Half not working? I count 31 rides operating out of 35 and rides are not the only part of Dreamworld. We can let votes decide if it is a bargain ;)

        • +3

not true, 3 of the main rides still wasn't working but there's plenty.

you may aswell add express pass to rides as part of the deal as well, due to the very sad unfortunate incident at the park it's very quiet, wouldn't expect to wait more than 10 min for a ride.

        • +2

@yacman: People can be quite silly. I went to Japan a few months after the tsunami, it was fantastic as there were very few foreigners.

        • -1

@Putnum: Probably a few less locals too :(

        • +5

Looks like your radio is half not working

        • +1

@DrDuck: Actually we got a room upgrade in Shinagawa (Tokyo) because their older building was being used as temp housing for victims, so if anything there were more locals nearby.

        • +3

trust JV to write some absolute rubbish without checking facts first.

        • +1

          @adam456:

          without checking facts first.

As I said, it was on the radio.

    • Not sure about DW, but when we went last year to Movie world, more than 30% of the rides were closed. Same in Water world.

  • +2

How many of those 33 rides are actually open and working?

    • +31

How many other Dreamworld's are there in Aus?

        • +36

Given recent events, you'd have to have been living under a rock to not know where Dreamworld is these days. It was even in international news

        • +6

I think a large number of Australian's are aware of Dreamworld especially if you watched the news in the last few months..

        • +14

If you live in Perth you would know that there isn't much in WA anyway.

        • +10

Thats like saying put NSW in the title on a deal for the Opera House.

        • -3

@Thefong: Theres no need to be so presumptuous mate.

      • +26

How many other Dreamworld's are there in Aus?

Isn't there one at Kings Cross?

        • JV got +ve votes including mine. I must be in DREAMWORLD

      • +2

        Pretty sure there's a gentlemen's club called "Dreamworld"…

        • +13

They'd sell a heck of a lot of season passes at $64.

        • +1

          Pretty sure there's a gentlemen's club called "Dreamworld"…

They have some great thrill rides there…

      • +5

        He said kindly

  • +9

It's a very sad and unfortunate accident but I hope that I never read the news one day that it has gone bust. They employ so many ppl.

We have had many happy memories at Dreamworld. I'm tempted to buy just to support the company!

My kids are all at school and we never go on weekends n public holidays because it's too busy. Now may be perfect because weekends are quiet.

White Water World is great and skypoint deck

    • +1

Weekends are not very busy so yes, it is a good time to visit!.

    • +7

Employing a large number of staff doesn't give them a free pass.

Has there been a single resignation from management?

Amazingly coincidental that their so called thorough investigation on many rides, just happen to be finished in time for Christmas school holidays. Allowing them to open for their busiest time.

They originally wanted to reopen only after a few days after the deaths. Highly incentive and dangerous.

Bet the police investigation will be swept under the rug by the government, far too much tourist money created.

Only way I'll ever return there (despite how many good memories I have of the place) will be if the entire board steps down.

Why was there no fail safe for a backlog of crafts? A simple sensor and kill switch. Let me guess, too much $$$?

Why were the gears in the conveyor belt exposed? A few pieces of wood could of made this much less tragic?

      • +14

Amazingly coincidental that their so called thorough investigation on many rides, just happen to be finished in time for Christmas school holidays.

Do you reckon they planned the timing of the accident?

        • +8

          Dreamworld has W in it.
W looks like 2 upside down triangles together.
          Illuminati confirmed.

        • Do you reckon they planned the timing of the accident?

No, but the "investigation" could of been rushed to ensure it just happen to finish in time to minimise damage to profits.

        • +2

          @PainToad:

4 tier investigation…. Dreamworld, WHS QLD, Pitt and Sherry and International Theme Park Consultants

There is no safer park in the world.

        • @PainToad:

No, but the "investigation" could of been rushed to ensure it just happen to finish in time to minimise damage to profits.

They didn't have any control over the investigation.

        • +3

          @jv:

They didn't have any control over the investigation.

          "Independent*" investigation.

          *Paid for by DreamWorld.

        • +1

@cwongtech: you mean half life 3 confirmed

          "Independent*" investigation.
          *Paid for by DreamWorld.

You do realise police get paid by the people who they investigate too…

        • +2

@cwongtech: It goes much deeper, cwongtech. The accident was caused by former KGB agents who now answer directly to Vladimir Putin, in an attempt to sabotage the Gold Coast's economy as retaliation for Tony Abbott's 'shirt fronting' of Putin over MH17.

The Russians. They're responsible for everything that goes wrong in the world. Allegedly.

      • +3

DUDE pull your head out of your butt for a second.

This is not the place to vent your issues.

