they sell at Woolworths for $25.
All "pro" models have NiMH, and given that they use the same heads, I expect that they perform the same way.

    • I only choose the best of organic, gluten free, free range batteries in my tooth brush.

  • +1

Mechanically this is equivalent to the PC5000+ range.
That is, the oscillation speed and pulse is the same.

    Great price.

  • Thanks OP, for $79 and 2 brushes, that's a really solid deal. I've been waiting for a while now to get a good deal, so thanks :D

  • So I've got the cheap ones ($20 from Coles sales)
Can someone list me reasons why I should get this instead?

    • Read the animated teeth article which was approximately the first comment

    • -1

i would rather hear from the ozbargain community..

  • If only this came with a 100-240v charger for use overseas…. if anyone can confirm the charger is 220-240v that'd be great

    • You need to read the website or the op again. It says that its 220-240v

      • I did read it. I was hoping that they may have included a 100-240v.

    • Buy a 110-240v charger from eBay/aliexpress!

      • Thanks for the tip. That may be a good option!
