Half Price Ramen (from $5.50) @ Hakata Gensuke Tori (Chicken) Ramen Professional QV (Melb) on Australia Day

910

Saw this on their facebook page. Perhaps OzBargainers in Melbourne can comment on the quality. Doesn't look too bad on Zomato, worth trying at half price :)

  • That's probably the price it's actually worth.

The ramen does start at $11 (basic ramen), but once you add all the extras, it ends up costing closer to the $20 mark.

hmmm or..or relocate to japan and eat all the ramen!!! ٩(◕‿◕)۶

This place only does chicken based menu. For traditional pork belly toppings & broth go elsewhere.

  • +2

Note the deal appears to be valid at Hakata Gensuke QV, which makes chicken broth ramen.

The tonkotsu ramen and tsukemen are available at the Russel st location.

    • +2

Thank you for pointing that out, I've updated the description so that it's specifically for the QV branch.

    • Do they serve tsukemen again? Last time I tried, it looked like they removed it from the menu

    • Agree with jeppikah, no longer doing Tsukemen as of at least Nov last year.

        • way too formal, it comes off as offensive…
Domo Arigato or Arigato Gozaimasu will suffice :)

    • What should be eaten on Australia Day?

      • Sausages!

        • Lamb Chops is the way to go!

        • +1

          What about sausages in ramen?

      • +1

Ramen in Vegemite broth + Wheetbix dunk in green tea. Make sure to arrive in a Holden Apollo.

    Yay!!!

    Signature Chicken
    Extra noodle (hard)
[NOTE: base noodles served with chicken slices, bamboo shoots and scallions]

  • Is this place run by Japanese or Chinese dishing up Japanese foods?

    • +1

Global franchise based out of Japan - one of the three big players in the global ramen market.

    • +2

I always want to know this as well, those fakes should be boycotted imo. They take the locals for fools

      • +1

We believe the same. There was a "japanese" place we went to that spoke full chinese, and we were writing about it XD PR said that the wife in couple that owned the place was japanese though due to a shortage of them they hire chinese.

TLDR Summary - When to a japanese place that greeted us in chinese.

It's a Japanese chain (www.ikkousha.com) run by award winning ramen cook Kousuke Yoshimura who came out to set up the Russel st shop. Most of the staff are Japanese. I came to the opening of the Russell street store and saw the two investors hanging around. One was the head chef/owner of Shoya in the city, the other was a tall Japanese dude in a black and gold adidas three star tracksuit with a shaved head.. looked pretty gangster haha. I'm fairly sure at least one of the floor staff in the QV store isn't japanese though.

These guys are generally acknowledged as up amongst the best in Mwlbourne. Once you add in the extras they're expensive and some people will whinge about the amounts of meat - but they're worth it in my taste

    • +3

I used to whine about the amount of meat but that's exactly how they serve it in Japan. You eat ramen for the ramen. The meat is almost like a side dish.

  • +3

By far the best ramen I've had in Melbourne that comes close to the ones that I have eaten in Japan.

  • +2

If only they had decided to introduce lamb ramen on Australia Day

  • +2

Considering how long the line is every other day…

    • +1

In my experience only the Russell street branch consistently has long lines. The QV one never had any lines the 2 times I've been there.

  • +1

their ramen is quite good imo. i've tried many ramen shops in Melbourne. This is one of the best in Melbourne I've eaten.

  • Great ramen, line is legit. Pretty pricey but worth it. Too bad I only eat ramen and other hot soups in winter :)

Real ramen place in Melbourne that I know is Shyun Ramen in Carnegie. The rest are made by wannabe Japanese.

    • Never been to shyun.. I'll have to check it out.

Gensuke in Russel st is teh real deal. Tonkotsu broth is very good, and they serve the white, thin, firm noodles which is what I like.. their chashu is not the best though.

For something different I quite like the "black ramen" at shujinko. Its not black like the black ramen at gensuke, but it's made from shellfish and tonkotsu broth, and I think they get the chashu right in my opinion.

      • It's been changed to Chinese owners. Tasted terrible.

  • Yep it's worth it.

  • Lines currently 45mins long.