I'm pretty certain that due to the publicity this wont be swept under the rug and i am certain that there are people especially the families that want answers.

Ride break down, they aren't sentient you can have all the safety kill switches in the world and still have an issue.

Accidents happen - sadly this one took the life of four people and destroyed families.

I am choosing to support them as i have fond memories of Dreamworld and i believe that they wouldn't reopen rides until the safety reports deemed them to be safe.

        • +1

This is not the place to vent your issues.

          My issues?

          Ride break down

They sure do. All the time. Movie World and Sea World had rides stop this summer. The difference? No one bloody died because adequate safety persuasions were in place.

all the safety kill switches in the world and still have an issue.

Or in this case, none. Have you actually been on the ride? It was all manual, doesn't appear to be any safety overrides thought through to handle human error. Manual operated rides might of been acceptable in the 80s, but technology has improved. So should of DreamWorld. But profits come first it appears.

Accidents happen - sadly this one took the life of four people and destroyed families.

An accident that seems to have been easily avoided, if safety was correctly thought through. That's the problem.

i believe that they wouldn't reopen rides until the safety reports deemed them to be safe.

Yeah, just like how I believed they wouldn't operate a dangerous ride in the first place. Their brand is far too damaged.

        • -2

@PainToad: When did you last check your fire alarm with actual smoke? What's the trip time on your RCDs? Is there a CO alarm in your garage/kitchen? Do you ride in a motor vehicle on public roads?

Yes, someone at Dreamworld stuffed up. There was likely a gap in their (C)HAZOP, failing to recognize the full extent of the "water level" hazard, and/or assuming that scenario was impossible. Do they do a full formal re-assessment of rides periodically? Probably not, it's often not a legal requirement - as long as it was deemed safe at the time of design/install.

And I think you will find there were a variety of automatic controls on the ride, but not one to properly detect the scenario that occurred.

        • @PainToad:

Sorry, but you do realise the word is HAVE, not of!

Manual operated rides might HAVE been acceptable in the 80s, but technology has improved. So should HAVE DreamWorld.

        • This is not the place to vent your issues.

Should I be congratulating you on your purchase of Ozbargain? No perhaps on becoming supreme dictator? Delusions of being Trump?

Ride break down, they aren't sentient you can have all the safety kill switches in the world and still have an issue.

You can design your ride so that it doesn't become a human meat grinder when something goes wrong, and you can train your staff properly instead of sticking a girl in charge of that kill switch unsupervised on the first day of her job. I sincerely hope you are never in charge of any safety process.

        • @abb:

When did you last check your fire alarm with actual smoke? What's the trip time on your RCDs? Is there a CO alarm in your garage/kitchen? Do you ride in a motor vehicle on public roads?

When's the last time you designed a ride so that people fall into it and it becomes a human meat grinder when something goes wrong?

When's the last time you hired a teen to operate dangerous equipment and left them on their own to run it on their first day?

      • +4

Not sure why you are getting negged for your point of view. I also didnt hear anything about investigations afterwards.
Taken how much tourists come to these places and amount of money they make, they need to invest more on maintenance and fail safe methods to avoid such incidents in the future. So cant support companies with blindly if they don't do anything about safety now for all the rides and hope this does not hide under the rug taken the amount of revenue they make.
I think there might be a decline in visitors there and thus the deal..

      • As far as the "police investigation will be swept under the rug…" - You obviously have no idea of how deaths are reported and investigated in Queensland. Nothing is going to be "swept under the rug". Ridiculous and baseless statement.

        • +1

Nothing is going to be "swept under the rug". Ridiculous and baseless statement.

Sorry, should of said legitimate investigation where ministers aren't putting pressure on the police. Thought that was clear but.

        • -2

@PainToad: Like I said, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Police act on behalf, and report directly to, the Coroner when investigating a death. Every single aspect of the investigation leaves a digital and paper trail. In this day and age, death investigations in Queensland are not compromised or influenced by politicians. Take off your tin foil hat.

        • +5

dude, do you honestly think there is 0% chance of any biases showing up in the investigation? These are people we're talking about, not robots. Everyone has opinions, whether conscious or no. Instead of telling someone to remove their tin foil hat, maybe realise corruption does exist, and just because you don't personally see or believe it, doesn't mean that it doesn't.

        • @PainToad:

Should HAVE! It sounds like should of but it is should've which is short for should have.
          Would've = would have.

        • -2

@EmililyVictoria: Please, tell me about your first hand experience and knowledge of the subject, and how you've come to the conclusion that it is probable that police and the state coroner will demonstrate a level of bias when investigating coronial matters?

