Wow at this rate I'm gonna have to write up a forum post to ask what everyone is using these for.

Soon we will see "DEWALT Adapter DCR002" everywhere lol

    • +1

I got one, and after connecting it via a 3.5mm to RCA adaptor to the line in on my Sonos system, I now have a Sonos with a Bluetooth input connection. Very useful for cricket/AFL broadcasts that block tunein radio stations and force you to use their phone app.
Only issue is despite having it constantly plugged into a usb charger, it turns itself off, so you have to press the button to switch it on before you bluetooth connect to it.

      • The unit turns itself off after an idle period, right (even if plugged in)?

If so, how long is the idle time? 15 mins?

  • how does this compare to roidmi?

  • So this is like a cheap Chromecast audio?

    • +1

It's a bluetooth audio receiver. Think a pair of bluetooth headphones without the headphones.

      • and works the opposite way.

        • So we can use this as a transmitter for Bluetooth headphones too?

        • No, it's a receiver, not a transmitter. If you plug the output from this into a set of headphones then you have BT heaphones.

    • yes but you don't use wifi

    • +1

yes, except not even close to the same thing.

      • I know there are technical differences, but if I understand correctly, they both provide essentially the same functionally, i.e. allow a device to send audio to an output that doesn't already have built-in streaming capability?

        • bluetooth streams the sound from your device.
chromecast, over wifi, lets you tell a service to stream directly to a chromecast device.

So if you are using spotify over bluetooth and you take a call/walk away/lose signal/play a quick game of angry birds/whatever, the audio stops.
Bluetooth also sounds garbage and you lose the multizone capabilities of the CA

        • @jjcf:

Ah gotcha. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

  • +3

I like how they think the original price was ever $150, what a joke!

  • +1

    Bought one last time.

    Pros:
    - Pretty easy to use, just like every other BT audio receiver from China
    - Charges from microUSB
    - Battery lasts a while

    Cons:
    - Audio cable is not detachable, so don't break it
    - It's really difficult to get out of the little tray/holder thing, just get rid of that.

    • You are supposed to press the small release tab to remove the main unit from the holder.

      • Yes, but it's very difficult to hold the tray and press the tab and push the device out from the holder.

This one is not a bad alternative. There will be no issues with the cable breaking, as it is replaceable and comes with a solid metal audio jack and flexible one.

  • Could you use this on an aeroplane?

    • Phone is fine… oops

    • Not on a plane! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! n1ck! Let me be!

ELI5: This lets you stream music from your mobile phone/tablet/MP3 player with bluetooth, over bluetooth, to any non-bluetooth speaker/radio/headunit which has an AUX Input jack and a USB power source.

    • ELI5?

It needs to be plugged into a USB power source too?

      • It has a small battery but I'm not sure how long it lasts

        • -6

Your post was a bit misleading.

I'm guessing ELI5 is some reddit garbage?

        • +4

@joeflacco: I was just trying to make a simple description for anyone who doesn't get what it does without having to watch a 6 minute video.

        • -4

@The Land of Smeg: "which has an AUX input jack AND a USB power source" implies that your speaker/radio/headunit requires a USB power source, which it doesn't.

          I appreciate your effort, though.

        • +3

          @joeflacco: get a life

        • -3

@The Land of Smeg: Why are you so touchy?

You made a mistake, Mr. Redditism.

        • @joeflacco:

          Why are you so touchy?

I know you weren't trying to offend, but it was probably your choice of wording which might have created the illusion of passive-aggression, and your persistence may have been misinterpreted as childish attempts to reaffirm internet ego superiority.

        • -2

@Myrtacaea: I wasn't aggressive at all until he came at me with his schoolyard insult.
He's wrong and his comment is misleading (still).

Promoting his wrongful information and downvoting my inquiries and corrections is just plain stupid.

You morons can go sleep in the bed you made.

  • Im getting this error while trying to apply the code does anyone what it is? (We removed any vouchers you already applied. You can try using them on a future purchase.)

  • +2

For the potential buyers, know this:

    • This is a Bluetooth receiver (so to speak), it receives audio signal wirelessly and then play it through the wire on AV equipments, such as a portable player.

    • It does not broadcast Bluetooth, so you can't plug it into a TV and listen through your Bluetooth headphone.

    • It does not have a mic, and therefore no handsfree/headset profile, so you can't use it to play mobile voice through your car speakers.

It's a simple device, but the good thing about it is the rechargeable battery, so you can use it without a power source.

