Macro Organic Frozen Mixed Berries 300g - $3.50 (1/2 price) - Woolworths

390

Blueberries, Raspberries, etc. (mixed).

It turns out to be $11.67/kg (after 50% discount), which is very good compared to the non-organic Creative Gourmet one ($9/kg after 25% discount also at WW)

  • If you have an ALDI nearby you can get frozen berries for around $7.50/kg.

If you have a Costco nearby you can get frozen berries for around $6.50/kg.

If you're stuck with Woolworths and you think Organic is better for you, half price is definitely cheaper.

I once left a tomato out of the fridge for 2 months and nothing happened to it (except that it started to shrink after a couple of weeks).

The bacteria just got tired and left it alone. I don't believe in non-organic fruit, but the sugar and some vitamins can be readily absorbed.

        Thanks for the anecdotal evidence.

      • "the bacteria just got tired and left it alone"
That's not how it works, sorry

        • I assume he was being facetious. The premise a lot of food produce lasts considerably longer than you would expect is correct though.

        • Can you guide me how it works instead of negging and trolling? Do you know about half-life and the relative ability of bacteria to digest all the matter?

    • Even if you have neither of those stores nearby, it's still well worth the trip as the Coles/woolies duopoly tries to jack us so much.

      • To be honest, it's not that their prices are too high as is commonly complained, but rather how much they squeeze their suppliers that should leave a bad taste in consumers' mouths.

If they dropped their prices further, yet didn't loosen their predilection for strangling producers, you can imagine that the least fortunate in the supply chain would probably go on to die by starvation, ironically.

the home brand woolworths ones are $8 a kilo standard

    • +1

How much are the non-standard kilo ones?

      • they don't sell kilo bags

      • +2

The imperial kilo ones? Not sure

  • +3

    Which country are they from?

    • I came across them when ordering online. Haven't seen the package yet.

    I believe Chile

  • Coles frozen berries are from Chile - $4 per 500g pack. They stopped doing 3 packs for $10 about a year ago.

      • Same argument goes with anything frozen that doesn't need cooking

    "non-organic Creative Gourmet"

Thats a good one, are the Creative Gourmet ones plastic?

    • Almost…

      • I am assuming that they have all sorts of phosphates and nitrates added.

        • Or, is it inorganic?

        • Organic has no pesticides, right? Chemical free?

        • +1

          @Mic Cullen:

Organic means natural, living, which many things are: wood, some cosmetics, some foods, fruits and vegetables. The OP means that Macro brand is a certified organic product which is based on seeds and soil passing certain criterea and the farming must be pesticide and harmful chemical free.

@Crownanchor: Seriously, anyone who believes that "organic" means "no pesticides" has WAY less than no idea.

        • @Mic Cullen:
          No synthetic pesticides.

    • Mm, digital strawberries.

  • Anyone tried mixing these with their protein shakes?

    • Yes, I've tried all the brands on the market I think, and I've never had a problem mixing them with smoothies and protein shakes. Blue/Black berries will give it a somewhat bitter-ish taste which I've always found tolerable, and straw/rasp berries barely give any flavour tbh. I always thought they'd make the smoothie sweeter, but it's rarely the case unless you use fruits like watermelon, mango, etc.

As for the quality, both Coles and Woolies frozen fruits are essentially identical. It wouldn't surprise me if they came from the same source in Chile. The Aldi ones are also quite good. Creative Gourmet is noticeably worse but is still fine to use, depending on their specials.

      • Thanks! I'll give them a try.

    for those looking for aussie grown;

stumbled across these at Drakes Foodland last night (SA)

prices from $20 to $26 /kg dependant on the bag.

  • I could not see these listed on the woolworths website

    • It is still there for SA…maybe different listing for different states.

      • Yes cannot find in NSW. Is it nationwide?

        • I bought some last week but when I tried to get a raincheck on Tuesday, all the shelf price tkts had gone. Looks like WW has dropped the line.
