    • Yes they are. I obviously missed it but it is also expiring today.

      • Coles one comes with 3GB data, this one doesnt seem to (although perhaps it does? Since the coles and telstra versions do).

Telstra sells it with 3GB data for $79 (with a 'car cradle'). Just for comparison; the JB Hi Fi deal is a good deal

        • Goodguys one came with 2GB data.

  • These can be unlocked can't they?

  • is the 910 or 910v better? the 910 has a colour LCD but this one doesnt.

According to the spec MF910 seems to have more bands supported

MF910 according to ZTE website: http://www.zte.com.au/telstra/MF910.htm
      LTE 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot
      LTE 700, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz
      UMTS 850, 900, 2100 MHz

Personally I don't really care about the LCD screen as I won't need to look at it majority of the time, just another fancy feature to drain the battery.

      • Is more bands necessarily better (or, I guess, worth paying for)? If you compare this with the most expensive one offered by Telstra (Wi Fi Pro), this one supports the same bands as the wi fi pro.

I dont know the answer - serious question

        • +1

Guess it really depends on whom your carrier is and more bands are always a bonus in the cases you need to travel to other countries.

        • Yes, more bands are better.

I was struggling to get ANY reception in Tasmania on an older WiFi hotspot. Constantly came up with no reception or 2g, but my phone (which supported more bands) worked perfectly fine with 3g on the same sim card.

The 910 has a full LCD display with indicators to show the status and the SSID etc. The 910v is the cheaper variant without the LCD display but has status LED lights instead to indicate if it is connected or not. The 910v supports more bands though despite being the cheaper but later model. The LCD doesnt really drain the battery too much since it only comes on when you click the on button to view.

      • +1

You sure 910v supports more bands? It says different on ZTE website though.

        • +1

You are right. Sorry about that - I mixed the two around. the 910 has more bands than the 910v.

Is not Optus's one (920v I think) from Target for $19 a better one? Has band 28.
Stock was limited last time I checked though

    • +1

I would like to know how MF910V (Telstra) compare to MF920V (Optus)

      • Couldn't find much about 920v other than it connects up to 32 devices. I certainly won't share with that many people.

        • +2

Some info that I found on the User Manual of the Optus MF920v.
          Network compatibility:
          4G LTE: 700, 1800, 2300, 2600 MHz
          3G UMTS: 900, 2100 MHz
          GSM: 900, 1800 MHz

    • $17.50 on sale - https://www.target.com.au/p/optus-zte-4g-wi-fi-modem-mf92-v/… - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/286686
Good luck getting stock. I emailed Target, they said that Optus had not delivered their stock to Target as yet.
Going to try and get a raincheck….

      • +1

Why don't you try the "Find in store" function on Target website. It helped me to get one just now.

        • I did that. No stock available anywhere near postcode 4670. Can't even get stock transferred from one store to another. Not even the 5 stores closest to Brisbane…

        • +1

@rye: ah, that's no fun. I managed to pick up the last one in the store 20 mins away from where I live. Hope it will be worth it.

        • @johnnyle: Lucky! Haha. Sigh

        • @rye: try your luck at Officeworks. I managed to pricematch to $16.63 as well

      • can that be unlocked?

        • The MF920v is unlocked. Using it with telstra at the moment

        • @leminhnguyen0703: thanks, so although it says Optus on it, can use any sim card?

    • One left 920v at Target Perth central.

I was going to grab it but couldn't work out if it would work with my vodafone sim due to technical illiteracy

      • +1

I got a few Optus 3g-4g modem, and all of them are unlocked. All of them work just fine in and outside the country. So I believe this one should be unlocked as well.

        • Thanks for the input.

I decided to not make a purchase decision until its definitive.

No point buying a 4g modem twice.

My 3g works fine and being a net trawler rather than a downloader its likely all I need.

I couldn't find out much in my attempt to research the 920v version and spotted no mention of vodafone so I'll wait for
someone more well heeled to do the hard yards ;-)

        • @Rifraf: the MF920v is unlocked. I purchased it the other day and I'm using it with Telstra with no problem. Also Target were all out of stock but managed to price match at Officeworks Alexandria for $16.63

  • can other bands be unlocked on this. I tried searching but could nto find the information

    • +2

Only found a software called MDMA tool can possibly do something like that. Not sure if this mode is supported as it hasn't been updated for ages. You will need to research on the command as well.

Does anyone know if I can put my telstra sim card into this and use my data? I'm asking because even though I can tether my iPhone as wifi hotspot, there's limitations with connecting to PPTP VPN connections now that I am on iOS 10.

    Thanks

    • +1

      I'm sure you can.

    • Can you link me regarding this limitation? Have some clients that use pptp VPN but don't think they have upgraded their iPad to iOS 10 yet

  • Woolies was 25 dollars. I have one of this, battery not as good…..

    • +1

How many hours do you get out of the device?

      • 8 hours approx

  • +2

Thanks OPs. priced matched at GoodGuys for $29 and used $20 in-store voucher from earlier GG deal :)

  • How easy is it to unlock?

  • +1

Do you think it will still be this price tomorrow or will it go back up cause the coles sale has ended?

I'm intending to get one to put my data share sim in.

    • JB accept free returns, why not place your order today online and decide tomorrow?

  • Can anyone find a good price on the MF910?

  • if using vodafone which will give better coverage and data speeds, MF910V or MF920V?

    • Base on the manual of MG920v and the op:
-MF920V covers more bands than MF910V
_MF910V has better battery life (7 hours compare to 4 on MF920V)

  • Couple of interesting things I've learned playing with this device today:

    1. You can use it USB tethered for internet access, no wifi (only tested on a Win10 machine). I'm guessing it's only a USB 2 interface though, hence potentially running slower than the 4G connection.

    2. You can use additional MF910 units, without SIMs, as range extenders connected back to one with a SIM in it.

    • +1

yea, those are the basic function of these devices I think. I have 3 of them and all of them have.

    • Can you demonstrate how to use additional units as range extender ? Also, any chance it would also work for MF920v ?

      • When you are out, it will use the data, but when u are at home or whatever wifi network you setup it to, it will automatically switch to that when in range. You can do that in the setting. if need more help you can just pm me.

  • Anyone know if this will be compatiable or will able to use with a Asus RT-AC87U as a dual WAN/fail over connection?

  • Just unlocked mine. However, it wasn't a straight forward job of putting in another SIM and get internet. It was programmed to have Telstra as the default APN even if the SIM isn't telstra. Had to find out the APN setting for TPG (Vodafone), logged into the modem settings page, create a new APN profile, assigned that profile as default before reconnection to make internet work!!!

Wouldn't be easy for those not aware of how to do this.

  • Can anyone confirm that this comes with data? Thanks.
