  • Great phone, great price

    • Are you referring to the Motorola G4? There are 4 phones listed (but I guess the Motorola is the "main" focus).

Has anyone here used this and a Xiaomi and can compare their experience?

      • Yes, the Moto g4 32gig dual SIM variant

      • +1

My G4 plus got the OTA upgrade to Android 7 about a week ago, so that makes it a phone with latest android and no custom ROMS or DIY flashing needed.

Also has band 28 and yes it does quicker downloads (live in Melb metro, have band 28 coverage).

Less hassle than the Xiaomi note 4 that needed to be reflashed to an official ROM and doesn't have band 28.
Even with the official ROM, it doesn't seem to get auto updates to playstore software which our other phones do get.

      • Yeah used to the standard Moto G4 (not the plus) was pretty standard 16gb variant, best thing was stock android experience. Dropped it in pool and then thought it was waterproof as G3 was but then found out it was just splash proof. Anyways currently use xiaomi mi5, I like it a lot better, moto g4 camera sucked in my experience (especially on snapchat). Mi5 a lot faster, clearer screen even though same resolution plus I like the styling of it better. Also have the 64gb variant and the fingerprint scanner is great. Mi5>G4 imo

  • Can you get these with a smaller screen?

    • +1

For a smaller screen you'd want the Moto G4 Play with 5" screen. That is the base level model (Motorola Moto G4 Play > Motorola Moto G4 > Motorola Moto G4 Plus 16GB/2GB > Motorola G4 Plus 32GB/2GB). See comparison

The G4 Play has a slightly smaller screen, less resolution, less MP camera, smaller battery. The entry, budget model. It's only $242 though for Australian stock delivered or $269 at Officeworks. Good option if you want the smaller screen and don't mind the lesser specs.

  • So tempted, but concerned that the G4 plus does have some issues and I may need to return, are these guys really bad for returns?

    • +4

Previous comments indicate they aren't great, same as almost every overseas store it seems, some comments indicated they are often slow or don't cover the repair and give partial store credit instead. With AU stores at least is warranty is slow or doesn't get honoured you have some protection/law behind you, but of course you are paying 20-30% more for local. If you don't need to claim warranty then you've saved a lot, so it depends on the phone, the price difference, how long you plan on keeping it and your circumstances as to which is better for you local or overseas. If you were buying a phone that often bootloops or a $1000 Pixel then you say the risk isn't worth the saving. That's how I see it anyway, I've bought every phone grey import and have saved a lot by doing so but haven't had any warranty claim. If a $299 phone did mess up after a year then many might say okay I'll just get a new one or similar anyway, but if you plan on keeping it for 2 years, don't have a spare phone to fall back on and/or AU stock is not much more then the extra warranty and added protection might be worth it for you. There might be a deal for $350ish in the future from Mobileciti for AU stock as there was in the past, they are the only ones that really stock the 32GB in Aus. Edit: You also have certain protection by PayPal (up to 6 months?).

      • +1

I have to disagree with you. I purchased this exact phone from eGlobal on the last deal. Out of the box had an intermittent 'ghost touch' problem where sometimes the phone would start registering touches on the screen where no one was touching the screen. Because the problem was intermittent I was afraid they wouldn't honour a DOA.

However, these guys were great. They organised a courier to pick up the phone from my work at their cost after getting me to send a video of the problem. Surprisingly they had no problem with confirming DOA status. It took a bit longer and 1 follow up because it was over the Xmas/New Year period.

Then they promptly sent out a replacement. During the whole process communication was great. No more than 24 hours between when I email them a question and they respond.

Would not hesitate to purchase from them again for my next phone based on this experience.

However, do you have a link to other previous comments where users were having problems with warranty/returns? Would like to know if my experience was a fluke.

        • Oh that's good to hear, I guess there is an element of people more likely to share bad experiences than good experiences.

However here are a few recent comments on eGlobal/DWI deals: 1 2 3 4 5 6 - thread here. Warranty can be slow in AU too but the most common issue seems to be that their warranty isn't replacement as such (after some time), they just give a portion of the cost as store credit in many cases it seems (which can leave you out of pocket). This is going by previous comments anyway, none of this is from personal experience.

