  • I don't feel you'd be able to do much with a 5kg bar…

I don't think so too, but if you add weights onto the bar, that's different story.

Not suitable for use with Squat Rack

So the straight bar is for from the floor lifts… but it doesn't have bumper plates and you can't get bumper plates for it (the bar is too skinny for bumper plates).

You can do barbell curls with it. Good Mornings, I guess. A few other things. Pretty much anything you can do with it is better done another way.

The curl bar is OK if you're after a curl only bar but if you're after a curl only bar you've probably already got other equipment that's probably got weights in the Olympic fitting and not the skinny "standard" fitting.

They're the sort of sets that you grow out of really quickly if you're even semi-serious about training because they require a bunch of other stuff that they aren't compatible with to be useful. They're a temporary stop gap or, more likely, a use-it-a-few-times-and-abandon-it set.

The concern is that it would have a low weight limit.

      • I use a 20kg bar which is about standard for competition. Don't know if I would trust a bar 1/4 of that weight to hold up well under load.

    • Yeah. This would be a good set for a child or a small (< 5'2") woman. And both of them would grow out of them with age and/or training.

      • It won't increase the height TBH.

        Do you even lift bro?

        • I lift bro…

          Bench press 100kg 1RM
          Deadlift 110kg 1 RM

          My weight 80kg.

          Hasher22 is right.

@ms: If you are benching 100 and DL 110 you REALLY need to work on your DL more. I hope your squat is more than your bench, but from those numbers possibly not

        • @knobbs:

I know right. DL I have started focusing on lately. Had some issues with my back in the past. It's all sorted now. Will eventually increase but I am not in a rush.

        • @ms: Good to hear my man! Keep at it

        • @knobbs:
Cheers mate. Gym is a place where my mind can relax. I do what I feel is right for my body. Sometimes observe the heavy lifters and learn from them.

My body is of my own making and I am happy with it. Not perfect, but not something to be ashamed of.

Motivation to keep fit drives me.

        • @ms: You mean motivation to look good naked :P

        • @ms: The sore back excuse strikes again. ;).

          @Tasmaniac:

Lol. OK, I admit I was lazy.

        • @knobbs:

At my age, doesn't really matter.

  • The Bumper Weight Plates for $50 is really good value, I just don't know why they only included one 20kg plate.. :rolleyes;

    • +1

Those are good prices even for crappy bumpers. I assume it's because all of the bumper packages are $50 and weigh a total of 20kg. I'd hope anyone buying a 20kg single bumper would… uh… have a lonely orphaned 20kg bumper at home that needed a friend :P

    • Yeah that's a deal breaker for many.

    • I use single playes for kegel exercises but 20kg is really pretty high…

    • Hey mate, were the bumper weight plates made for olympic bars, or are they the smaller standard bar holes?

  • It seems inferior seeing that it requires assembly.

  • Is the bar diameter the same as a standard dumbbell set? You could use the weights for those maybe?

    • Yes it is. 2.54cm (1 inch) is pretty much the standard size. Not for Olympic bars though.

    Been weighting for this

    • Okay fine, take my upvote.
