Puppy Food Buying in Bulk Other than Supermarkets

I'm looking for a good online pet store or physical store where puppy food prices (Royal Canin etc.) are more like wholesale prices and deliver. Just somewhere I can put in an order, it comes every month and is better value than buying in store / supermarkets. Be interested in everyone's thoughts

  • I am sure Petbarn and Petstock do this if you ask them to set up a reorder schedule and it discounts the price
you aren't going to get "wholesale pricing unless you're an actuall store or reseller imho

    • petbarn is a total rip these days

      • depending on when you go
I seem to get constant 20 to 35% off vouchers
make it much of a cheaper rip off I guess :)

Pet circle does it too I think

If your looking for value for money go for black hawk puppy 20kg bags. Seems like a big outlay but you don't need to buy any wet food.

I use Pet Circle and I also buy Black Hawk - can vouch for both.

I don't know that the super premium foods like Royal Canin are on discount all that often.

    • Yeah I saw Pet Circle, looks like good value. Are all the Black Hawk flavours good for doggy, is there one you wouldn't recommend.

      • I prefer the fish and potato variety- I think it has fewer calories than the lamb/ chicken and rice ones and since I have Labradors who tend to eat indiscriminately, anything that I can do in terms of providing fewer calories for them in their daily food is a good thing. My most recent purchase is actually the grain free variety which I am trying because one is a very itchy dog and I want to see if maybe it his food that causes it (although I suspect he has a grass allergy). Regardless of this both my boys have lovely soft and glossy coats, which I attribute to their food, and even better their poo is firm and small. And if you've ever had to pick up Labrador bombs before you'd know that's a blessing!

I'd check the ingredients list for both adult and puppy varieties and compare. Maybe do some research about when to introduce adult dog food - I know we did it much earlier than the brands recommended because it was far too high in calories for our boy. I think it will depend on your breed and in particular the size of your dog.

Finally I did note that some extra large bags of Advance- - super premium brand - were currently on special - didn't check to see if they had puppy stage food. And it's only a bargain if your dog will eat it - no point buying 20 kilos if they have never had it before and you have a fussy dog!

        • ok good info, we have a whippet.

        • @mreddie: I don't know much about whippets. I guess you probably know about this organisation http://www.whippetvic.com but I'll leave the web address just in case.

A quick read of their site says whippets are small eaters. I guess you could also discuss with your breeder and/or Vet.

          Cheers

I use pet circle as well, quick delivery, good customer service and significantly cheaper bulk dry food for cats and dogs. I usually buy Advance and kitten toys.

  • Are you in Sydney? I have a contact who schedules pet food delivers in the metro area.

    • No Melbourne

I've found these guys are consistently cheaper, but you need to factor in postage too.

  • I don't know about dog food, but for my pets food I order online from various places.

They haven't been mentioned here yet so thought I might as well share links in case they do have good prices..