        • As always, your mileage may vary but my experience with Eglobal warranty repairs was awful. Short version - consider their warranty worthless. Full story? See my post halfway down: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/285019

        • @pupdog: Thank you for that. Maybe my experience was better because it was DOA and not warranty. Regardless I will probably not buy from them in future based on your experience.

  • While I wouldn't call it a "bargain", $590 delivered for the OnePlus 3T 64gb A3010 is as cheap as you'll find.

  • +1

Hmm this or an Xiaomi phone…

  • I still got over 50 bucks for delivery
Edit: I didn't read the post properly and failed to enter the code

  • Would you buy the G4
or go for Xiaomi Mi5 around $330 delivered 3GB am 32GB rom

    • +3

The G4 is best if you don't want to mess around with ROMS. It runs stock android, which is familiar to everyone. It's also getting
It also has MicroSD storage, while the M5 doesn't.

That said the Mi5 is a smaller, more compact device, and it's also using a faster SOC. This might be relevant for gamers.

    • with the G4, it has official android 7 OTA, and band 28, Xiaomi need to reflash and no band 28.

    • I like mi5 in my experience having had the G4 before I dropped it in water

  • Recently, I got a Lenono Zuk Z2 Dual Sim (Standby) 64GB/4GB (no Band 28) because of the 5" screen. I played around with various CM ROMs but at the end I went back to the stock ZUI ROM (6.0.1) and I am very very happy with it especially I only paid ~$250 for it delivered :)

  • I'm starting to hate eGlobal just becuause of their shipping prices. They class me as living in a "remote area". I'm 15 minutes from the beach, not Uluru. So usually the shipping is $60 which includes "remote area" surcharge which kills every deal they have. I've ordered from them once before and while the shipping times did seem quick, I'd rather have the option to wait and pay less.

    • +3

If you are in 'remote areas' then just get it off their/dwi's eBay store, they have free shipping aus wide and it's only about $10 more than this deal shipped depending on colour.

      • Thank you, I'm glad there's some kind of work around.

    • hmm think of it like aliexpress …. I hate them because they don't take paypal ….. but because they don't take paypal they are cheaper …..

  • +2

THey marked the LG V20 as dual 'standby' which means this according to their site:

Important notice on Dual Sim mobile, tablet update
Please note that most Dual Sim mobiles and tablets sold at eGlobaL are Dual Sim "StandBy" only.
Which means the second sim card only uses the 2G or GSM network.

However snapdragon 820 can handle both 4g and 3g simultaneously according to this:
    http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones

    Any idea?

    • +1

the moto G4 plus is 4G in both sims ….. we got one to replace a phone whose 2nd slot was 2G …… out moto goes 3/4g in both slots.

      • Presently I use an old moto G, the second sim doesn't work anymore! Can I assume that both sims will work in this moto G4plus?
I note that the description in the deal says dual sim (standby), can someone explain what this means as I'm not up with these terms, thanks in advance

        • This comment should explain dual standby

It is a dual sim 4G-3G handset and it is dual standby, not dual active. I think there is some misunderstanding out there of the terms.

Dual Standby means both sims are active, calls can be received on either SIM.

However, as it is dual standby I cannot receive a call on SIM2 if I am on a call on SIM1. Now, in saying that you can able to set voice priority on SIM2 which is on by default which means the data connection on SIM1 is stopped if active so you can receive a call on SIM2.

I'm assuming the second sim doesn't work anymore as you are on Telstra or a provider that uses Telstra which has shut down it's 2G network? Others are doing so this year. If so this phone is 4G/3G, not 4G/2G like older/other dual sim phones so it will certainly fix that problem.

