Schwarzbier, or black beer, is a dark lager made in Germany. They tend to have an opaque, black colour with hints of chocolate or coffee flavours, and are generally around 5% abv.They are similar to stout in that they are made from roasted malt, which gives them their dark colour
This beer tastes quite bitter to be honest, i've bought a carton ages ago and still got some left but not gonna buy again, may suit some people's taste, just not for me.
Pours an opaque black with a 1/2 inch foamy dark khaki head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark malt and some dark fruits (especially grapes). Taste is of dark malt, grape-like fruits, and some mild roast flavors. A fleeting shot of bitterness after each sip. This beer has a medium body with a lower level of carbonation. Overall, this is a good schwarzbier that is easy drinking.
Is it short dated? I'd like to buy now but drink it in winter.
Yeah, definitely not the season for dark beer at present, at least not in QLD.
This is actually not a typical Schwarzbier, it's quite sweet but really nice. I wish I was cashed up to take advantage of this.