  • Can I plug the aux INTO the unit instead of having to plug the aux into the speakers FROM the device? I'm not 100% sure that I can detach the cable from my work speakers, typically I'd just plug that cable into my phone…

    • Music player >>> (transmits via Bluetooth) >>> Dewalt Adapter >>> (transmits via AUX cable) >>> Speakers

      Ok, my friend?

    • +1

May be you can try using a female to female 3.5mm stereo adapter, not sure if it will work though.

      https://www.jaycar.com.au/3-5mm-stereo-socket-to-3-5mm-stere…

      • ahh this is what I was worried about. Annoying…

  • For the sake of a few dollars (I know, not very ozbargain), is it better/worse/same as a Chrome Audio?

    • The Chromecast Audio streams music thru WeeFee so it's a different device all together.

      • I know. But for me, I'm looking at using it the same way. Plugging it into my old stereo, and streaming from my phone music. Wondering if I could save money and have better/worse quality.

        • Technically it isn't the same way.

-Streaming via Bluetooth means the source (music) is streamed directly from your device to the bluetooth receiver (e.g. Dewalt)

-Streaming via WiFi means the source is streamed via local ethernet. Your device just acts as a controller. The strength of the connection isn't dependent on the range between your device and the receiver (e.g. Chromecast).

  • +3

Off topic, but does anybody know if they make a device that is the precise opposite of this?

I.e. plug into the headphone jack of a TV or Hifi, and transmits audio signal via BT to a pair of BT headphones?

    • Yeah - Bluetooth transmitter.

      • +1

Can you recommend a good, cheap one?

        • +1

Unfortunately, never needed to buy one myself, but something like this seems ideal, given that it supports both transmitting and receiving.

  • +1

Would love a device which is similar to this but transmitted to a hi-fi unit over FM rather than requiring the aux input.

    • +4

You should check out the 90s, when FM transmitters were still a thing.

    • +1

I remember having one and the sound was pretty awful

    • There are plenty of FM transmitters in the Chinese sites for less than $10. Normally promoted as a phone handsfree. I have a few, including one plugged into the headphone socket of my TV. When the family is making noise and I want to listen to the news, a small Sanyo receiver and headphones gives me a 30 metre range. Has a battery but have it plugged into a USB charger.

I also have this DeWalt Bluetooth receiver. It works well but the output is quite low level. I have it plugged into an aux input in an amp I have in the garage, and have to crank up the volume when running it.

When I switch over to the receiver in the amp, the volume difference is large. BTW the receiver picks up the TV transmitter easily and at the same level as the local stations..

      • Thanks for that. Yes will have to check out the Chinese sites. For $10 or so it's worth trying out. One of my hi-fi units does have RCA inputs actually but I expect volume issues without a preamplier. Also, I like the idea of listening to the news audio only sometimes. Good ideas :-)

        • If it's line level inputs, why would you have an issue? It's going to put out normal voltage levels for line in. If it's got an integrated radio, it's going to be an integrated amp, so there is no need for a preamp at all.

The only way this even makes sense is if it only has phono inputs, I guess.

        • @jjcf: Hmmm I think you are right. I was thinking of phono inputs but this is unlikely given it says AUX on the hi-fi. Thanks for that. Bought a Dewalt adapter for the hi-fi that has the aux input. May even have a stereo to 2x RCA adapter lying around… :-)

  • +1

The Bluetooth adapter which is the subject of this entry has low-level output… much lower than anything else I plug into the amp. I tried running it through the phono pre-amp but it's level was way to high for that…. much distortion.

The quality of the DeWalt Bluetooth adapter is fine - just be prepared to jump for the volume control when you switch to any other input. If that is the only thing you use the amplifier for, it will work well.

The FM transmitters I use have a much better range and are more forgiving… the downside is they need to be plugged into the source (eg phone), which can be a pain…. but Bluetooth has its own quirks too.

It's what ever suits your needs… and the FM transmitters are closer to what I need - they might not suit everyone.

    • Did you have the volume turned up on the transmitting device? I didn't find it to be unusually low.

      • I did have the source at full volume.

If you need a Bluetooth receiver, it's not a deal breaker.

  • no mic on the device to make a phone call.

    • -1

This is the third time this deal has been posted on Ozb so I think everyone has figured that out.

But brilliant findings as always, Sherlock.

  • Can you use this as blue tooth output transmitter from hifi?

    • No. It's a receiver only. See above discussion for options regarding transmitters.

      • Then the Logitech ones are better

        • Which Logitech model works as a transmitter?

        • @zzyss:

I'm talking about receiver Logitech one is better than this hence I don't need one I got 3 x already
