    Good time to stock up.

  • Isn't this just called the $30 starter kit? -_-

  • -4

    So wait … is this 3x$30?

    NVM … is there actually any K-marts open at 8:00PM on a Sunday?

    • +3

      It's triple sim meaning it has a normal sim, a micro sim and a nano sim

    • +2

      The 24 hour kmarts…?

  • Worst thing about Optus sims is they're often short dated expiry. Any expiry is annoying. Thanks for sharing tho.

    • +1

      If it wasn't the case I'd be buying a dozen and get sorted for a long time. It is good an bad it is short dated. Bad as in I can't buy enough for a year and not to think about it for a year. Good as in you could buy enough to last you a long time and then 3 months later you find something cheaper, but too late now, you already bought those.

      TLDR, cat and mouse game, porting in, porting out…

      • sorry, what's the deal with porting? … haven't you ever heard of "SIM replacement with credit transfer?"

        • Did you do sim replacement via my account online or go to a store to do it? Because I tried to do it via my account , it never succeeded. So I had to do sim replacement by popping into a shop to ask them to do it..

        • not many people heard this…i heard it before xmas thought whirlpool, i have been doing it since then.

        • @Micky14:

          you can't do it yourself, but you can definitely get online staff to do it. however, i'd say only about 30% of staff are familiar with the process. once you have them do it once, ask them for a receipt. from then on, whenever they insist you go to a store, just refuse to do so and provide them with the previous chat id.

          Cool~ thank u so much

      All the packs I have bought have over 1 year till expiry.I use the $2 a day plan so should cost $60 for 30 days but as I buy for $10 a pack only costs $20 a month for unli calls and text and 15 gigs data, 30x500.

      • +3

        All the new starter packs now have a sticker on them saying you need to activate within 30 days of purchase

        • Really? How do they track what date you purchased it?

        • +2

          @WaywardOne: Through the gift card system, which is what it's classified as in the store.

        • really? Ive never encountered this with optus starter kits (but haven't bought any new ones in the last couple of months though)

        • I want to know too if they enforced 30 days activation from purchase?
          They definitely know when the pack purchased as it was activated at checkout (do self checkout and see the screen flashes with activation).

        • @cimot: Apparently it's enforced according to a post on Whirlpool. It'll throw a SIMVAL-008 error if you try to activate after the 30 days and Optus Support can't do anything about it apparently.

          PS. I haven't tried myself so I'm not 100% sure

          @Hieu Le: I would've thought so…
          They're cracking down on portings

          I guess other providers will soon follow.

        • @cimot: Moreso cracking down on hoarding I reckon. These starter packs seem to be on special every fortnight or so at Coles/Woolies/OW so porting in/out every month shouldn't be too much of an issue… yet (unless they stop discounting all together like Telstra - haven't seen any specials on their starter packs for a while).

          Even if that's true I will activate about 6 sims on the $2 a day plan which gives 6 months to use. And I have a dual sim phone so my main number will have no credit but receives and I will use the other 6 sims to make calls and text and 500 megs a day net.

        • @paulaus: hi, does the $2 a day only get charged if u incur a cost?

          How about spotify then

        • +1

          @jes: yes only activates the $2 if a call or text or data is turned on.

        • @paulaus: how about free music streaming then?

          @Hieu Le:

          sir, i believe you are incorrect, two-fold:

          1. i'm about 95% confident the SIMVAL-008 error means that somebody has activated your prepaid starter kit without purchasing it. how could that be? i won't elaborate any further, but YES, i can back up my claim.

          2. "optus support can't do anything about it apparently".

          it isn't so much they can't do anything about it, more that it is they are unwilling to do anything about it. you are correct on one front, however: even if they wanted to do something about it, they are far too incompetent to know what to do. so in a sense they can't do anything about it. i am presently in the latter states of finalising ~$650 compensation from optus for time lost handling their rubbish… and about to have my mobile service credited with >$500 prepaid credit from the roughly 50/80 starter kits i purchased but found to be faulty.

          @firstworldproblems:

          Can confirm that Optus support is useless. This is not hyperbole.

        • +1

          @Hogg:

          bro, you don't know the half of it. i refuse to subsidise their incompetence with my time, and have been invoicing them whenever they waste my time.

          were it not for the fact that i am in the process of settling a serious complaint that would be of particular interest to everyone on this forum, i would post some very embarrassing and damaging things both here and on whirlpool. (what can i say, i'm a sellout).

        • @firstworldproblems: I stand corrected then! Cheers for clearing it up as I wasn't sure, hence all the "apparently" lol.

          Am curious to see whether this 30 day thing is actually enforced or not then.

        • @paulaus:

          so to clarify: once it ticks over past midnight, and your phone connects to the cell tower, that alone is insufficient to incur the $2? hmmm… gotta start paying more attention to my bills.

    • I was able to get starter packs from 7 Eleven in November that have an expiry in September 2018 ie. almost 2 years, so it's not that bad.

  • +1

    where are the $1 ($10) starter packs :((

    • I just checked the optus website. It looks like they have abandoned the $10 week-plan. Instead, $10 only for one-day use.

    • LOL last time i attempted to do a price match on a $1 starter kit at kmart they refused to honour their price matching promotion and would only sell it to me for $5. when i started voice recording them they threatened to have me ejected by security because they "didn't give permission to record them" … i just laughed and suggested that they call the police instead. i intend to take it to the NCAT later in the year when i find the time.
      quite amusing all round.

  • I think they had this special at Big W last week

  • All sold out the 3 Kmarts in Newcastle NSW area: Kotara, Waratah, Glendale.
