Having Trouble Finding a Mouse Pad I Like

Hi all,

I'm having trouble finding a mouse pad that I like, I've tried a few over the years but I haven't liked most of them and I'd like some suggestions.

My requirements are:

  • At least 30x25cm, can be somewhat larger (eg for whole keyboard and mouse)
  • Smooth (plastic surface?), yet a small amount compliance (not completely hard)
  • Thin, sits flat and doesn't move around in use.
  • Not have lumpy or sharp edges
  • Not too expensive (I mean not $30 for a mouse pad that costs 50c to make!?!)
  • Look somewhat tasteful (no ugly graphics), plain black is acceptable.

Mousepads I have used and dislike:

Razer Goliathus - too thick, not smooth surface, lumpy edges
Logitech G240 - very thin, but does not stay flat and mouse doesn't always track properly
Various generic rubber pads - too small, too thick, rough surface
Rigid PVC pad
Aluminium pad

Mousepads I have used and liked:

NSA souvenir pad (was thin, had smooth plastic, slightly flexible surface, stayed in place - was last made 15-20 years ago)

Any suitable suggestions will be appreciated.

  • Used a magazine or catalogue

  • just kept trying until u found the right material, then double side taped on the table, glue on a plastic board first if it's too soft.

Might be too small for you, but I quite like those USD$0.99 customised mouse pad from ArtsCow. It's 23.5 x 19.7 x 0.3cm.

  • Sorry can't help you too much, but carbon fibre that has been autoclaved in a vacuum bag makes for a really nice mouse pad.

    Look at razor destructor.

I love my Logitech G440 so much I bought one for work.

3mm thick, 340 wide and 240mm long (deep?)

Textured plastic on top, rubber underneath, so it doesn't really move much, though you could tape it down if it bothered you.

They're not super cheap (around $20 I think) but I love them. It's black and only has the little Logitech "G" in the corner as far as graphics go.

  • Roccat Hiro?

  • A silicone baking sheet?

Basically a big flat smooth sheet of slightly rubbery/plasticky material. Silicone has a bit of "give" in it. i think it would grip a smooth flat surface but have enough traction for a mouse.

You can get them in Kmart and home wares shops for about $10.

  • Thanks everyone, some creative suggestions and a few products to check out in person (G440 and Destructor sound like my description!).
