Excellent, more printer cartridges and a printer in the bin \o/

    • +5

I know, it really sucks how they price the cartridges so high that its cheaper to buy a new printer.

What can you do - ecological or economical…. I choose to not use a printer if possible.

      • +2

This is the "light bulb effect", it is quite sad :-(

    • take the cartridges and leave the rest at HN if you already got some

  • +2

It's cheaper to buy these than new cartridges.

    • These things don't have a full retail cartridge, the ones supplied don't have all that much ink.

In saying that, I don't have any experience with this model, but even with expensive full-priced printers they don't give you a full cartridge.

So I wouldn't imagine this to have full ones.

Not saying it isn't cheaper or a good deal, just don't expect full cartridges.

      • +1

These actually do have full ink cartridges.

        • LOL, looks like 2 people got their feelings hurts because I corrected the poster by saying that these come with 2 full cartridges.

      • the Japanese tend to be more "honest" than the Americans! Try HP for being supplied with just a few drops!
Sadly people in Vietnam working in sweat shops like slaves to build them.
Canon makes much more money in their office supply chain than their photography section.
Getting their name out is what they want the more you see that logo the more brain washed dumb customers become!

Remember to recycle your printers for the sake of your future generations

    • -1

Yes straight into the councils recycling bin

      • +1

They will be curious why the sudden influx of brand new printers minus the ink

      • Where do you find these councils recycling bin?

        • -1

In councils, if they're amalgamated then look for amalgamated recycling bins.

      • Please! do not strain your local council for a crime they did not commit! Take a carpet knive to HN and remove cartridges on the counter while paying.
This is the only way retailers get the message. They must allow you this.

  • +1

can you continue using the scanning function without any ink?

    • yes

    • -1

A few reviews say scanning won't work without ink, Canon's website and brochure also states a full set of inks are required for full functionality

    • +4

To reset the ink detection, simply press and hold “Stop” (button with orange circle and triangle) for 5 seconds. The Alarm should clear and the printer will allow you to scan once again.

      • I don't own one of these, yet, so need to ask.
How often will I need to apply the workaround & will this work for other models.
        Great tip, thanks.

    • Keeps scanning with empty ink only with "old" software usually found on the net

  • A few negative reviews at Product Review - most people seem to be complaining because it doesn't come with a USB cable, though a couple mention scanning issues.

My local HN is showing them in stock - might have to grab one I think.

A few negative reviews at Product Review

That's pretty much all there is at that site.

The first "review" is a great example:

comes without a cable. No problem I thought. I spent an hour online trying to find out what specific cable to buy online. even tried the CANON website with no luck. Rang Canon and spent 20 minutes online while they tried to find out and THEY DIDNT KNOW! Just a generic cable is what canon told me, so that's what i bought online and guess what IT DOES NOT FIT!. Its an absolute waste of space, time and money. NOT HAPPY.

      • I like:

I have been waiting five weeks to drive 4 hours to my nearest town to buy a new printer and drove all the way back to find it does not have a USB cord and it won't install on my computer. I am wild. This is a joke and will never buy Canon again.

    • +1

shows you how dumb most reviewers are. The cable status is clearly displayed on the box!

Parents bought me an MG2560 as a backup printer maybe a year or so ago and I opened it last week. It came with a USB cable.

Disappointingly, it's not a wireless printer (ie must use a USB cable to print). Printing speed is acceptable for its price, quality is average. Scanning speed is acceptable, though scanning quality was below average, but perhaps I haven't configured settings properly. Canon software isn't too bad and I found it easy to install on both Windows 7 and 10 laptops.

Overall, a very basic printer that is very good for its price, although I need to use it much more before being able to make a proper assessment.

I've used HP, Fuji Xerox and Canon printers. By far the most user-friendly, with great software is HP IMHO. I worked my old HP Photosmart B110a hard, with generic inks and a fairly heavy print load (university lecture slides + notes + miscellaneous print jobs), which lasted 3-4 years. I would easily purchase another one of these.

    • +1

LOL! $17 wireless printer? how cheap is chip?(wireless)

not to mention the printer itself, ink cartridges, the box, the packaging, the shipping……

      • I don't dispute that Canon may be copping a loss on these. I just thought the pervasiveness of wifi, this printer may be wireless too. Just giving my view on things

    • wouldn't you get your parents to make the purchase… i doubt you've even bought a printer in your lifetime.

      • Not sure about the point you're trying to make. I bought that HP one myself and the most recent one I've bought was a Fuji Xerox CM225FW, which works well but sometimes has connectivity issues

  • These printer deals are becoming like eneloops. I have about 5 different ones all new in box taking up space in the spare room, I just can't go past a good bargain.

    • +1

Going straight to the pool room!

    • After buying one of these on the weekend…I went back today and bought two more, since they're cheaper than buying replacement ink cartridges on their own!

  • I have one of these as my back up printer, I'm very happy with it for the price. I will attempt DIY ink refill from eBay once it runs out, failing that, I would repurchase.

    • Mine did not come with a USB cable, but I had read reviews and specs before purchasing, and have a spare cable anyway, so this did not bother me.

  • Most Printers do not come with an USB Cable

  • No free movies tickets this time?
    Delivery is $6.

  • Gerry Harvey should be happy with all the HVN deals :-)

  • -1

Bought a hp deskjet to replace this. Generic ink is cheap and it's easy to use

    • this is a Canon discussion, Japanese quality, not sort of J Trump bluff…

  • +1

Looking at the actual box, the printer comes with 645 & 646 standard ink cartridges, not test cartridges. I think yield is 180 pages for each

  • Just get a printer cable at msy for 1 buck….

Ok grabbed one from my local HN - woman lined up behind me at the counter did a double take when she heard the sales girl ask for $17, "Seventeen dollars?!? Did you say SEVENTEEN dollars?????"

    • +4

Lol my local HN tried to sting me $33 which was the sticker price. I asked them if that was the best price they could do and the guy said he could knock it down by 10% to $30, feeling pretty good about himself. I told him nah I'll take it for $17 as advertised on the website. :)

      • +1

Lol, what a jerk! I've had to mention their website's lower price a few times when purchasing from them, as they are more than happy to sell it at the sticker price despite an item being on special.

      • standard practice on HN! They have been fined so many times about this and doing it again and again!

  • +1

Just bought one of these for $17. Found an old cable from my collection and set it up in about 5 mins. Plugged it into in my macbook pro laptop which automatically recognised it and added the required software. Printed a colour page and found the quality to be excellent. Opened the printer settings, selected scan and scanned a couple of pages which also turned out great. Simple to use and not much to go wrong. I'm extremely impressed. Unplugged it and took it down the back room. Will report back in a year to advise whether the inkjets have clogged up.

    • "I'm extremely impressed."

I was so impressed with mine i bought a refill kit for it. Shame the paper feed mechanism stuffed up before my original black cartridge ran out. Still use it as a Scanner, so not a total waste of money.

  • yeh paper feed is why my first one went in the bin. Terrible design and guaranteed to fail

  • Just picked up mine from Harvey Norman.
Used it to photocopy and turned out great.
    Can't complain for $17….yet.

  • $28 now :(
