Dunlop Volleys $11.24 at Payless Shoes (75% off)

950

Bargain price for some good ol' Volleys. Now you too can look like an unemployed ex tennis player from the 70s for a fraction of the regular cost.

They had a bunch of sizes left. I only saw them in black and white but they may have other colors. They even had size 13 if you're that well endowed.

For $11.24 they're pretty well built. My previous pair lasted a fair while. They didn't accessorize with anything, but other than my girlfriend, who cares.

Couldn't link to paylessshoes.com.au because they didn't seem to have any stock info, with going out of business and all that. They're doing 50% to 75% at the moment.

Original pic I put up for posterity

Why, $11 is a great deal for a pair of Volleys. The pic was obviously a joke.

… and people wonder why new accounts aren't allowed to to downvote - it's because they don't know how to use them properly. With great power comes great responsibility / reading the Wiki on how to use votes

    Love the Pic hahahahaha

They're closing all their stores down, 50 - 75% off everything in their administrator's sale.

I was disappointed to see footware on my screen.

    • Does anyone know if the Westfield Eastgardens (NSW) store has already shut down? The phone number doesn't connect and it doesn't come up on the website store locator.

  • Love the old Dunlop Volleys. They were very comfy with a good pair of insoles.

These new ones aren't as good but still a great buy at this price.

Can sometimes find them at Dimmeys for $15 if you miss this deal.

    • "They were very comfy with a good pair of insoles"

So in other words they're not very comfortable.

      • Maybe the insoles just made them more comfortable, so without them they are just comfy?

      • +2

They used to come with good insoles (& thicker sole as can now feel stones through them) - much more comfy than recent ones.

Once were my comfy shoe of choice, worn until they resembled the ones in the photo. But became smelly with age😯

      • +1

@Infidel: Yep, the old Volleys had good insoles included. I'd recommend replacing the insoles in these new Volleys with a decent set.

    • The one in the photo above looks great, but the ones at Dimmeys always look terrible for some reason, like rejects from the factory.

  • +2

Together with some really good shoe insoles these make some good all day work shoes.

  • Paid $50 a month ago for the steel cap black ones

  • Might buy some sandals if 75% off.

All sandals were 75% from memory.

Volleys make great gym shoes. Flat soles and good stability for deadlifting and squats and they breathe. I wish Converse CTAS were constructed as well.

    • +4

      Really?

I thought quality suffered a massive drop since Pacific Brands moved their manufacturing to China.

      • +5

Pacific Brands (and Blundstone for that matter) really declined across the board as they stripped cost and quality from their products to inflate profits.

There are two main types of Volleys now, the super-thin crap ones (have had 2 pairs wear through within weeks) and the thicker soled, thicker material type which have a rubber shoe cap as well that are significantly better.

Can't remember the names, but one was the "International".

        • These seem to be the thicker sole ones.

      • I always wondered why the last two pairs of volley's didn't last as long this time, and holes come in a lot earlier.

    • Check out the Converse Chuck IIs. Nike recently bought Converse and updated the Chuck. They are a load more comfortable with a new insole and more padding in general. The design is also slightly cleaner in my opinion and the salesperson mentioned that they supposedly last longer than the original Chucks (not sure how they could know that but I'd already bought them at this point so it wasn't some bs attempt to sell me on them)

Are these still as narrow as a nun's…?

My wide flat plodders don't typically fit into them.

    • +1

I have flat feet and these fit alright. I can't wear Cons though because they tend to be too narrow.

      • I can't wear cons either, but volleys work on my wide hooves (no up-size necessary).

    • Yep still narrow.

Came back with a pair of steel caps by mistake boxed in the regular non steel capped and im a toe too wide.

  • Great show for a great price.

Volleys aren't as good quality anymore, they don't last long

  • Volleys are good for canyoning… as long as they arn't the 'newer/pricer' kind.

Bought 2 at this sale - and tried them on a decent walk today. Fark they are so uncomfortable - not even close to the Volleys I had when I was a teenager all those years ago! For me to continue walking in these I'll need to find some insoles to suit. Buyer beware - these are cheap for a reason.

    • +1

Thanks for the heads up, I won't bother then

      • +1

In the shop I was all nostalgic about finding cheap Volleys and thought 'what a bargain'. After a short walk I had sore feet … What rubbish these new versions are!

    • It takes a while for your feet to build up their own arch support. I went from arch support nikes for a lifetime to volleys…took a while to get used to it.

  • I bought some volleys last year form Target and found my feet got super hot in the sole…

  • Even for only $10 I wouldn't bother with these. I bought a pair last year (from kmart or target, can't remember which) and they barely lasted a month before the sole had holes in it and my feet were getting wet. They're just not worth the hassle.

  • There's better deals than that. Payless is closing fown. The Champion memory foam sneakers are $12.50. They have Champion plain white kids sneakers and plain black for $12.50 and leather Grosby school schoes. It's seriously a bargain. I bought 5 pairs for $60

It's hard to find all white snaekers for school. The Black Champion memory foam comes in mens, womens and kids. Really comfy. My husband and don loves it.

    • +3

Don? Like Capone? Did he make you an offer you cannot refuse?

    • The Champion memory foam sneakers are $12.50.

Scanned at $25 for me. :/

      • +1

Sorry, it's the plain black ones. The coloured ones are $25.

  • RIP Payless Shoes.
You were very good to me :'(

Just went into the store on Elisabeth St, Melbourne. I have never seen such a huge collection of butt-ugly shoes. No wonder the place is going into administration. That being said there are lots of size 9,10s. Also there was two rather nice looking FILA soccer/football shoes for $20.