        • @hamza23:
Thanks mate for the explanation, now I understand!
I'd have ordered this deal but the postage is pretty high, guess I'll wait for another deal as I'm not desperate yet :-)

        • @oldrocker:

          No problems

The postage should be $25, total $299.51 delivered, are you in a rural area and it's giving you a postage surcharge? If so and you wanted to order now you can get it this way for $305 delivered white or $309 delivered black which is still decent:

If you are in a DWI defined 'remote area' with an inflated shipping price then you can purchase off their eBay store for $305 white or $309 black shipped - which works out much cheaper.

        • @hamza23:

guessing i can recieve a sms from both since they are both active (sorry for stupid question)

        • @AliensStoleMyMoney:

Yes that's correct. The only limitation is that if you are on a phone call on SIM 1, then you won't receive calls or sms on SIM 2 until the call on SIM 1 is ended.

  • Order placed. Hope this will be a great replacement for my iPhone 5 that has a cracked screen!
Can't wait to get it in the mail :)

  • How does the delivery take?

    • Economy Express Shipping
3-5 working days delivery from time of dispatch

In stock items should be dispatched by the next working day.

  • Is xperia X a good phone? it has snapdragon 650 which is nowhere near the latest but the price is pretty good. Asking for my sis who has been using windows phone for two years, now time to upgrade. She prefers iphone but iphone is a tad bit expensive outright. She wants a phone with camera good enough for snapchat, is this the one to get?

jb hifi selling it for $599, which is not justified since I got Huawei P9 last month for the same price in Harvey Norman and that's a flagship phone.

also the code is not working anymore :/

    • +1

The camera on the Xperia X is very good according to reviews, similar to Galaxy S7 one said and better than the Moto G4 Plus. Good for selfies too apparently :p Snapdragon 650 processor might be a better choice than the Snapdragon 617 in the Moto G4 Plus? Although that performs well also. Looking at reviews they are comparing The Sony X to Galaxy S7, LG G5, HTC 10 which were around the same price range at the time, however all those phones are still very high $500s or low $600s, so at $416 the complaints about 'average value' don't seem relevant and seems a decent buy. Only 6 months ago we had deals for $700 albeit Aus stock.

If you want the Sony design and better camera then might be worth paying a little extra for over the G4 Plus, maybe slightly better performance as well with the processor. Otherwise the Moto G4 Plus is a good all round phone with no major flaws. Also G4 Plus is 5.5" screen vs 5" on the Sony.

      • thanks for the good review, easier to choose now. cheers. will go with sony x

      • does the dual sim model of xperia X come with 4g support or just 3g? i checked gsm arena and it seems 3G only in dual sim model, is that right?

        • +1

I know the dual sim is standby the same as the Moto G4 Plus, see here.

Sim 1 is definitely 4G and 3G. I'm just not sure if the 2nd sim is 3G or 2G. If it's 4G/2G then the dual sim will become useless when the 2G network is shut down this year (Telstra already is).

Whether it's 4G/3G or 4G/2G is often very hard to find out, if you are wanting to use the dual sim function then might be worth giving Sony a call, model F5122. Someone here said that the Xperia X Performance is 4G/3G, so hopefully the Xperia X is the same but not 100% sure.

        • @hamza23: i am seeing android enjoyed selling two variants, have to find out more.

        • +1

          @yummycoot:

Just to clarify, sim 1 definitely supports both 4G and 3G. Just not sure if the second sim card is 3G like the Moto G4 Plus or 2G like older dual sim phones. I didn't write it very clearly.

        • @hamza23: went to JB hifi today to see if they have xperia x on display, they did not, but had it in stock which obviously cannot be opened. Read further reviews and watched videos, convinced that neither is no good. Weighing towards the xiaomi mi5s but not sure if its a dodgy ROM in eglobaldigital compared to dreami or other renowned xiaomi resellers on ali express.

Do you recommend buying xiaomi mi5s from eglobaldigital?

        • +1

          @yummycoot:

I don't know too much about Xiaomi sorry, I'd imagine you are better off going through AliExpress, Geekbuying or similar that appear to have the best deals for them and you can find out exactly what bands, rom etc. they have in the deal so you know what you are getting. I'm sure something would come up looking at past deals: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/xiaomi-mi-5s

        • @hamza23: cheers for the very quick reply, much appreciated.
