I'd recommend combing this deal with watching Lion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_(2016_film) - Saw it last night thanks to tanishilki's post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284720 and thought it was excellent.

    • Saw it also.. good movie.

Wow, pay $30 to have the opportunity to pay for overpriced food and have the movie interrupted by people bringing food and taking orders.

  • How does Lux compare to Gold Class?

    • +5

Some LUX cinemas are by themselves, some are split with standard cinemas
Gold Class gets electric recliners, most LUX cinemas don't
LUX gets popcorn and soft drink (unlimited but you have to refill it yourself), Gold Class doesn't
LUX is normally partnered with larger screens, Gold Class not

So you have to leave the movie for a refill?

        • For the one in Chatswood, yes, you have to leave the movie.
Also the seats and the theatre itself was really underwhelming for Lux…there wasn't anything Lux about it (in Chatswood (4yrs ago))

I prefer Gold Class to Lux in the quality of seats and quality of the food.

LUX in Chatswood you push the button and they come refill your popcorn and drinks, no need to move.

        • Chatswood is a pretty good cinema all round. Comfy electric recliners standard is there really much point to bother with LUX..

          @Xizor:

Yeah but they never have Cheese Nachos even though they keep advertising it!

        • Wait there's refill on popcorn? The cinema attendant did not mention that to us last time we went.

      • FYI Wetherill Park Lux doesn't have free popcorn and softdrink

I have $15 tix with recliners. (Hoyts) Don't need to stuff my face during a movie so I'm cheap :)

Yeah went to rogue one yesterday and our 6yo played with the electric recliner buttons the whole movie, he loved it.

      • +1

I gave you +1 for spelling Rogue correctly

        Also, 12/10 movie

      • +1

I'm sure all the other movie goers loved it too.

        • +1

Luckily there was hardly anyone there, so I just let him go for it, under the (false as it turns out) hope that he would get bored of playing with the seat and start watching the film. but no. I could see him from the corner of my eye, looking at me as he moved forward/back/forwards…

    • Are these just regular seats?

  • +3

the new cinemas at Chadstone are freaking awesome. Don't even need to buy GC or Lux anymore

    • If you don't live too far, the Hoyts at Eastland is even better as it has full flat recliners, whereas Chadstone ones are not flat. Eastland seats are also wider, and the distance between your seats to the partition of the seats in front are greater. Basically you'll get more room, and for some reason, the tickets there are slightly cheaper than Chadstone too! Location of Eastland might not be the best for everyone though.

Lux tickets are only $26 each through Optus Perks everyday.

  • For the life of me, I cannot understand why online booking fees for Lux & Gold Class are more expensive than the booking fees for regular tickets. It's the same website and same booking engine, so why differ?

    • You've volunteered to pay more for a premium experience. Therefore they can extract more cash from you. Would be more honest to just put the booking fee in with the ticket price (Say $2 per ticket so it averages out)…but better for advertising to tell you the tickets are cheaper then slug you with a "booking fee" after you've already decided to buy based on the lowerprice. Gotta love capitalism.

True. I guess it's the same principle that gets applied at other major ticketing companies. I'm looking at you, ticketek and your variable booking fees.

  • Is this deal still valid? Can't see it anywhere on the Hoyts website.
