Store Delivered Furniture Damaged My Wooden Flooring

I bought bedroom furniture worth $2400 from a furniture showroom chain.
Paying $2400 which I believe is a huge amount, I expected it to be of good quality.
One of the side tables and the desser has the bottom floor protector missing for one of the legs. It is manageable with the side table. But the dresser also has a missing floor protector and has a nail exposed. The nail damaged my wooden flooring making a scratch when unpacking.

When I complained to the showroom they are saying they will send additional protectors in post but cannot repair my damaged flooring. Its not their responsiblity.

I need your suggestion if I go to department of fair trading, if it would be helpful to my case. I am in the view that it is the showroom's responsibility to fix the damage as I unpacked the furniture in the view that the furniture I bought would be of acceptable quality and safe to use.

Thanks.

  • Who actually did the damage? You or the guys who delivered it?

    • I damaged it while unpacking….

In which case unfortunately you dont have a leg to stand on, no pun intended.

  • I damaged it while unpacking….

    • were the any visible packaging damage when the items were delivered? if yes, did you make a note of that and get the delivery drivers to verify the damage?

were the delivery drivers there then you unpacked the items?

      • there is no visible packing damage. The furniture has missing floor protectors for one of the legs in dresser and side table. The dresser is the one that damaged my flooring. As it is heavy and I cannot lift it alone. I pulled it a little out of the packaging and it scratched the flooring.

Yeah nah, considering the flooring is brand new, personally I would've been scrutinising the feet more than you obviously did.

Company isn't at fault for your floors

  • can we assume that this was pre assembled furniture and not flat packs? did you unpack the dresser by yourself or was it a two person job?

    • Yes the dresser and side table both were pre assembled…

    seriously OP?!?!?

is your next post going to be - "I bought a new car and then crashed when reversing from the show room as the dealer didn't adjust the mirrors?"

    • Haha! Yes OP. does not want to accept responsbility for his/her actions.

Buy walnuts and rub into scratched area on floor. May hide the scratches a bit but deep down you may know its not ever the same floor as before.

  • Sorry for your loss but this is where you need to have accidental content insurance. Do you have it?