    • +1

I love Dreamworld but can't say the same about White Water World when Wet N' Wild is a few minutes down the road. It is convenient if you are planning to go to Dreamworld on a hot day and would like to go and have a swim, but if I was going to a water park specifically I'd pick Wet and Wild any day of the week. There's just way more to do.

  • +1

    Great deal.

  • +5

I have held a Dreamworld pass since 2005, and the park is looking great, more shows than usual and they have brought back the popular live scare attraction "Zombie Evilution" (weekends only).

In comparison to the other group, currently a major coaster is closed (unforseeable part failure), flume ride standing but not operating leaving Sea World with two adult rides. On the positives aa major new coaster later this year.

I have passes for both as a local and I spend the majority of time at Dreamworld.

  • how long are seasons passes valid for dont they expired june 30 th or is it 12months from date of purchase?

    • "Unlimited entry to Dreamworld, WhiteWater World and SkyPoint Observation Deck until 24 December 2017."

    • +5

There is a cunning clue in the description,,,

"Includes unlimited entry to Dreamworld, WhiteWater World and SkyPoint Observation Deck until 24 Dec 2017"

  • +3

Australia's biggest Lego store is opening at Dreamworld on 29 January. Access is from the front of the park (free) or from inside the park.

  • Still a great park, we haven't held yearly passes for 6 months now, but that's about to change. Thanks OP.

  • Any discount for wet n wild or movie world Gold Coast? we are planning to go on the weekend!

  • -7

    pay to die pfft

  • Boycott greed

  • +10

Our parks were already some of the safest in the world. Due to the latest incident you can bet your bottom dollar now they are undoubtedly the safest.

As the general manager of Village Theme Parks said recently, you are more likely to die on the highway travelling to the theme parks!

  • The Giant Drop & Wipeout are still closed for maintenance -_-

    • Giant Drop is now open.

      • +1

cool. looks like ill buy a season pass later this week :D

  • Being an ignorant Melbournian, I was shocked to get to Dreamworld and realise it's not the same place as Movie World. Personally I much preferred the latter. Other out of staters, don't be like me, do your research.

    • +1

Movie world rides aren't as good, but they have other entertainment if you have kids or are easily entertained yourself.

  • -2

Movie World have had Superman and Batman superhero rides for years, but I heard Dreamworld had to close their Deadpool ride.

  • +5

Was there a week ago. Was great - no queues and whilst I was there only a few rides were closed - Wipeout, Giant Drop, Shockwave, Vintage Cars (one of the originals) and Gingy's (kids ride).

Fire machine laser and fireworks show was great too as was the extended hours for the first two weeks of Jan. Felt a bit sad for staff - lots of shows, dancers, singers etc through the day for only a handful of people watching.

In comparison the crowds at Movieworld were insane. We were there the day Arkham Asylum broke down (missed it by about 15 mins from being stuck) and then a few days later Wild West Falls got stuck too. Scooby is currently a construction site but is still operating with over an hour queues. Doomsday (new ride) is closed for maintenance for an extended period. Basically movieworld is a day of queues and issues compared to Dreamworld at the moment.

Biggest issue for Dreamworld is it looks like the tour groups for the most part have disappeared and the larger asian and arabic family groups which we still saw at Movieworld and Sea World (and of course Pacific Country).

    • Omg I wouldn't go to Movieworld if it was free. Too busy. will probably buy Movieworld.

      • +1

        That makes no sense.

        • Won't go for free but will pay?

        • @ilikeit:

          A marketeer's dream!

        • @gooddealmate:

lol oh pls..obviously I wouldn't pay either. It means I won't go when it's that busy and hot.

Yes I would rather pay for a quiet day than be offered a free ticket for a hot and busy day. But I'm not a big fan of Movieworld. We only buy the pass for Wet n Wild.

  • Should be free

  • -3

Wouldn't go if you paid me. Profits before safety

  • -2

Not worth for risking my life!

  • I just came here to neg the people who reference dreamworld's recent fatalities

  • -2

You will lose your head over how great this place is

  • Am I right thinking that the 29th is the final day of the sale?

    • Correct

  • +3

Bought season pass and went today. Will go again on Friday. Have younger kids so we only go on about 6 of the rides. Dreamworld, late lunch, white water world to cool off.

Considering we were about to pay $200 for a 1 day family pass this is a great deal.

Only problem was going to the "pass centre" the computers were down so we couldn't transfer from our e-passes to proper ones today.

    • How where the queues at White Water World? Was it busy?

      • +1

Didn't seem long. But hard for me to tell. My eldest is about 110cm and didn't want to go on temple of Huey. So we were just playing on slides in water park, wave pool and little kids area. Not crowded.

  • Did anyone buy two tickets they don't need? Just missed out :( please pm
